Hi everyone Ms Freya here back for lesson six of our honey and trouble recycled character unit.
In lesson five we did some reading and practised our inference and retrieval skills to find clues and information in the text, and today were going to be having a look at our boxing from unit 7 adapting it for out new story, and making a character plan for one of our new animal characters.
I left you in lesson five with a trivia question, I told you all about Leopard spots, and how they look a bit like rosettes, and asked you how many you thought they had how many do you think I told you it was a lot how many, 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, how many? Well let me tell you that on average a leopard has between 800 and 1 thousand 200 of these funky rosette spots, the only thing that's got more spots than that is me.
Today were going to start off with a movement activity, followed by some spellings then were going to be adapting our boxing with our new recycled characters before making a character plan for one of our animal friends.
In this lesson you will need an exercise book or paper, a pencil, your brain, and some sticky notes or other small pieces of paper, so pause the video now if you need to get any of those things.
Now we're going to do a movement activity I'm going to do some animal actions based on some of the animals you might have chosen to put in your recycled story.
I'm going to do all of the actions four times so see if you can watch for the first time and then join in with the next three times I do it we'll all do it together and we'll do it a couple of times through so that you can get the sequence into your head.
Are you ready? Then lets go I'll teach you the animals.
Time for me to teach you some animal actions that you can do them with the rhythm in our movement sequence.
So my first action is for a Cobra you might have chosen a Cobra as one of your animal friends so I'm going to put my elbows together cause that's for our cobras skinny body and then were going to have our cobras hood which they can extend to look scary some movement is going to be like this.
Can you join in? Remember we're going to do all of them four times good job on your cobra.
The next one were going to do is an eagle were going to call silently with our eagle voices and flap our eagle wings, are you ready? Join in.
Very good, next one were going to do is our Peacock were going to be boy Peacocks now even your a girl, and we're going to uh display our beautiful eye tail feathers like this.
Join in.
Awesome, the next thing were going to do is an antelope were going to show our curly long horns.
Can you show me your antelope horns? Very good.
The last one were going to do is a leopard we're going to take our leopard paws and were going to swipe with our leopard ears.
Change hands why not.

Now were going to put all those movements together are you ready to join in with me? Hopefully you got those movements into your head were going to do them all four times remember and I'm going to play a metronome to help us keep in time with the movements.

Really good job everybody, maybe you can make up your own sequence using your recycled characters, perform them to people at home or your Teddy's or whoever will watch go for it.

Now were going to adapt our boxing templates that we made in unit 7 so get it now if you haven't got it with you already, You'll also need those sticky notes I told you about at the start of the lesson, or small pieces of paper so pause the video now if you need to go and get them.
So here I've got my boxing template do you remember when we made it in unit seven? In a boxing template I have got The story of honey and trouble drawn in pictures down this left hand column can you see, the monkey finding the honey him going to ask his friends for trouble and then hurting him and him being very confused.
Then him getting the bag from the wise woman of the forest then him running away from the three black dogs at the tree and finally in the end him getting the pot of honey from his mother and her making him feel better.
In the middle column we have out purpose.
Now the purpose of this unit that were doing is about character so we were focusing on how the monkey was feeling at different parts of the story we've got his feelings of delight, his feelings of being puzzled and hurt, his relief he's very relieved when the wise woman helps him, he's frightened of the dogs, and then glad when his mother helps him and then just on this last column we've got some notes.
These are our keywords, they might be some spellings that we need, or some important information that are going to help us with out writing.
But now that were recycling our story, some of these things need to change, so I'm just going to uh change those now so that when we go to write our story I'll have all the right information on my boxing template.
So what I've done is I've just cut my sticky notes so that there right size as my boxes so the first thing we recycled was our main character so I'm going to cover up my monkey and just draw my stork.
There he is and he found the honey and he loved it.
And but our main characters personality isn't going to change so that means our purpose isn't going to change he's going to feel or she if you've got a new girl character is going to feel exactly the same way so we don't have to change our purpose.
Now I need to change my notes to uh be reflective of my new character so new sticky notes, put this one over here and my new character is a st ork a stork yours might be an eagle, or a peacock, or something completely yours if you've chosen by yourself.
But I've- its still important than he thinks the honey is trouble so I'm still going to need those words lets write those and its still important that we show how foolish the main character is so I'm going to leave those words in my notes.
The next thing I am going to change is my animal main characters because we don't have an elephant, a tiger, and a buffalo anymore we've got three new characters and they will all be different depending on what you chose.
I chose a python, make her more wiggly my wiggly python, giver her an eye.
Do a little bit, dark hatches cause she's an Indian rock Python there not important that's just me liking Indian rock pythons.
So I've got my Python I have got my Jackal, that kind of foxy doggy faces.
This the Jackal make her a little bit shaggier on the side.
And we have got uh antelope so I'm going to draw my antelope I keep looking this way cause I'm looking at my story map for my pictures.
Its just helping me, you can do that with yours as well use your story map to help you.
Long pointy horns twisty horns.
Okay there's brother antelope, so I've done my three new characters.
Our Stork is still puzzled and hu rt hurt isn't he when his friends hurt him but my words are going to be different.
Now the word friends is still important so I'm going to put that back on my sticky notes cause that's a very tricky high frequency word fri-ends that's how you spell friends very strange uh but my animal names are different so I'm going to put python that's a Ms Frya I like in my name with a Y I'm going to have Ja ack al Jackal and three syllables An te lope antelope but still they ask he asks them and they get hurt our main character gets hurt when he ask his friends.
But that is all we need to update today because we're going to be writing this part of the story the opening like we wrote last time with our new character but this time now were a little bit more experienced and we know our story a little bit better were going to be writing the next part where he meets some of his friends as well.
So I'm not going to change the bottom bit that's enough for today so these are the boxes that I need to change.
And now its your turn, can you use sticky notes or your small of pieces of paper to adapt your boxing that you made remember to cover up your animals and switch them for your new ones and also fill in your new notes your new key words pause the video now to complete your task.
Now were going to make a character plan for one of our new animal friend characters.

