Hello, everybody.

Welcome to computing.

My name is Mrs. Franzsen.

It's really good to see you here.

Let's get into our learning for today.

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to identify the features of a good website and know how webpages are created.

Let's go through our keywords for today.

Our first keyword is website.

A website is a collection of interlinked webpages stored under a single address.

The next keyword is webpage.

A webpage is a single HTML document viewed using a web browser.

The third keyword is web browser.

A web browser is a programme used to view, navigate and interact with webpages.

The last keyword is HTML.

HTML stands for hypertext markup language.

HTML is a language used to define the structure of webpages.

In the first part of the lesson, we will be looking at knowing the difference between a webpage and a website.

Jacob says, "A website is something that I use for my homework." Sophia says, "My parents use websites to make online purchases." Lucas says, "I access websites on my tablet to stream videos." A website is a collection of information relating to a particular topic that can be accessed on a range of devices.

You can see here we've got a tablet, a laptop and a mobile phone.

What is a webpage? Jacob says, "Isn't a webpage the same as a website?" Websites can be made up of lots of interlinked webpages.

You can see here on the diagram, we've got a homepage and lots of other webpage linked to that, making up the website.

The pages are related and together, they make a website.

Let's do a check here.

True or false? A webpage can be made up of several websites.

Pause the video and think about your answer.

The answer was false.

A website can be made up of several webpages that aren't related.

Well done if you got that one right.

How do you access a website? Sophia says, "I use a web browser installed on my laptop." A web browser allows you to navigate or find your way around the worldwide web.

You can see here, we've got an image of a browser.

We've got the back and forward buttons on the side.

We've got the tabs at the top and then in the middle at the top, we've got the address bar.

A web browser displays web pages and allows you to interact with them.

You can see here, we've got a website of the San Diego Zoo.

What do you use to access a website? Is it A, a search engine, B, a web browser or C, a finder? Pause the video here and have a think about your answer.

Welcome back.

What do you use to access a website? The answer is B, a web browser.

Well done if you got that one right.

It's time for us to do a task now.

In the first part of the task, I want you to explain the difference between a webpage and a website.

In part two, I want you to make a list of websites you use most often.

It's time to go and work on that task.

You can pause the video here if you need to and then come back and we can go through the answers.

Welcome back, well done for your effort in that part of the task.

Let's go through the answers.

So the first question was to explain the difference between a webpage and a website.

So one answer is a website is a collection of information on a particular topic that can be accessed on a range of devices.

A website is sometimes made up of a collection of webpages.

And then for part two, you would have your own list of websites.

You can write them using the www at the front like I have in the first example.

Some websites you could also write with the HTTP or HTTPS at the beginning and then the colon and the forward slashes.

Either way is fine.

In the next part of the task, you are going to use a website to gather information.

Can you move around the site without using the buttons on the web browser? Have a think about how you would navigate this site.

We have two different ways of moving around on this sign.

We've got the buttons to move to different pages and we've got the search bar to look for specific terms. If you want to find out more about a specific animal on the zoo's website, what is the best button to press? Is it A, videos, B, games or C, animals and plants? Pause the video here to think about your answer.

Okay, let's look at the answer here.

Looking for information about a specific animal on the website.

The answer would be C, you would press the button that's labelled animals and plants.

Well done if you got that one right.

Let's do a different check here.

If you want to find out more about helping endangered species, what is the best button to press? Is it A, stories, B, save animals or C, animals and plants? Pause the video here to think about that.

Let's look at the answer for this check.

To find out more about helping endangered species, you would select B, save animals.

Well done if you got that one right.

Websites can contain lots of information.

What type of information could we find using the zoo's website? Sophia says, "We could find out where a particular animal is from and its typical habitat." Lucas says, "We can see whether or not an animal is endangered." Let's do a task here.

In the first part of the task, I want you to navigate to the website, sdzwildlifeexplorers.

org.

The second part says, "Use the website to find out what is special about a tiger's night vision?" So you are going to be using this website for a bit of research today.

