Hello everybody, welcome to Computing.

It's Mrs. Franzsen here and it's really good to see you.

Thank you for joining me in my lesson today.

We are going to be learning all about digital writing.

Are you ready? Then let's get started.

By the end of today's lesson, you will be able to make formatting changes and undo mistakes.

Let's go through our keywords for today.

We are going to do my turn and your turn for this.

That means that I'm going to say the keyword first, then I want you to say the keyword, and then I want you to listen carefully to the keyword while I explain the definition.

Okay, so here we go.

First word, my turn.

Appropriate.

Your turn.

Well done, appropriate is a choice that fits the idea.

Next word, my turn.

Undo.

Your turn.

That's great, when you undo, you go back one action.

Next word, my turn.

Redo.

Your turn.

Great, redo goes forward again if you have already used undo.

In the first part of the lesson, we are going to be looking at making appropriate style choices.

Are you ready? Let's go.

You might change the formatting of text for different reasons.

When you change text, you need to make sure the choice is appropriate.

Appropriate formatting choices means making a choice that fits the idea that you have.

And you can see in the screenshot here of the word processor that there are lots of different ways to make formatting choices.

In my sentence, one of the words has been made bold.

The sentence reads, "Sofia runs really fast," and "really" has been made bold.

It is darker and thicker than the other text.

Italic can be used for showing a word is different, like a title of a film or book, or a word in another language.

My sentence reads, "Have you seen 'Frozen'?" And the title "Frozen" is slanted to the side.

It has been made italic.

Underline can also be used for titles or headings.

My sentence reads, "I like reading 'The Enormous Crocodile.

'" And you can see "The Enormous Crocodile" has got that underline along the bottom, so the underline was used here.

You can change the font to make the text easier to read, to give a different look to headings or important parts, or or to match the style of a document.

So in the screenshot here, we're getting a good look at the font menu.

You can see how each font looks different.

Text always needs to be selected before you change the formatting.

This lets the word processor know which text to change.

In the animation, I am highlighting the word Sam by dragging my mouse along it.

Let's do a check here.

True or false? You need to select text before applying underline, or it will not underline anything.

You can pause the video here to think about your answer.

The answer was true.

Why? The formatting will only change if you have first selected the text.

This tells the word processor which text to change.

Well done if you got that one right.

The text colour can be changed.

So we're selecting the text and changing the colour with the change colour option on the toolbar.

Going up to text colour and changing it.

The font size can also be changed, so we need to select it first, then go to the font size, and we can either increase or decrease the font size.

In the animation, I increased the font size, and now I'm decreasing it.

Let's do a check here.

What is this symbol used for? Is it A, to write in capital letters; B, to underline text; or C, to change the font colour? Pause the video here to have a think about this question.

Welcome back, that was a tricky one.

What is this symbol used for? The answer is C, to change the font colour.

Well done if you got that one right.

Alright, for the first part of this task, you should download Task A.

Make appropriate style choices to the poster so that it stands out.

We've got a poster here that's titled "Welcome to our classroom." Underneath the picture it says, "This is a place to learn and play.

Be kind to everyone." So we need to change this classroom poster.

You must use bold, italic, underline, colour, and size.

At the bottom it says you must also choose a new font.

So lots of different style choices to make here.

You can go and work on the first part of the task now.

Off you go and I'll be here when you get back to look at an example.

Welcome back, I hope you enjoyed changing the classroom poster and making some really good appropriate style choices there.

Here is an example of before and after.

So the poster on the right side with the colours on it is the example where I have made changes to our poster.

For the title "Welcome to the classroom" I changed the font, I increased the size of the text, and I changed the colour to purple.

For the second line of text, I used bold on the words "learn" and "play" and I changed the font style as well as the colour of the text.

In the bottom line of text, I changed the colour of the word "kind" and the word "everyone." I also used underline on the word "everyone." And I changed the font of the whole sentence to be a different style as well, so lots of changes.

I'm sure your poster looks quite different to mine.

This was a task where you get to decide if your changes match your idea, so well done for all of your hard work on this part of the task.

