It is me, Ms. McCartney.
And in today's lesson, we are going to be thinking really carefully about character's actions and how we can evoke a mood for our reader.
I'm really, really excited to be thinking about how our characters can move their body to show mood.
For our lesson today, you will need three things.
A piece of paper or something to write on, a pencil or something to write with and your wonderful creative brain.

Shall we have a look at what we are learning today? We are going to start with the spelling activity.
Then we have got a matching up game I'm really excited for.
We are then going to think about, how we can create actions for our characters to match the mood of the palace, and then how we can change that mood.
I'm very, very excited.
Let's get started with our spelling board today.
We are looking at the grapheme w r and that makes the phoneme wr, can you say wr? Fantastic.
Normally when we think about the phoneme wr we think it's just spelt with an r, this is a little bit tricky, but it is okay because I have got some clues to help us to remember our special words that have the grapheme w r.
Let's look at our first clue.
The first clue is the opposite of getting something right.
Can you think of a word that means the opposite of getting something right? Pause your video now and write down your word.
I wonder, did you get the word wrong? If you did give yourself a big tick and if you did not, that is okay because you can fix it.
Let's have a look at our next clue.
Our next clue says the destruction of Kartikeya's dream to win.
Hmm.
What is a word that starts with the grapheme w r that means destruction or destroyed? Pause your video now to write down your word.
Brilliant.
Did you get the word wreck? If you did give yourself a tick and if you didn't, you can fix it.
Let's have a look at our last clue now.
Hmm.
It says Ganesh feared Kartikeya's anger.
Hmm.
We learnt this word in lesson one of unit 11.
What word could it be? It starts with the grapheme wr.
Pause your video now to write down the word that you think means the same as anger.
Did you get the word wrath? If you did give yourself a tick and if you did not, you can fix it.
Well done everybody.
This grapheme is a little bit tricky.
You have done really, really well.
Let's move on and have a look at our game.
We have got a matching game today.
You can see in the coloured boxes, I have some actions.
I'm going to read out the action and I am going to act out the action and you can do it too if you fancy.
Humming as he brushed the petals past his fingers.
I'm going to pretend I'm Ganesh in the garden and I'm humming as I brush my fingers over my petals.
I quite enjoyed that.
It made me feel really relaxed.
Number two, closing his eyes, he massaged his temples.
Hmm.
Can you do it like this? There might also be a big sigh, if you are feeling really stressed, sometimes you get a headache and you have to massage your temples.
Hmm.
I wonder if that is a happy or sad mood, hmm.
Number three.
He laughed loudly and he expected heads to turn.
He expected people to look at him.
I'm going to do my laugh, ad I'm hoping that people are going to look at me.
The only thing, looking at me are the birds out of the window.
Number four.
He looked at his beautiful roses and wondered if they were a sign.
I'm going to look at my roses and wonder if they're a sign.
And remember they're really beautiful.
Hmm.
We now have four words to describe mood.
We have the word, tense, tense and stressful.
We have the word arrogant, which is where you really love yourself and you expect other people to love you too.
We have the word content where you are just really happy and pleased.
And we have the word hopeful, which means that you are optimistic, that things are going to work out well.
I would like you to match the mood with the action.
You can use the sentence stem, I think the action of mm matches the mood of mm because.

