Hello everybody, it is me, Ms McCartney.

And in our lesson today, we are going to be boxing up our recycled story.

You will need your work from lesson one of unit 11, where we created our very own settings for our story, "The Marriage of Ganesha".

To make sure that you are fully prepared for today's lesson, you will need a piece of paper or something to write on, a pencil or something to write with, and your wonderful storytelling brain.

If you need to go and collect anything, pause the video now.

Okay, let's have a look at what we will be learning today.

We are going to start with a spelling activity, then we are going to play a game called "On the phone", and I am going to pretend to ring you on my pretend phone.

We are then going to draw the settings from our recycled story and then box up our plan so that we are prepared to write for the rest of the unit.

Okay, let's start with our spelling.

Today, we are going to be looking at the E sound.

Can you repeat after me? My turn E, your turn.

Fantastic.

Our E sound today is spelled E Y.

Shall we have a look at some of our words? We have got the word "Journey", "Journey." My turn, journey.

Your turn.

Can you point to our E sound? Well done.

It is spelled E Y.

Fantastic.

Our second word is "Valley", "Valley".

My turn, valley.

Your turn.

Fantastic.

And we have got the grapheme E Y for our E sound.

And our final word is "Monkey." My turn, monkey.

Your turn.

Fantastic pronunciation everybody.

Can you point to the E sound in monkey? Brilliant, it is the grapheme at the end.

So today I would like you to create three sentences about our story using these story words with the E Y graphemes spelling.

So for example, I might say, "Ganesha went on his very own unique journey." That is Ms McCartney's sentence.

Pause your video now to complete your sentences.

Brilliant.

I heard a learner say that in the Amazon rain forest Kartikeya met a monkey.

What a great sentence, shine for you.

And then somebody else said Kartikeya precariously slid down the valley.

Fantastic work everybody.

I wonder if you could use any of these words when we are boxing up today.

We are going to play a little game now and it is called "On the phone." So I need you to get your pretend phone ready because in a second, I am going to ring you and you are going to pretend to be Ganesha, and I'm going to be Ms McCarthy.

Ms McCartney is going to ask Ganesha some questions.

Now you are going to pretend to be Ganesha at the end of the story when he is married Buddhi, and he has told Kartikeya that he actually read books about going around the world instead of running the race.

So are you ready? Get your phone, ring, ring, ring, ring.

Hello Ganesha it is me Ms McCartney, and I just wanted to ask you how your wedding day was.

Your turn.

Ah, it is so wonderful that you had such a good day with your family and friends, but I'm really surprised to hear that you think that Kartikeya may be a little bit upset with you.

Why is he a little bit upset with you? Your turn.

Okay, so what I heard was that you think Kartikeya is a bit upset with you because he learned the truth about the race around the world.

What could you do to make your brother feel a little bit better? Your turn.

Oh, I really like the idea that you could suggest another game.

What game could you play with Kartikeya to cheer him up? Your turn.

Mm that does sound like a really fun game.

I would love to hear all about it next time we talk on the phone.

Fantastic.

I was so impressed with your knowledge of the story and that you were able to talk as if you were actually Ganesha.

Fantastic learning everybody.

Today, we are going to be boxing up the three scenes that we created in our recycled story.

We are boxing them up so that we can think a little bit more deeply about them so that when we start writing in lesson seven of unit 11, we already have some wonderful ideas.

Now you can see my three events.

I have my dark and scary event, and that is the deepest, darkest depths of the sea with a sea snake and my really scary fish that has a light on his head that is called an angler fish.

My second picture that you can see on your screen is my fancy setting.

And that is when Kartikeya goes to visit the queen at Buckingham Palace.

And my third picture is of the desert, because that is my really hot setting.

What I would like you to do now is to draw this table with the first column that says event, the second column that says what happens and the third column that says mood.

You then need to draw a picture of your three innovated settings in the event column.