For ou character plan were going to chose one of the animal friends that our main character is going to interact with.
I think today I'm going to chose sister Jackal because we read a lot about her yes didn't we and learnt about her main inner quality of being gentle and caring.
You can chose which ever one of your animals that you'd like.
When we make our character plan were going to refer constantly to our character writing tool kit with a box for physical appearance and dress, a box for action, a box for speech, and a box for thoughts and feelings, lets get started.
So here I've got my character plan template I tried to download the downloadable resource that I made but my printer is not very good so it doesn't matter at all if you don't have a printer because I think actually drawing it probably quicker and easier I've got to write in all my words anyway.
So on the character plan we are going to just give ourselves some words to help us just like with our boxing really their going help us with out writing.
I'm going to do mine today like I said with Sister Jackal just because I've already been thinking about her in my reading.
So here we go with Sister Jackal just going to draw my quick sister jackal picture.
She's got this stripey bangs down her, her big doggy nose.
Ju ack al Jackal.
So my plan is going to be about Sister Jackal.
Now I'm going to decide on her main inner quality.
In our reading yesterday we found evidence that she was gentle and caring so that's what I'm going to decide that her inner quality is.
You can decide that your characters have whatever kind of quality you like, maybe their a bit of a silly character, maybe their a shy or nervous character, maybe their a very excitable character and that's going to affect how they speak and how they move and their actions, maybe their a very grumpy character and they stump around and speak in a crossed voice.
So you can chose whatever main inner quality you like just make sure all of your things in your tool kit match it.
So I'm going it write gentle, and caring.
Because I decided that she was I wrote are reading piece yesterday and I decided she was gentle and caring.
So in her physical appearance and dress what is going to make her seem gentle and caring.
So I said yesterday and because it would help make her seem gentle and caring that she has golden, a golden tummy, so golds quiet a nice colour isn't it it makes you sort of fee- it makes you feel kind of nice and safe and so she's also got soft fur.
Were going to try and make sure we write at least one thing in each box but you could write more than one if you want to.
Now her actions that shows her personality, what did she do yesterday can you remember? That showed her personality what did she do her actions.
I remember she smiled didn't she she smiled proudly down at her cubs uh so that was a very caring thing she did.
Now in her speech what did she do yesterday in her speech that made her seem gentle and caring.
I remember that she had a soft growl so she has a soft voice, and she also asks very politely doesn't she how can I help you so I'm going to write that as well how ca n I He lp y o u spells you with a question mark she asks him if she can help, so that's something that she says which suggest that she is gentle and caring.
And then her thoughts and feelings kind of links to this one, I'm going to write how she is feeling proud of her puppy's.
She's feeling proud of her puppy's so that means that she must be a very caring mommy what a lovely mommy since the Jackal is.
So your turn now to make your character plan chose which ever one of your animal characters that you like.
And now its your turn can you create a character plan for one of your new animal friend characters.