Let's look at the second part together.

In part two of this task, I want you to explain to your partner how you have improved your poster.

Use these words to help you.

Appropriate, bold, underline, italic, font, colour, and size.

Off you go to work on the second part of the task and share your learning, and I'll be here when you get back to look at an example.

Welcome back, you worked so hard sharing your learning.

Let's look at some examples here.

Andeep says, "I wanted the important words to stand out, so I used bold on them.

I made the font size larger." Laura says, "I used a different colour and underlined my heading so that it looked appropriate for a title.

I used italic on the other sentences." Well done for your hard work in this task.

In the second part of the lesson, we will be looking at undo and redo.

How can we fix mistakes on a computer? Hmm.

You can pause the video here to think about your answer to that question.

The Backspace key fixes mistakes.

It removes text one letter at a time.

Your Backspace key is in the top right of your keyboard.

Look at the toolbar in more detail.

We will be looking at these two arrows.

In my word processor they are here, but they might be in a different place for you and that is fine too.

This is the Undo button.

Did you hear that word, undo? That is one of our keywords in this lesson.

The Undo button also fixes mistakes.

If you do something wrong, like delete a word or change something on the page, Undo brings it back.

So in my animation here you can see I'm going to press Undo, and it will take away the changes I made, it will go back one step at a time.

Let's do a check here.

True or false? Undo lets you correct mistakes.

Pause the video here to think about your answer.

The answer was true.

Why? The Undo button removes the last action that you did.

Well done if you got that one right.

Let's go back to look at those buttons again.

We are now looking at the one on the right.

This is the Redo button.

If you undo something that you did not mean to, the Redo button will change it back.

And you can see in the animation, I am doing that.

I pressed the Undo button first, but I didn't mean to make that change.

So the Redo will put that word that I deleted back.

Let's do a check here for our learning.

What does the Redo button do? Is it A, changes the font; B, makes the text darker; or C, reverse the last action that Undo did? You can pause the video here to think about your answer.

Welcome back, well done for thinking about that question.

What does the Redo button do? It is C, the Redo button reverses the last action that Undo did.

Okay, for our final task today, I would like you to download Task B.

Your job is to make appropriate style changes to your text.

Use different formatting choices to change the story.

Remember to select the text before you change it.

You can use bold, italic, underline, colour, size, and different fonts.

We've got a story here that we are making style changes to.

I'm going to read it to you now.

"Blue and Red were crayons.

Blue drew bold lines, Red drew italic ones.

They found a big piece of paper.

Blue made a small circle, Red underlined it.

Together, they created a colourful picture, making everything stand out beautifully." Did you notice some formatting words in the story? Maybe those words will give you some ideas as to how you can make some appropriate style changes to the story.

Off you go now, it's time to work on the task, and I'll be here when you get back to go through an example.

Welcome back, I saw people working really hard on their stories.

I saw all sorts of style changes.

Let's have a look at the example one on my screen.

Right away you can see that we have got some colour changes.

So the words "Blue" and "Red" have been changed.

Their text colour now matches the colour that they are, which helps make my story even more exciting.

In the second line, where it says "bold lines," I have used bold on that part.

And then where it says "italic ones," can you see how the letters are leaning to the side? So I have used italic on that part.

For the next line where they find "a big piece of paper," do you notice the style change here? I changed the size of the text, I increased it.

On the next line, I decreased the size of "a small circle" to make it small.

And then for the part that was about underlining, I did my underline on those words.

In the last two lines, I changed the font and I changed the colour of the text to make those words stand out, so I changed the style of "colourful" and "beautifully." I hope you enjoyed working on that task.

Well done for all of your hard work.

You have worked so hard during this lesson and you've learned so much.

Let's go through our learning today.

Text can be changed using bold, italic, and underline tools.

You can also change the font style, colour, and size to make it look different.

When you make changes to your writing, make sure that they are appropriate and match your idea for what you're making.

Undo and Redo can be used to fix mistakes.

Well done for all of your hard work during this lesson.

Thank you for joining me today and I hope to see you again soon.
