Hello, everybody.

It's Mrs. Fransen here.

Welcome to Computing.

It's really good to see you here.

Today we are gonna be learning all about the computer keyboard.

I hope you are as excited as me.

Are you ready? Then let's get started.

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to use a computer to write.

Let's have a look at our keywords for today.

We are gonna do my turn, your turn for this.

That means that I'm going to say the keyword, then I want you to say the keyword, and then I want you to listen really carefully while I explain the definition of that keyword.

Okay, here we go.

First word, my turn.

Keyboard, your turn.

That's great.

A keyboard is a device used to send information into a computer.

Next word, my turn.

Typing, your turn.

That's great.

Typing is writing with a computer.

Next word, my turn.

Word processor.

Your turn.

Well done.

A word processor is what we use to write documents and stories on a computer.

Next word, my turn, text.

Your turn.

That's it.

Text is words or numbers written or printed to share information or tell a story.

The first part of this lesson is all about using a computer keyboard.

Let's go.

This is a computer keyboard.

I wonder if you've ever seen something like this before.

It might be a different colour from this.

It might be a different size from this.

It might even have different kinds of buttons on it.

What do you think this is used for? You can pause the video here to think about your answer.

Keyboards are used to type letters and numbers.

What does the keyboard help us to do? Is it A, draw pictures, B, type letters and numbers, or C, print paper? Pause the video here and you can think about which one the answer would be.

Welcome back.

What does the keyboard help us to do? The answer was, B, type letters and numbers.

Well done if you got that one right.

Have a close look at the keyboard.

What do you see? The buttons on a keyboard are called keys.

Keyboards have got letters.

They are all capital letters.

I wonder if you notice that.

keyboards have got numbers and symbols.

Well done if you spotted numbers or symbols.

What does a keyboard not have on it? Is it A, symbols, B, numbers, or C, pictures? Pause the video here to think about your answer.

Good job thinking about that question.

What does a keyboard not have on it? The answer is C.

A keyboard does not have pictures.

Well done if you got that one right.

The keys are not in alphabetical order.

They have a special order.

So if you look at my keys, they are not in alphabetical order on the keyboard.

They're all jumbled up into a specific special order.

True or false? Keyboards only have letter keys.

You can pause the video here and think about if the answer is true or false.

Oh, the answer was false.

Why? Keyboards have got letters, numbers, and symbols.

Well done if you got that answer correct.

We are on the first task of this lesson.

I would like you to find and colour the letters of your name.

So on the worksheet, there will be a version of the keyboard nice and big, and printed, and I want you to find and colour the letters of your name.

You can pause the video while you're working on that task, and when you come back I will show you an example.

Welcome back.

Let's have a look at the answer for that task.

We are looking at Jacob's name here.

So you can see Jacob's name under his picture.

It starts with a capital J, and then it is A-C-O-B.

But as we saw earlier, all of the letters on the keyboard are capital letters, so that can make it a bit trickier to find the letters that you need.

So you're gonna go carefully and check to find the letters that you need, but in capital.

So Jacob's first letter is here, and we shaded it in, and then we are looking for A, I wonder if you can see it.

It's on the same line as the J.

There it is.

Next we're going for C, curly curl.

It's on the bottom row.

And then the O up on the top row, and finally his last letter is the B.

So it's also on the bottom row near the curly curl.

That's all the letters of Jacob's name.

I hope that you were able to also find your name and maybe you shaded it in in the same colour as we did for Jacob, or it might be different.

That's okay too.

In the next part of the lesson, we are going to explore a word processor.

What can you use to create writing? So we have some examples here, some suggestions of what you could use to create writing.

We could use paper, a pen, a pencil, or some chalk.

And I can even hear some people saying that we could do crayon or any other kind of marker.

That's definitely correct too.

We can write with all of those things as well.

What is this? Have you used anything like this before? A word processor is a tool for writing.

Word processes are used to create text.

You can see in the image that this word processor document is called My Book Review.

So I could write a book review in this document.

A word processor is used for, A, talking, B, painting, or C, writing? You can pause the video now to think about what your answer would be.

Well done for thinking about that question.

A word processor is used for, C, writing.

Well done if you got that one correct.

Text is words or numbers that are written or printed to share information or tell a story.

You can see in the image now that my book review has been written, I have written my text all about the enormous crocodile story.

I've written a book review in my word processor.

True or false? Text is really long words that you use in a story.

True or false? You can pause the video here to think about what the correct answer would be.

Welcome back, well done for thinking about that question.

True or false? Text is really long words that you use in a story.

The answer was false.

Why? Text is words written or printed to share information or tell a story.

Well done if you got that one right.

We are back at the keyboard now.

The Enter key creates a new line.

You can see the Enter key to the right of the keyboard there.

We are going to do another task now.

This task is exciting, because we are going to get to right using a computer keyboard.

So for the first part of the task, I would like you to press the keys on the keyboard to write the letters A, B, C, D, E, and F.

Then I want you to write your name.

Then I want you to write a friend's name.

After typing each line, you can press the Enter key to go down to the next line.

Once your typing is all done, the next part of the task is I want you to talk about your writing with a partner.

You can go and pause the video now to work on your task and I'll be here when you get back.

Welcome back.

We are going to look at using the word processor to write in this task.

First thing I'm gonna do is type the alphabet letters.

So I'm typing my A, and as I type you can see that the cursor, the blinking line moves along, as I type a new letter in, the cursor moves along.

So let's find the rest of these letters, D, E, F.

Now at the end of the line, I'm gonna press the Enter key to move down to the next line.

There we go.

And now I'm typing in my name.

So I'm gonna type in Jacob's name, J-A-C-O-B.

What comes after that? At the end, I'm going to use the enter key, that's right, to go down to the next line and type in my friend's name.

So I'm gonna type in Aisha, and then finish the task by pressing Enter to go down to the next line one more time.

Well done for your hard work in that task.

In the second part of the task, we have to talk about your writing with a partner, and I heard lots of people discussing what they did.

Sophia said, "When I press a key, it shows up on the screen." Thank you, Sophia.

And Andeep said, "I added some text to the word processor by pressing the keys on the keyboard." So Andeep used a lot of our keywords there.

Well done for your discussions in this part of the task.

You worked really hard today.

Let's go through a summary of what we've learned.

Keyboards are used to write letters and numbers.

The buttons on the keyboard are called keys.

A word processor is a tool for writing and adding text.

Text is words written or printed to share information or tell a story.

You've worked really hard in your lesson today.

Thank you for joining me for your learning, and I hope to see you again soon.