The next question says, "Use the website to find out, in the "Beautiful Baby Hippo" story, what is the hippo's name?" And then the last question says, "Use the website to find out what habitat does an arctic fox live in?" It's time to go and research those answers.

You can pause the video here and I'll be here when you get back and we can go through the answers together.

Welcome back, I could see people were working really hard on that task, doing their research on the website.

The tiger's question reads, "What is special about a tiger's night vision?" The answer says, "A tiger's night vision is six times better than a human's." Let's look at the next question together.

It says, "In the "Beautiful Baby Hippo" story, what is the hippo's name?" So from looking this up on the website, you can find out that the baby hippo is called Amahle, which means beautiful one in Zulu.

The last question reads, "What habitat does an arctic fox live in?" And the answer is, an arctic fox's habitat is the tundra.

They are found in the arctic circle.

Well done for all of your hard work on that research task.

In the final part of the task, you'll be working on recognising the features of a good website.

What makes a good website? You could pause the video here to have a think about this question or maybe talk about it with some people near you.

Sophia says, "A good website contains interesting information." Lucas says, "A good website has clear information and uses a range of suitable media." So when he says media, that's talking about pictures, video, sound and graphics which match the topic or the information on that website.

A good website will have a of media such as text, images, videos, et cetera, clear buttons to take you to other webpages, a search bar so that you can search for specific words and phrases.

I wonder if you are thinking of a specific website that you use that has all of these features.

The navigation menus allow you to choose which section of the website to look at.

There is a clear navigation system with text describing what the page is about.

The text gives more information.

Another feature is, this box allows you to search for a specific word or phrase on the website.

Pictures make the site colourful and each picture can be clicked on to show more information.

Let's do a check here.

A good website will contain A, lots of text, B, lots of different webpages or C, a variety of suitable media? Pause the video here to think about your answer.

Let's look at the answer here.

A good website will contain C, a variety of suitable media.

Well done if you've got that one right.

Do you know how websites are created? Websites are made up of code called hypertext markup language or HTML for short.

You can see the code for any website by following these easy steps.

One, go to any website.

Two, right click on a part of the website.

So for an example, you can right click on an image.

And then number three, click on inspect.

When you do this, you will now see the HTML code.

This defines what the website will look like.

It can be really interesting going to a website that you use quite often and look at the code using inspect.

There's all sorts of secrets hidden in there.

Let's do a check here.

HTML stands for, is it A, high text markup language B, high tech machine learning or C, hypertext markup language? It's a tricky one.

Pause the video and have a think about that.

Let's look at the answer for HTML.

What does it stand for? The answer is C, HTML stands for hypertext markup language.

Well done if you got that one right.

It's time for the final task of this lesson.

The first step is to annotate this screenshot to highlight examples of different types of media and different ways that you can explore the website.

I want you to do the same for this screenshot as well.

I want you to highlight examples of different types of media and different ways that you can explore the website.

It's time to go and work on this task now.

You can pause the video here and when you get back, we can go through the answers together.

Let's go through the answers for task C.

The first question was to annotate this screenshot to highlight examples of different types of media and the different ways that you can explore the website.

So the first thing to take note of here, is the menus at the top of the page allow you to choose which section of the site to look at.

In the second question, the screenshot here shows that there are pictures on the website, which makes the website more colourful, more engaging as well.

Also, each picture can be clicked to show more information.

At the top of the page, you can see find animal and this box allows you to search for specific words on the website.

Well done if you spotted those.

That was a really good lesson.

Well done for all of your effort today.

Let's summarise today's learning.

A website is a collection of information relating to a particular topic that can be accessed on devices connected to the internet.

HTML is a language used to define webpages.

Websites can be made up of lots of different webpages.

Websites are accessed via a web browser.

A good website will have a variety of suitable media, such as images, text and videos.

It will also have buttons and a search bar so you can reach other webpages easily.

Thank you for joining me for this lesson today.

I hope to see you again soon.
