Hello, everybody.
It's Mrs. Franzsen here.
Welcome to Computing.
It's really great to have you in my lesson today.
By the end of the lesson, you will be able to design your own webpage for a purpose.
Let's look at our keywords for today.
Our first keyword is audience.
An audience is the group of people the website is designed for.
The second keyword is purpose.
A purpose is the reason the website has been created.
The last keyword is layout.
Layout is how items such as text and images are arranged on the page.
In the first part of the lesson, you will identify the purpose of a website.
Websites are always created for a purpose.
People have lots of different reasons for creating websites.
If you make a website, you need to think about who it is for, that's the audience, and why you are making it, that is the purpose.
Those are two really important questions, the who and the why, the audience, and the purpose.
An audience is a group of people who will use the website.
The website will be designed to attract a specific audience.
The audience may be defined by things such as age, interests, and needs.
The purpose is what the website is for.
Some websites may be created to inform or educate.
Others may be for entertainment.
The purpose is the reason you are making the website.
Let's do a check here.
Fill in the gaps to complete the sentences.
The blank of a website is why you are making it.
The blank is who will use the website.
Pause the video and have a think about your answers.
Welcome back.
Let's look at the answers here.
On the first sentence, it should read, the purpose of a website is why you are making it.
The second sentence reads, the audience is who will use the website.
Well done if you got that one right.
What is the purpose of this website? Who is the audience? Let's have a look at this website.
It is titled "All About Pets", and this webpage is called "All About Dogs".
Sofia says, the purpose of the website is to tell people all about dogs.
The audience may be people who already have a dog, or people who are planning to get one.
What is the purpose of this website? Who is the audience? Sofia says, the purpose of the website is to tell people all about the uniform at school.
The audience consists of the parents and pupils at the school.
Let's do a check here.
I want you to have a look at this website.
What is the purpose of this website? Who is the audience? Pause the video here and have a think about these questions.
Welcome back.
Let's look at this website together.
The purpose of the website is to sell games and gaming technology.
The audience is anyone who is interested in gaming.
Well done if your answers were similar to this.
We're gonna do a task now.
You are going to design your own website.
Question 1 says, what will the purpose of the website be? Question 2 says, who will it be for? Remember, that's the audience.
Jacob says, if you are struggling to think of ideas, think about your own hobbies or interests.
It's time to go and think about these questions.
Get your answers written down, pause the video here, and I'll be here when you get back.
Let's look at these answers together.
For the first question, what will the purpose of this website be? This example is about an animal website.
It says, the purpose of my website is to tell people all about animals.
It will have different sections that users will be able to click on to find out more about specific animals.
Question 2 says, who will it be for? That is the audience.
It will be for young people aged between seven and 16 who are interested in animals.
That was some really good effort on that task.
Well done for your hard work.
In the second part of the lesson, you will design the layout of a webpage.
The layout of a webpage is how items such as text and images are arranged on the page.
This can be done in lots of different ways.
Before you can design your website, you will need to understand the features of the software you'll use to create it.
Today, we will look at Google Sites.
Let's watch this video here, which will show you the steps to create your website.
Now that your webpage is created, let's look at the next step of naming your webpage and adding a logo.
The header for your webpage will be the title.
There are some options to choose from in Google Sites.
You've got the cover, where the header covers the whole screen.
You've got the large banner, where the header covers half of the screen.
You've got the banner, where the header covers a thin strip.
And you've got the title only option, where there will be no picture.
Watch this video to see the steps for choosing a header for your webpage.
Watch this video here to learn about choosing your format.
Let's do a check here.
The layout of the webpage, A, specifies the heading of the webpage, B, specifies the content of the webpage, C, specifies how items are arranged on the webpage.
Pause the video here to think about your answer.
All right, let's look at the answer.
The layout of a webpage, C, specifies how items are arranged on the webpage.
Well done if you got that answer right.
When designing a webpage, it is useful to plan out the content and layout of the page.
You can see here an example of planning the layout for the All About Animals webpage.
The design should include what the title will be and the header style, where the images will be on the page and what they will be of, where the text will be on the page and what it will be about.
Let's do a check here.
The design of a webpage should include the, A, exact text that will be used, B, title and header style, C, actual images that will be used on the page.
Pause the video to think about your answer.
<v ->The answer for this one is B.
</v> The design of a webpage should include the title and header style.
Well done if you got that one right.
It's time for our task now.
The first one says, using the webpage design template, design the layout of your webpage.
Remember to consider the purpose and the audience of your website.
Off you go now, you can work on this task.
Pause the video here, and when you are finished, come back and we can go through the example layout together.
Welcome back.
Well done for working hard on your layout.
Here is an example of the All About Animals website.
You can see that we have labelled the logo, the website name, and at the top I have shown I want the header to be the banner style.
You can see that there are boxes I've drawn for the different spaces where I want my images to be and where I want my texts to be.
I've made sure to label every box with what I want to put in there so that my design is really clear when I come to build this webpage.
Well done for your effort and that task.
You've worked really hard today.
Let's summarise the learning.
If you make a website, you need to think about who it is for, the audience, and why you are making it, the purpose.
The design of a webpage should show the layout of the page and indicate what content will be included on the page.
Thank you for joining me in this lesson today.
I hope to see you again soon.
