Well, hello there.

I'm Mrs. Howley.

And this is Cedric, he is a snail and he is my helper.

And we are really excited because we get to tell our recycled stories today.

Before we get started, though, I've got one of my jokes for you.

Cedric loves my jokes, don't you Cedric? He thinks I'm hilarious, don't you Cedric? Anyway, the joke goes like this.

What joke do you tell a hyena? Have a think about it.

What joke do you tell a hyena? Any joke he laughs at anything.

Let's get ready for our learning.

In this lesson, we're going to tell a created story from memory.

We're going to start by learning a song and recycling it.

Then we're going to look at the map of the story and talk through it.

Then we'll go to step the story and then we'll get to speak the story.

For this lesson, you will need an exercise book or some paper, a pen or a pencil, and of course your brilliant brain.

In this unit, we're practising using one of the building blocks that great writers and storytellers use to write and tell amazing stories.

And that's vivid description, using all of the senses.

And I've got a song we can sing that will help us remember how to describe using our senses.

It goes like this, have a listen at first, and you can join in the second time.

And then I think we can recycle that to describe one of the animals in our story.

I'm going to use a lion this time.

So let's see.

What would I see on a lion? Long, sharp teeth.

What would I hear? A big loud roar.

What would I smell? The blood on his breath.

What would I feel? The soft smooth fur.

Then we can recycle our song to describe a lion.

Let's try it.

Maybe you could recycle that song to describe one of the animals in your recycled story.

Cedric is really excited about our recycled stories.

We can't wait to describe the different animals.

I'm going to talk through my map now, and all of this will help us remember the story so we can retell it from memory.

Okay Cedric, you're ready? So, the animals are in the forest of Africa.

They're sitting in the hot sun and they are so hungry.

They need one of the animals to go and learn the name of the tree from the mountain spirits.

First of all, they send a warthog.

What does he look like? Well, I can see big nostrils and long sharp horns.

What can I hear? He makes a loud snorting sound, ngorr ngorr.

So warthog goes up the mountain, learns the name, down the mountain, prrrrr hits the anthill, crash.

Gets bitten all over and forgets the name.

So next they send ostrich.

What can I see? Ostrich has long legs.

Oh, I can feel soft, smooth feathers.

And then ostrich gallops up the mountain, learns the name from the mountain spirits, comes back down the mountain and crash, hits the anthill, forgets the name.

So next they send a hyena.

What can I hear? High pitched, shrieking, cackling of laughter.

Now the hyena goes up the mountain, learns the name from the mountain spirits, awongalema.

And then went down the mountain, hits the anthill, forgets the name.

So next, who did they decide to send? So in my recycled story, I've chosen a snail.

What does the snail feel like? Well, his shell is soft and smooth, and his body is slimy.

You might not be very slimy, but my snail is.

And then the snail goes ever so slowly, slither, slither, slither up the mountain, learns the name from the mountain spirits.

Slither, slither, slither back down the mountain, says the name Awongalema.

And then the tree is filled with the most delicious fruits.

Now your recycled story might be slightly different to mine.

You might want to choose different animals.

If you've got your map from lesson one, then great.

If not choose some animals now, and then pause the video and have a go at talking through your recycled story map.

Now we've mapped the story and we've talked it through.

We're ready to step the story.

You might have done this before.

We're going to imagine that there's stepping stones across a river.

Each stone is an important part of the story.

And we're going to create an action and a few words for each of those steps.

I'm going to have a go first with my recycled story.

Right, if I get stuck at any time, I'm going to use my map here to help me.

Okay.

So at the start of the story, they gather under the tree.

Now here is my recycle bag.

Warthog says he'll go, ngorr ngorr.

He runs up to the top of the mountain and hears the name.

He runs back down and crash.

Gets bitten all over.

He's forgotten the name.

So they send, who do they send? Ostrich.

Ostrich runs up to the top of the mountain and hears the name.

Ostrich gallops down the mountain.

crash, hits it, the anthill and gets bitten all over.

Ostrich forgets the name.

So they send, who do they send now? Hahahaha hyena.

Hyena, Runs to the top of the mountain, hears the name, Runs back down, crash.

Hits the anthill, gets bitten all over by ants, hyena has forgotten the name.

So then they send snail.

That's him slithering along.

They sent snail.

Snail goes up slowly to the top of the mountain, hears the name, He comes back down the mountain, and remembers the name.

