We are learning how to make the action really clear in our storytelling and our story writing at the moment, aren't we? And so we're going to work on that a bit more today with our new recycled stories.

We're going to be taking some key sections and thinking about how we can show what happened really clearly.

So this is what today's lesson is going to look like.

First, we will do a quick spelling activity.

So work on our tricky words a bit more.

Then we're going to do some speech bubbles and then some action songs.

So we're going to retail the action in the story through song.

I can't wait for that.

You know how much I love songs.

So this is what you are going to need today.

You will need an exercise book or a piece of paper to write on and a pen or pencil to write with.

So pause the video now, and go and get those things if you need to.

So let's begin with our spelling, shall we? So we know that we are learning tricky words at the moment.

These are your tricky words that you are going to practise spelling today.

Come, he, are.

Now in lesson one, we practised reading these words together, didn't we? And we practised putting them into our own story sentences.

Today, you are going to practise spelling them using your look, cover, write, check strategy.

So you're going to take each word at a time.

You are going to look at it carefully.

You're then going to cover it up.

You're going to write it three times.

Just like you can see on the screen in front of you.

Then you are going to uncover the word and check.

And at this point, if you've made any mistakes, you can correct them.

And if you need to, you can carry on spelling each word until you feel like you're really confident until you feel like you've got it.

So I would like you to pause the video now and practise spelling those three words.

Amazing effort, well done.

So remember those words come up all the time.

So it's really important that we learn how to spell them.

So just keep practising.

I'm sure that we will be using them when we come to write our recycled stories.

Now let's get onto the main part of the lesson.

First, we are going to do some speech bubbles.

And the reason that we're going to do that is because in today's lesson, we are exploring how we can make what happened in our story really clear.

And so we're going to take some key moments, the moments that Anansi tricks Dog, Ogre, and Peacock.

And we are going to be thinking about what Anansi says to those characters to trick them.

So we're going to do that with some speech bubbles.

So let's start with Anansi's first trick in our new recycled stories.

So we know that in Anansi's first trick is to trick Dog out of his bone.

Now in my story, Anansi does that by throwing a stick and saying fetch.

He knows that Dogs love to play.

So he throws a stick and says fetch.

Now what could I say then? What could Anansi say to Dog for my speech bubble? I think I'm going to have spider ask him a question first.

And the question is going to be, is it true that you love to play? Is it true that you love to play? Can you say that with me? Is it true that you love to play? Let's count the number of words on our fingers, shall we? Is it true that you love to play? Eight words, okay.

So watch me write it, you're going to help me.

Is, capital letter to start my sentence.

Is.

Space.

Is it true, now watch me write true.

Is it true that, th-a-t, That.

Is it true that you love, love.

Watch me write love.

Another tricky word.

Lots of tricky words in this sentence.

Is it true that you love to play? Now sound out play with me, ready? Play, p- l- ay, play.

Is it true that you love to play? Now because it's a question and I'm expecting an answer from Dog.

I need to put a question mark on the end.

Now watch me write a question mark.

There, that is a question mark.

So now I've got my question.

It starts with a capital letter and ends with a question mark.

Is it true that you love to play? And of course we know what Dog's answer to that is going to be.

He's going to say, ruff-ruff, oh yes.

Now I'm going to write one more word because I think Anansi is going to throw his stick and then say fetch.

So my word is going to be fetch.

So capital f, f, fetch.

Fetch and that is going to have an exclamation mark on the end because he says it in a loud voice.

Is it true that you'd love to play? Fetch! So that is my speech bubble in role as Anansi.

That's what I imagined Anansi might say to Dog to trick him out of his bone.

Now it's going to be your turn to write your speech bubble for that key moment in your story to try and make it really clear what happens there.

Here are some tricky words at the bottom of your screen to help you.

Walk, walkies, delicious.

But you'll only use those if they fit for your trick idea.

So make sure you know how Anansi tricks Dog in your story.

Now onto our second speech bubble for our second trick in our stories.

And our second trick is when Anansi tricks Ogre into running off somewhere so that he can snatch his pot of gold.

I wonder what Anansi says to Ogre to trick him.

Now in my story, Ogre is sad and lonely because he lives all alone.

And so Anansi tricks him by telling him that there's a lovely lady Ogre waiting to have dinner with him.

So my sentence in role as Anansi is going to be, there is a lovely lady Ogre waiting to have dinner with you.

Say that with me.

There is a lovely lady Ogre waiting to have dinner with you.

Let's count on our fingers, ready? There is a lovely lady Ogre waiting to have dinner with you.

That is 12 words, quite a lot.

So there is a lovely lady Ogre waiting to have dinner with you.

I am going to start with a capital letter for there.

And I think we've been learning how to spell that recently, haven't we? There.

There is a there is a lovely, lovely.

Now we've just written love, haven't we? When we wrote our speech bubble about how to trick Dogs, so let's see if we can remember.

Love, love-ly, l-y.

and it's that happy -y sound spelled with a -y like on the end of happy.

There is a lovely lady.

Watch me write lady.

L-a-d-y spells lady.

There is a lovely lady Ogre.

Watch me write Ogre.

There is a lovely lady Ogre waiting, waiting.

You can sound out waiting with me, ready? W-ai-t-i-n-g, waiting.

There is a lovely lady Ogre waiting to have, waiting to have dinner, d-i-nn-er, dinner.