And I would like you to match all the actions with mood.
I would like you to tell me which mood you think matches with closing his eyes.
He massaged his temples, can you whisper it to your screen? Ooh, fantastic.
Lots of people said tense.
He was feeling very tense and stressed, and we can see that from his action.
Next one.
Humming as he brushed the petals past his fingers.
Hmm.
Which word matches that action.
Whisper it to your screen.
Ooh, lots of people said the word on our screen, but some other people said they thought that that action meant that Ganesh was really happy and you would be right.
But the word we were looking for on our screen is content.
He was really pleased and happy.
I hope that you felt content.
He laughed loudly expecting heads to turn.
He wanted, he expected people to look at him, which word, can you point to it? Would match that action.
Fantastic everybody.
Yes.
That is something very arrogant, very arrogant.
He wants people to look at him.
And our last one must match with the word hopeful.
He was looking at his beautiful roses and his roses had grown and they had not died.
They were there and exactly how he wanted them to be and so he had hope about his roses and it might be a sign about the future.
I really love thinking about characters, actions, and stories, because when I'm thinking of the actions of my characters, I also think about all the people I know in real life and the actions that they do, that I could put into my story.
Let's move on to looking at the mood in our recycled story.
We are now going to think about the actions, that Kartikeya and Ganesh might take in "The Palace Garden".
You can see on my screen, I have written the mood is serene.
If the mood is serene, just saying the word makes me feel it, you are calm, you are relaxed, and you are surrounded by beautiful things.
If you are on holiday, you might feel a bit serene.
And what we are going to do now, we are going to do some guided sensory meditation.
I would like if you are happy to, for you to close your eyes, and I would like you to follow my voice and imagine "The Palace Garden".
Close your eyes now.
We can already see Ganesh is sat at the side of the lake with his feet, dripping, dipping into the water.
Beside him.
A waterfall is dripping and it's making a lovely splish splashy noise.
Ganesh looks over and he can see some children laying on the grass and searching for insects with big smiles on their faces.
They are also kicking their feet up in the air and dancing around with their bodies.
In the other corner, there is a young child singing and jumping around in a circle with their friends.
Ganesh puts his hands behind his head, takes a nice deep breath through his mouth and exhales through his nose and a smile creeps onto his face.
I would like you now to think about what else would be happening in "The Palace Garden" to make it really calm and relaxed.
Have a little think in your head.
In my head, I am thinking about some musicians playing some really nice soft summer music.
Can you open your eyes and look back at the picture of "The Palace Garden" because what you are going to do now, you are going to draw a little mind map that has actions with four arrows.
And I would like you to write down the actions of anybody in the garden to show the serene, calm and beautiful mood.

Let's hear some of your ideas about the actions that you have created to create a really serene and peaceful mood.
I really wish that we were in "The Palace Garden" now.
Can you whisper some of your ideas to your screen? Oh.
Oh, I really like this action.
Somebody had the action of bees flying lazily from flower to flower to get some nectar.
Hmm, cause the bees are so happy and content that they are being really, really lazy.
Somebody else's idea, was that Ganesh.
When he had his eyes closed, his smile on his face, he laid back and then opened his eyes and looked at the birds singing in the sky.
Fantastic work everybody.
When you were thinking about the actions to create a serene mood.
But now, we are going to create a very different mood because who comes in, dressed in his armour and changes the mood? Shout his name to the screen? Kartikeya.
Fantastic everybody.
We are having a mood change.
And you can see some armour on my screen now.
We're still in "The Palace Garden", but we are changing our mood from serene to really chaotic.
Kartikeya is going to run in and disturb the peace.
So again, we are going to do a guided sensory meditation.
that I would like you to close your eyes, but it's not going to be as serene this time.
Kartikeya stomps into "The Palace Garden" and all the children stop and stare.
He treads over the flower bed, knocking flowers heads off of their stems. Oh no! As he marches over, his sword is clanging against his armour and making some really loud noise so we can no longer hear the beautiful waterfall.
When Kartikeya speaks, his voice booms across the garden and scares all of the insects.
Hmm.
Can you open your eyes again now.
We have got some very different actions this time to create a really chaotic scene where lots of different things are happening and Kartikeya is disturbing the peace.
I would like you to pause your video and write down four of the actions about how Kartikeya could create a chaotic mood.

I would love to hear some of your ideas.
Can you whisper them to the screen? Ooh.
Great work on action, everybody.
I heard somebody say, this is a really good idea, that Kartikeya leant over Ganesh who was laying on the floor and blocked out the sun and made a really cold shadow over him.
Hmm.
That is quite chaotic.
Has anybody else got a different idea? Whisper another idea to your screen.
Oh, interesting.
Somebody else said that Kartikeya, because he was in such a rush, not only knocks the flower heads off of the stems, but then he trips over and nearly went crushing into the lake.
Oh my goodness, that is really chaotic.
You have done such a wonderful job creating two very different moods today and you have crafted some wonderful sentences.
Before we finish, I would like you to think carefully about editing your sentences.
Go back, you should have eight sentences all together and check your punctuation.
And I would also like you to check to see if you could use any exclamation sentences.
Those sentences that show a shock or surprise or enjoyment that start with what or how and have an exclamation mark.
Go and have a little edit now.