Pause your video now to draw your table and your pictures.

Well done everybody.

Okay, let's move on to our first event.

Ms McCartney's first event is the deep sea.

And I think this is my favourite, I really love this one because it's really scary.

So I have summarised what happens.

I'm going to read you my summary, it says Kartikeya dives into the deepest, darkest depths of the sea.

I love all that alliteration, deepest, darkest depths.

All of those words begin with D! Kartikeya is terrified by the angler fish.

That's the fish with the light on his head and Kartikeya sees lots of shadows.

I would like to know what Kartikeya sees in your setting, in your dark and scary setting.

You are going to write three sentences to summarise what happens.

Pause your video now to complete your task.

Fantastic learning everybody.

I'm going to send you a little bit of celebration shine because you have written a really good summary of what happens.

We are now going to think about the mood, because remember our focus for unit 11 is mood.

So I have written that the mood is enigmatic, which means the scene is very mysterious because it's really dark and Kartikeya cannot see everything that is happening.

So it is really enigmatic.

It is spooky and we don't know what's going to happen.

I would like you to summarise your mood in your dark, scary location.

Pause your video now to complete your task.

I cannot wait to start our writing about this setting because the mood is fantastic.

And we are going to use some wonderful techniques to create a mood that moves our reader by making them feel a little bit scared.

Event number two for Ms McCartney is Buckingham Palace.

That is my fancy location.

Can you whisper your fancy location to me? Oh, they sound so fancy.

I am going to read my summary of what happens when Kartikeya visits Buckingham Palace.

Kartikeya visits Buckingham Palace, Kartikeya bows to the Queen, he bumps into the Queen's corgis.

Now the Queen's corgis are her dogs.

Oh, I can't wait to do my writing to explain that a little bit more.

You need to summarise what happens in your second location in three sentences.

Pause your video now.

Excellent summarising everybody.

Now I am going to read you what I have written about the mood when Kartikeya visits Buckingham Palace.

I have written Kartikeya thinks that Buckingham Palace is awesome.

He feels elated, remember that that means really, really happy, about meeting the Queen and her dogs.

Kartikeya wishes he had time to stay longer.

That is the mood for my second setting.

You need to pause your video now and write to what your mood is.

Fantastic work everybody.

Our mood for location two is very different to location one.

We have gone from somewhere really scary and terrifying to somewhere really fancy.

Let's have a look at event number three.

Event number three is our really hot location.

For Ms McCartney it is the desert.

I am going to read you my summary sentences.

Kartikeya is very, very hot and tired in the desert.

He starts to get a headache and starts daydreaming.

Kartikeya walks over the sand dunes and those are the hills of sand, for hours.

I would like to know your summary of what happens in your very hot setting.

Pause your video now.

I'm not sure if I really want to be in the desert or not.

I do want to be somewhere warmer, but it sounds very, very hot.

I am now going to summarise the mood of the story when Kartikeya visits the desert.

Kartikeya is very exhausted from the heat and endless journey.

Kartikeya is starting to lose hope and become weary, he's starting to become really tired and weak.

I wonder what the mood of your story is, in the really, really hot location.

Pause your video now to summarise your mood.

You have done such a wonderful job boxing up our story today.

We have written lots and lots of sentences, and that means that when we come to do our writing later in the unit, you are going to be super prepared.

I would like you to take a moment to look at your whole table that you have done to box up your plan and check that it makes sense.

Read through all of your notes and make sure that you are super happy, and that it makes sense.

Pause your video now to do that.

Excellent everybody.

We are now really prepared to start our writing and we are going to start our writing in lessons seven of unit 11.

I cannot wait to see you then.

We are going to start by writing about the palace garden.

So you can maybe start to think about what you might write then.

If you'd like to please ask your parent or carer to share your work on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter, tagging at Oak National and at Teach Team McCartney, hashtag learn with Oak.

Well done super storytellers, you have done such a great job today.
