Hello everyone.

My name is Mrs. Steele and I'm so excited that we're going to be learning together today in this music lesson.

Today's lesson is all about playing four note tonesets on pitched percussion, and I can't wait, so let's get started together.

By the end of today's lesson, you will be able to read and play do, mi, so, and la, and you'll be able to explore different ways to play these notes.

Let's have a look at the keywords that will be important in our learning today.

Pitch, how high or low a note is.

Note, a single sound in music.

Stave, lines on which notes can be placed.

Pitched percussion, an instrument that can make musical notes when we strike it.

And melody, a collection of notes to make a memorable tune.

It's important to warm up our voices and bodies before every music lesson so that we're ready to move and ready to sing.

Just like we stretch our muscles before we exercise, we need to stretch our vocal cords too before we sing.

Follow these warmups so that you are ready for singing.

Here comes the video.

It's C, do, mi, so, and then la.

♪ Ready, steady, off we go ♪ ♪ Apple tree, apple tree ♪ ♪ Will your apples fall on me ♪ ♪ I won't cry and I won't shout ♪ ♪ If your apples knock me out ♪ Well done.

Let's try singing it again, this time using the Solfege syllables.

♪ Ready, steady, off we go ♪ ♪ So, so, mi, so, so, mi ♪ ♪ So, so, la, la, so, so, mi ♪ ♪ So, so, mi, mi, so, so, mi ♪ ♪ So, so, la, la, so, so, do ♪ Now it's time to take our learning even further and play do, mi, so, and la on pitched percussion.

We can find our four notes on a pitched percussion instrument.

We might have a xylophone or a glockenspiel.

Pitched percussion instruments use bars of different lengths to create higher and lower pitches.

Bars with a longer length have a lower pitch and bars with a shorter length have a higher pitch.

Each bar on a pitched percussion instrument is labelled with a letter.

For this lesson, we are going to use the following bars on our pitched percussion instruments.

Here they are.

We're going to use C, or do; E, mi; G, which is so; and A, which is la.

Here we can see how the pitch of the bars gets higher as the bars get shorter in length.

Now it's time to find do, mi, so, and la on your pitched percussion instrument.

Pause now to complete that musical challenge where you are.

We can use our song, "Rocky Mountain," to practise do, mi, so, and la.

Here's the music again.

Have a listen.

♪ Ready, steady, off we go ♪ ♪ Rocky mountain, rocky mountain ♪ ♪ Rocky mountain high ♪ ♪ When you're on that rocky mountain ♪ ♪ Hang your head and cry ♪ (soft xylophone music) ♪ Do remember me ♪ (soft xylophone music) ♪ Do remember me ♪ <v ->It's time for a check-in with our learning.

</v> We can play our four notes in different ways to create new melodies.

Can you play, do, mi, so, an la from highest to lowest pitch? Pause now to give that a try.

Now let's practise playing those four notes in different patterns.

Listen to each pattern carefully, then press pause and play it on your instrument.

Here comes the first one.

(soft xylophone music) (soft xylophone music) Now here's pattern number two.

(soft xylophone music) (soft xylophone music) Listen carefully to pattern number three.

(soft xylophone music) (soft xylophone music) And finally, can you listen to and play pattern number four? (soft xylophone music) (soft xylophone music) Fantastic work.

Well done, musicians.

And now for our next challenge.

Can you create your own four note pattern using do, mi, so, and la? Practise your pattern on your pitched percussion instrument, then play it to a partner.

Listen to your partner's pattern and try to play it on your instrument.

Pause now to play your pitched percussion and create new melodies.

Have a great time! How did you know that you were successful in your last musical challenge? Were you able to find do, mi, so, and la on your pitched percussion instrument? Well done if you did.

And were you able to play your pattern confidently to your partner? And could you copy back your partner's pattern accurately? Fantastic work, musicians.

Well done.

As we come to the end of our lesson today, let's take a moment to reflect on everything that we've been learning.

We know that the melodies that we sing are made of high and low pitched notes.

We can use a musical stave to read songs containing do, mi, so, and la.

We can find do, mi, so, and la on a pitched percussion instrument too.

And we can use pitched percussion to play simple melodies and patterns.

What amazing musical learning today, everyone.

I had a great time.

I can't wait till the next one.

See you soon.

Bye!.