And it's two -n's in the middle of dinner and it ends with the spelling -er.

So there is a lovely lady Ogre waiting to have dinner with you, w-i-th, with, you.

And what do I need on the end of that sentence? A full stop.

There is a lovely lady Ogre waiting to have dinner with you.

So that is what Anansi says to Ogre to trick him into running away from his pot of gold.

So that Anansi can grab it.

Now I wonder what your speech bubble in role as Anansi is going to be.

Hmm, depends on your trip, doesn't it? So you might have something similar or if you're going to trick Ogre by offering him a fantastic wig.

You might say something like here is a fantastic wig to wear for your party later.

Or you might if you were tricking Ogre, by saying that you had a genie's lamp for him, and that he could have three wishes.

You might say here is a genie's lamp that will give you three wishes.

Up to you, I wonder what you're going to write for your speech bubble.

Here are some key words at the bottom of your screen to help you.

Surprise, lake, Ogre, party, genie.

But again it depends what your trick is, doesn't it? It depends how Anansi is going to trick Ogre in your story.

So pause the video now and have a go at writing your speech bubble in role as Anansi for tricking Ogre.

And finally onto our last trick in our story.

This is when Anansi tricks Peacock into giving him his fan, isn't it? I wonder how Anansi tricks Peacock in your story.

In my story, can you remember what he does? In my story, he offers Peacock a bright, shiny crown, doesn't he? So that he can look even more magnificent.

In my story, Peacock is proud and he wants to look the best.

He wants to be king of all birds.

He wants to be the best looking bird in the world.

So Anansi offers him a crown.

So I think, again I'm going to ask a question in role as Anansi.

I think my question is going to be, do you want to be even more magnificent? Now magnificent means amazing, astounding, astonishing.

It means fantastic.

So do you want to be even more magnificent? Can you say that with me? Do you want to be even more magnificent? Count it on your fingers with me.

Do you want to be even more magnificent? Eight words.

Oh, I must remember to check this time.

So do, capital D at the start of my sentence.

Do you want, again lots of tricky words coming up.

Do you want to be, even, watch me write even.

Even more, so more has that -e on the end that we've done here.

Do you want to be even more magnificent? Magnificent, okay.

Now this is a long word but we can sound it out.

Do you think that you can help me? Now we can sound it out if we break it down into syllables.

So let's count how many syllables there are in the word, magnificent, ready? Mag-ni-fi-cent, four syllables.

So let's start with the first one, mag, m-a-g, mag.

Next syllable, -ni, mag-ni, -ni, n-i, -ni, mag-ni.

What's the next syllable? fi, -fi, -fi, f-I, -fi, mag-ni-fi-cent, c-e-n-t.

Now this sound in magnificent is spelled with a -c.

So watch me write it.

E-n-t There we go.

Do you- oh, mag-ni-fi-cent.

We've done it, magnificent.

Do you want it to be even more magnificent? And then I need to finish my sentence with a question mark, don't I? What'd you think of my question? Do you want to be even more magnificent? I think Peacock is going to fall for that.

So that is going to be my sentence in role as Anansi.

Now those help us to make the action clear because they give a bit more detail about how Anansi tricked each of those creatures.

And that's really important in our stories, isn't it? We need to make sure the tricks are really clear.

So now we've done that.

We are going to sing action songs.

Now action songs just mean that we are going to sing some songs about what happened in each trick moment in our new stories.

So I'm going to teach you the songs that I've written about my story.

About the tricks that happen in my story.

And then I'm going to show you how you can change each of the verses to make them work for your story.

So you ready to meet our first verse? Now the song is to the same tune as our Anansi song.

So you know the tune already.

So now let me tell you how you can make it your own.

This is the really exciting part.

How can you change those verses so that they work for your story? So you can see that I have got some words in pink in my verse.

Those are the words that you can change to make them fit for your story.

So if you chose the walk idea then you can change those words in pink for words in the green box.

And if you chose the big roast duck idea to distract dog then you can change the words in pink for words in the blue box.

Now if you have a different idea altogether then you might have to think a bit harder about how you can change the words in pink to fit your idea but that's okay.

That can be an exciting challenge for you.

So I would like you to pause the video here and have a go at changing the words in pink in my verse and making them work for your story.

And then you can sing that verse about how Anansi tricks Dog in your story.

Pause the video and do that.

Okay, so now we come to our second verse.

Which is how Anansi tricked Ogre.

So you can see again that I have put the words in pink that link to my story to how Anansi tricks ogre in my story.

Now you might change those words in pink for words in the green box.

If you chose the genie's lamp idea or for words in the blue box, if you chose the wig for the party idea.

Now if you didn't choose any of those options and you chose something different.

That's okay, you can just have a go at making up new words that fit for your story.

So pause the video now and have a go at changing the words in pink to make this verse work for your story.

And finally, the third verse.

Now this is how you can make this verse work for your story.

So again change the words in pink.

Now the words in the green box might work for you, if your trick was about swapping his fan for wings so that he could fly.

And the words in the blue box would work for you, if you chose the idea of giving him roller skates so that he could be the fastest running bird in the world.

And if you chose a different idea then have a go at making up new lyrics to fit that verse to make it yours.

So I would like you to have a go at changing the words in pink now in my verse to make that verse work for your story for your third trick.

Now the tricks are really important in our new stories, aren't they? So today we have used speech bubbles and songs to help us think really clearly about what happens in those key moments.
