Hi, everyone.
My name is Mrs. Jenkins.
I can't wait to learn with you today.
Welcome to today's lesson, which is called Content on the Worldwide Web, and this is from the unit, the internet.
By the end of today's lesson, you'll be able to explain how content is made available on the worldwide web.
Before we begin our lesson, we have two keywords.
Those keywords will appear throughout the lesson, so it's really useful that we look at what they mean first.
The two words are hyperlink and content.
Hyperlink is text or media that when clicked takes you to another webpage or location.
Content is the information, pictures, videos, or text that you find on a website or in a digital space.
Today, in our lesson Content on the Worldwide Web, we are going to have three learning cycles.
Identify the features of a website, identify content that can be shared on the worldwide web, and describe how websites allow you to create content.
We're gonna begin with identify the features of a website.
A website is a collection of web pages that are all connected together.
Websites can be used to share information, sell things or even play games.
All websites are accessed using a web browser.
We're going to look at some of the key features of a website.
They have a logo, which is a symbol or image to represent the brand or purpose of the website.
The title, this is the name of the website.
This is often visible either in the address bar, browser tab, or in a bar across the top of the website.
Hyperlinks, there's one of our keywords appearing, words, buttons, or media that can be clicked to direct you to another part of the website.
Text images, and videos.
These elements present information in different ways, make the website more interesting and engaging.
Now we've got a little check for you now.
True or false, websites cannot display videos.
Have a go.
How did you get on? I asked you true or false.
Websites cannot display videos.
It is false.
Websites can display videos, images, and texts to make their content more interesting and engaging.
Lucas asks, "Do all websites have the same features?" Not all websites are the same.
Websites have different features depending on their purpose.
Some types of website include news, shopping, educational, and social media.
News websites focus on articles and breaking news stories.
Whereas shopping websites or e-commerce websites have shopping baskets, product listings, and reviews.
Games and video streaming allow you to create profiles and interact with others, and education websites often have lessons, quizzes, and resources.
Sofia has asked us a really good question.
"What is a hyperlink?" Do any of you know? Hyperlinks are bits of text or media that when clicked take you to another page on the website, they can also lead you to other external websites.
Lucas asks, "How do I find my way around a website?" Websites often have menus at the top of the page or on the side of the page.
These help you to easily find sections of the website that you might be interested in.
These menus can often link to sections such as the homepage, contact us or about us sections.
Great question, Lucas.
Sofia has asked us, "What is a homepage?" A homepage is the first page you see when you visit a website.
It provides hyperlinks to other pages on the site and often includes important information about the website's purpose.
The homepage helps users search and find what they are looking for.
Okay, we have a check here.
And the question is, what does a navigation menu do? A, gives you directions home, B, uploads pictures to the site, or C, helps you find sections of the website.
Have a go.
How did you get on? I asked you, what does a navigation menu do? A, gives you directions home, B, uploads pictures to the site, or C helps you find web sections of the website.
The answer is C.
It helps you find sections of the website.
Okay, here is your first task.
I would like you to browse your school website and draw the homepage on a piece of paper.
Can you label the key features? So the logo, the title, pictures, menu, and hyperlinks.
Have a go.
Welcome back.
How did you get on? I asked you for task A to browse your school website and draw the homepage on a piece of paper and label the key features, which were logo, title, pictures, menu, and hyperlinks.
Yours might have looked a little bit like mine, but your school website may look different to the website I have used as an example.
We are going to move on to section two.
Our learning cycle two is identify content that can be shared on the worldwide web.
All the websites shared on the internet are known collectively as the worldwide web, www dot or the web.
Websites can show us information like text, pictures, and videos, and can be used to find the latest news, do online shopping or for educational reasons.
Some websites are just for looking at, but some websites allow people to add and share their own content.
Most websites are created by using a special code called HTML, which stands for hypertext markup language.
Websites are usually created by web developers, but anyone with access to the internet could make a website.
Lucas has asked, "Does that mean anyone can add content to any website?" That's a really good question, Lucas.
Not everyone can add content to every website.
Some websites let anyone post things such as blog and video sharing sites.
Most of these websites require some sort of login so that they know who has added what.