And the tree is filled with fruit.

And everyone eats and is really happy.

So, they gather under a tree, They send the ngorr ngorr, warthog.

He runs to the top of the mountain and hears the name.

He runs back down the mountain, hits the anthill and gets bitten all over.

He forgets the name so they send pikpikpik, ostrich.

Ostrich, Gallops up to the top of the mountain, hears the name, Runs back down the mountain, hits the anthill, gets bitten all over, Ostrich forgets the name.

So then they send hahaha, hyena.

He runs up to the top of the mountain, hears the name, Runs back down, crash.

Hits the Anthill, hyena forgets the name.

So then they send snail.

Snail crawls up the mountain slowly, hears the name, crawls slowly back down the mountain, Says the name, and the tree is filled with fruit.

Everyone eats the fruit, rha rha and is really happy.

Now you can have a go at stepping your recycled story.

I wonder what actions you'll do for your animals.

So on our journey to retelling our recycled stories from memory, we've recycled the story, we've mapped the story, we've stepped our recycled stories.

So now it's time to speak our recycled stories.

As we're focusing on description in this unit, I'm going to just try and describe the new animals using my senses.

If I get stuck, I've got my story map to help.

And I can remember some of the actions from my stepping.

Once upon a time in the forest of Africa, the sun was beating down and the animals were so hungry.

There had been no rain.

The animals gathered under a huge acacia tree.

Owl said, "If we say the name of this tree, it will give us all the fruit we need.

Who can remember the name of this tree?" The animals all shook their heads.

Warthog stood forward, ngor ngor ngor.

I'll go and learn the name from the mountain spirits.

I am ever so fast, ngorr ngorr.

He had long sharp tusks and large nostrils, ngorr ngorr.

He set off up the mountain.

He ran, and he ran, and he ran, he ran like the wind until he got to the top of the mountain.

And he called to the mountain spirits, "Ngorr ngorr, mountain spirits talk to me, ngorr ngorr.

Tell me the name of the old old tree." And the mountain spirits called back, Awongalema.

Ngorr ngorr, ngorr ngorr, "Awongalema?" Said the warthog.

And he ran back down the mountain, As fast as he could, Until crash.

He hit an anthill and got bitten all over by ants.

"Ahhhhhhhh" He screamed.

And as he brushed off the ants he realised he'd forgotten the name.

The animals needed to decide who they were going to send next.

Let me look at my plan.

They decided to send ostrich.

She had such long legs and a pointed beak, and she was a fast runner.

"I'll go." She said.

And off she galloped.

She Galloped, and she galloped, and she galloped, Until she got to the top of the mountain.

She called to the mountain spirits, and they called back, Awongalema.

"Awonalema?" She said.

And she galloped back down the mountain.

The soft feathers flowing in the wind until crash.

She hit an anthill and got bitten all over.

"Awwwwwwwww," She screamed.

And then she brushed off the ants.

She realised she'd forgotten the name.

When she got back to the animals, they needed to decide who to send next.

"Hahahaha, I'll go." Said hyena.

His loud laugh was ear piercing.

Hahahaha, and off he went running up the mountain.

He ran, and he ran, and he ran laughing all the way, hahahaha until he got to the mountain top.

He called to the mountain spirits and they called back, Awongalema.

Awongalema? Hahahaha.

And he ran back down the mountain and then crash.

He hit an anthill and got bitten all over.

Hahahaha, and as he brushed off the ants, he realised, "I've forgotten the name, hahahaha." When he got back to the animals, they asked him for the name.

"I forgot, hahahahaha." He said.

Who were they going to send next? Owl said, "I know.

we'll send a slow animal." Snail slithered slowly forward, his smooth shell shining in the sun, his slimy body slithered up the mountain, slither, slither, slither ever so slow, until he got to the top of the mountain.

He called to the mountain spirits, and they called back, Awongalema.

He slithered back down the mountain.

He slithered and he slithered and he slithered until he got to the tree and said the name, Awongalema.

The tree filled with the most delicious fruit.

And the animals hooo, ate, hooo, and they ate, hooo, and they ate.

I really enjoyed describing those new animals.

Now it's your turn to have a go at speaking your recycled stories.

Cedric asked if you could describe some of the animals, which senses could we use? You could say what the animals look like, what you could see, and maybe what the animals sound like.

You might even say what the animals feel like.
