Hello, I'm Mr. Ballam.
Thanks ever so much for joining me today.
I hope you are well.
Are you? Well, today we're all gonna be learning a bit about healthy eating and we're going to be looking about eating, drinking, and growing.
So our lesson is called Eat, Drink, and Grow.
Let's find out what we're gonna learn, shall we? Well, in this lesson, we're going to list the reasons we need food and drink.
Can you think what they might be? Okay, let's get started, shall we? Here's some key words, which we're going to cover in this lesson.
So try and pay attention to them and see if you can find them as we go through the slides.
The first one is grow, and that's the mean to get older and bigger.
The second word is active, and this is to do something, like playing, running, or perhaps going swimming.
And the last word I want you to look out for is healthy, and this is being free from illness or injury.
So we're going to be looking at grow.
We're going to be looking at active and healthy.
Okay, let's get started.
Now, food is essential for life.
What would happen if we didn't eat? What would happen if we didn't have food? We need to eat every day.
And what food do you eat and drink? Can you tell me? And we need food for different reasons.
We need food to grow, to be active, and to be healthy.
So it's really important that we have the right food every day.
And of course, we've gotta have a drink as well, haven't we? Now we need food to grow and here's some stages of us growing.
So we've all been a baby, haven't we? And then we can grow up into children.
This is probably you now, isn't it? And then they grow up into adults, older adults.
So you can see here that they're growing from the baby to the adult.
And we need food to help us do this.
Now, think about this.
Do you think they eat different types of foods? Look at the baby photograph.
What is it eating? Can you tell me? Would the adults eat this food? Mm, probably not.
So probably.
So throughout life, we probably eat different types of food, depending how old we are.
Now, we also need food to be active.
And active could be lots of different types of things.
So it could be swimming.
Do you enjoy swimming? I do.
It could be running, but it also could be playing games as well.
Do you do any of these? How active are you? Are you very active or not really? It's important though to be active and we need food to help us do this.
And we need food to help us stay healthy.
What does healthy mean to you? I'm sure it means different things to different people, but do you remember? It's about being free from injury or illness.
So we need food to be healthy.
Well done.
Okay, a little quiz for you here.
So which of these is showing being active? Pick one: a, b, or c.
That's right, it's b, isn't it? They're swimming.
They're swimming and being active.
A, they're sleeping.
And c, they're reading.
So b is the correct answer.
Well done if you got that right.
So we need different types of food to be healthy.
Look at these amazing foods on here.
What are these called? Do you remember? That's right.
Fruits and vegetables.
And we need to have lots of different types of fruits and vegetables.
Try and go for lots of variety.
Lots of different ones.
And what can you see here? Is there anything familiar that you can see? Um.
I can see some bananas.
Can you see those? Can you see some green peppers? Ah, well done.
You've done really well at this, haven't you? So we need lots of different types of fruits and vegetables to be healthy, but we also need foods like these as well.
We need potatoes, bread, rice, and pasta.
So these types of foods as well help keep us healthy.
Have you had any of these recently? Did you have any of these yesterday? Hmm, I bet you probably did.
And there are other similar foods as well.
So let's have a quick test, shall we? So do you remember this one? Is this true or false? We need to eat lots of fruits and vegetables.
That's right.
It is true, isn't it? And why? Because we need lots of fruits and vegetables to be healthy.
Well done.
And we also need food like these.
We need milk, cheese, and yoghourt.
Are any of these your favourite? Hmm, I think mine would probably have to be the cheese.
But we need some of these types of foods to be healthy.
And we should also have food like these.
Let's have a look, shall we? Oh.
I wonder what these are called.
Can you help me? So what's the first one on the left? It's beans.
Yes, the beans are in the jacket potato.
So we need things like beans.
We need things like fish.
Can anybody tell me what type of fish this is? It comes in a can.
Oh, well done if you said tuna.
You are brilliant, aren't you? Well done.
And we need eggs, and we need sometimes some meat if we eat meat too.
Well done if you got those correct.
Right, let's have a quick check, shall we? So which of these should eat more to be healthy? A, b, or c? Look at the pictures.
That's right, it's c.
We need to eat more fruit and vegetables.
We need to eat more fruits and vegetables to be healthy.
Well done.
You're doing brilliantly today, aren't you? Congratulations! Right, we've got a little task for you here.
And I want you to tell Jacob why we need food.
So you need to finish off the sentences for him.
We need food.
Dot, dot, dot.
Good luck.
Pause the video now and come back when you've got your answers and we'll have a look together.
Okay, how did you get on? Shall we look at some examples? So the first one could be we need food to grow.
The second one is we need food to be healthy.
And the third one is we need food to be active.
Well done.
You're doing brilliantly.
So we need food to grow, to be healthy, and to be active.
Let's move on to the second part of the lesson about why we have a drink.
Now, water is essential for life.
We all need to drink water and we need to drink every day and we need to drink to keep us healthy.
What sort of drinks do you have? Do you have water? I bet you do.
I bet you are really healthy.
And we all need around six to eight drinks every day and we should drink throughout the day as well.
So we should have a drink in the morning, in the afternoon, and in the evening, right the way through the day.
And water is a great choice to have.
Now, do you have six to eight drinks every day? Can you count them for me? Hmm.
Think about what you had yesterday.
Did you have six to eight? I bet you did.
Here's a quick check for you.
So is this true or false? We need to have four drinks every day.
That's false, isn't it? And why? Well, we need to have six to eight drinks every day to be healthy.
Now, different types of drinks count such as these.
So water, which is a great choice, milk and juices.
These all count.
But do you think we should have six to eight glasses of just water every day? What do you think? No, we can have different types of drinks.
We can have different types of drinks every day, six to eight drinks a day.
So which of these do you think is the best choice for a drink? A, b, or c? That's right, it's a, water.
Water is the best choice for a drink here.
Well done.
Okay, we've got a task for you here.
And Laura has kept a drinks diary for two days.
How did she do? Could she do better do you think? Let's have a look together first of all.
So what did she have on Monday? Well, she had some water, some milk, and juice.
And on Tuesday she had water, a juice, and some milk.
So how did she do? Pause the video and come back together shortly and we'll have a look.
Good luck.
Okay, so let's see how you did, shall we? Let's look at some examples of what you could have said.
So on Monday, Laura had five drinks.
Can you count 'em with me? She had water, water, water, milk, and juice.
She had five.
But that isn't six to eight drinks a day, is it? No.
So she needs to drink more.
She needs more.
How about the next day? How about Tuesday? How many drinks did she have on a Tuesday? She had seven drinks.
She did really well.
So she had between six and eight drinks on that day.
Well done.
So she did really well, didn't she? And I bet you do as well.
Well done on that task.
So how did you get on today? Did you enjoy it? It's a great lesson, isn't it, about eating, drinking, and growing and why we need food and drink.
So food and water are essential for life and we need to eat and drink every day.
And we need food and water to help us grow, to be active, and to be healthy.
And we need a range of different types of foods.
Do you remember? And we need six to eight drinks every day.
Well, well done in completing this lesson.
You did really, really well and you've learned loads.
And I hope you join me again for another cooking and nutrition lesson very soon.
Thanks ever so much.
Bye! See ya!.