For other websites, you need special permission to add things such as a school website.
School or organisation websites are usually run by a member of staff such as a teacher or a specialist member of IT staff.
They decide what content can be added including news and photos.
Okay, a little check here.
True or false.
Only web developers can add content to a website.
How did you get on? I asked you true or false.
Only web developers can add content to a website.
The answer is false.
Some websites allow anyone to add their own content, such as social media, blog sites, and video sharing sites.
Great job.
Laura has asked.
"Once something is posted on a website, can anyone see it?" That's a great question, Laura.
Once content is posted onto a website, lots of people can see it.
However, some websites are public and visible to all and some websites are more private and people need to log in to see the content.
Most websites have simple tools to help with adding content.
For example, you can add text by typing in the box or select the pictures and images you want to upload and then click the post option.
Okay, a little check in now.
Which of these is a common way to add content to a website? A, watching a video, B, uploading a photo, or C, reading a book.
Have a go.
How did you get on? I asked you which of these is a common way to add content to a website? A, watching a video, B, uploading a photo, or C, reading a book.
Well done.
It was B, uploading a photo.
Great job.
We're going to move onto task B now.
You are going to decide whether the examples can be shared to a website, shared privately, or are not website content.
So our examples are uploading a video to a video sharing site, emailing a teacher, writing in a diary, posting on a class blog or drawing a picture with a pencil and paper.
Have a go.
How did you get on? I asked you to decide whether the examples can be shared to a website, shared privately, or are not website content.
So they included uploading a video to a video sharing site, emailing a teacher, writing in a diary, posting on a class blog, drawing a picture with pen and paper.
So uploading a video to a video sharing site is shared to a website.
Emailing a teacher is shared privately.
Writing in a diary is not web content.
Posting on a class blog is shared to a website and drawing a picture with a pencil and paper is not web content.
Great job, everyone.
We're going to move on now to learning cycle three.
Describe how websites allow you to create content.
Jun has asked us, "What does content mean?" What does content mean? Content is the information, pictures and videos or text that you can find on a website or in a digital space.
When you post something on a website, you are a content creator.
You are creating content when you write a comment on a blog, share a photo on a class website, upload a video onto a video sharing site, create and code a game on a coding site.
Websites often have built-in tools to help people create content such as a text box for writing, a button to add images or videos, menus to choose fonts, colours, and styles, and comment or reply sections to join in conversations with others.
Okay, we've got a little check in now.
People can add text to a website by using A, books, B pencils, or C, tools.
Have a go.
How did you get on? I asked you people can add text to a website by using A, books, B, pencils, or C, tools, and the answer was C, tools.
People can add text to a website by using tools.
Great job.
Some websites are designed for sharing creative work and common interests.
For example, coding websites and websites where you can collect together ideas.
Sharing content is a way to connect, inform or entertain others.
"How can I create content?" Ask Laura.
Good question, Laura.
For something to be shared, it needs to be uploaded.
Uploading is the process of sending a file to a remote computer or website.
Okay, another little check in here.
True or false.
You can create content on websites by writing, drawing, or adding pictures.
Have a go.
How did you get on? I asked you true or false.
You can create content on websites by writing, drawing, or adding pictures.
The answer is true.
You can create content on websites by writing, drawing, and adding pictures.
Okay, we are going to move on to our third task now, task C.
On paper, design a website about one of your hobbies or interests.
Include features that would allow others to upload and share their own content.
Think about what kind of things could people share on your site.
What buttons or tools would help other people add their content? Would people need to log in? Can others comment on or like the content? Have a go.

I also asked you to think about what kind of things could people share on your site? What buttons or tools would help people add their content? Would people need to log in? Can others comment on or like the content? What I'd like you to do is share your website ideas with your class.
Let's compare what sort of websites you have all created.
Great job.
You have worked so hard today.
Well done.
Let's summarise what we have learned.
Websites are collections of pages that can be used to share information, sell things, or play games.
Web pages often include a logo, title, pictures, menu, and hyperlinks.
Many websites are created by web developers, but anyone with internet access can create a website.
Most websites have special tools to help you add content, and sharing content is a way to connect, inform, or entertain others.
Great job, everyone.
I hope to see you again soon.
