Hello everybody.

It is me, Miss McCartney and I am super excited to be learning with you today.

We are going to be boxing up our story.

We are going to use our story maps to create our very own boxing up plan to help us to prepare for writing our recycled story.

I cannot wait to get started.

For our lesson today, you will need a piece of paper or something to write on.

A pencil or something to write with and your wonderful, creative brain.

You will also need your story map that we created in lesson one of unit eight.

Your story map will remind you of your recycled story and that will really support you in today's lesson.

If you need to go and get any of those things, pause your video now.

Brilliant.

Let's have a little look at what we will be learning today.

We are going to start with the spelling activity.

Then we are going to play the game called 'on the phone'.

I am going to ring you and you are going to be your main character.

And that will warm up your brain ready for our boxing up of events.

And our boxing up plan will prepare us for writing our recycled story.

Let's get started with our spelling.

We are going to be looking at adding the suffix -ment to our root words.

And when we add our suffix -ment, we change our words from verbs to nouns.

Let's have a little look at what that looks like.

I have got the verb enjoy.

And when I add my suffix -ment, I get the noun enjoyment.

My turn, your turn.

Enjoyment, your turn.

Brilliant.

My next verb is excite.

And when I add my suffix, -ment, I get the word excitement.

I get the noun excitement.

This time, I want you to whisper what you think my new noun is going to be.

I have the verb encourage, and I'm going to add the suffix -ment.

Whisper to your screen now what you think the word is going to be.

Brilliant.

Encouragement.

One of my favourite words, I love it when I see encouragement from one learner to another learner.

Okay, I have got the verb achieve.

What is my noun going to be once I've added my suffix, -ment? Whisper it to your screen.

Fantastic.

Achievement.

So we've got all of our words that we are looking at today.

Our root words are verbs and when we add the suffix -ment it turns those words into nouns.

Today, we are just adding the suffix to the root words and we don't need to make any changes.

I would now like you to create three nouns from the verb root words, using the suffix -ment and write them in three sentences.

Miss McCartney's example is, When the baby shark swam with the other fish it was an achievement.

You have got the nouns at the bottom.

Enjoyment, achievement and encouragement.

And they all have our -ment suffix.

Pause your video now to create your sentences.

Excellent.

Choose your favourite sentence and whisper it to the screen.

Fantastic.

I had one of our learners say at the end of the story, the fish's family offer her encouragement.

Well done you.

Give yourselves some spelling shine because you have done such a great job.

We are now going to play the 'on the phone' game.

So I will see you in just a second.

We are now going to play a game called 'on the phone'.

I am going to be Miss McCartney and you are going to be the main character in your story.

So remember, my main character is the baby shark, who is actually a fish.

Who is your main character? Can you whisper it to the screen now.

Excellent.

I have heard all about these wonderful characters already.

And now I am going to learn a little bit more.

Now you are going to be the character at the end of your story.

And I am going to be asking you some questions about your journey.

Okay, are you ready? ♪ Ring, ring, ring, ring.

♪ Hello there main character.

Now, I have heard from a friend that you have had a very eventful day.

Could you tell me about the strangest thing that happened in your day today? Your turn.

Wow, that does sound very strange.

It sounds like you thought you were one kind of animal and actually you are another kind of animal.

Could you tell, how do you feel about that? Your turn.

Yup.

Okay, so I have heard that actually you're feeling really confused because for your whole life, you were with your family who are one animal and actually now you found out you belong to another group of animals as well.

Would you please tell me how did your family react? Your turn.

Okay, so what I've heard is that the adults in your family were really reassuring.

They gave you lots of hugs and told you that they loved you.

And your brothers and sisters were supportive too but sometimes they make little jokes and laugh at you.

My last question now.

If somebody does make a mean joke or says something about who you really are, what could you do in response? What could you say to them? Your turn.

Fantastic, I will speak to you really soon.

Okay everyone.

I was so impressed with you speaking in role as your main character.

And I heard so many wonderful ideas that are going to help us with our boxing up.

Let's get started.

We are now going to complete our boxing up plan together.

Now I have three columns.

I have my first column that tells me which section of the story I am thinking about.

And I have four of those, the beginning, the problem, the solution, and the ending.

In my second column, I have a box for each of those where I am going to draw a picture.

And in my final column, it says Summary and I have four boxes there for my summary.

Now I would like you to pause your video and create your boxing up plan.

So you have got the beginning, the problem, the solution, and the ending.

Pause your video now to draw your plan.

Excellent.

Now our boxing up plan is a little plan to help us so that when we come to write our recycled story, we have already got our ideas down and we know which order we are going to write in.

So let's start at the beginning.

In Miss McCartney's story, the beginning of the story starts with a problem.

It starts with a mummy shark and she is very hungry.

She is looking for a snack.

There she is with her sharp teeth.

But actually she finds an abandoned fish egg, but she does not eat it.

She puts the abandoned fish egg in with her own baby shark eggs.

So I'm going to write my summary now.

I'm going to write mummy shark.

Mommy shark found an abandoned.

a-b-a-nd-o-ned.

Mummy shark found an abandoned.

Now I had to change some of my sounds here because it doesn't sound out perfectly because I have an O here.

Mummy shark found an abandoned fish, fish egg.

Okay, that's my first sentence.

Then I'm going to say, She hid Now remember, hid is an irregular past tense verb.

She hid the egg amongst Now amongst is a preposition because it is comparing the position of something to something else.

She hid the egg amongst her own shark eggs.

Fantastic, so that summarises the beginning of my story really nicely with a little picture to remind me.

Pause your video now, to draw your picture and write your summary.

Excellent.

I think we're ready to move on to the problem.

Now, the problem in my story is that the baby shark, who is actually a fish starts to feel a little bit different because she doesn't have any teeth and she cannot play the pebble game with her shark brothers and sisters because she doesn't have any teeth.

and the pebbles keep falling out of her mouth.

Here is one of her shark brothers or sisters.

And she starts to notice that she isn't as fast and isn't as big.

So I am going to write, for my summary, the baby shark the baby shark notices that she is different, d-iff-er-ent different.

Okay, I am going to add a little bit more detail.

She can't Oh, I've got a lovely contraction there with can't I haven't written cannot, I've written can't.

She can't play the pebble game g-ame And we've got a split digraph there.

Fantastic.

I would like you to pause your video and draw your picture and write your summary.

Pause your video.

Excellent.

We are ready to move on to our solution.

How's my problem solved? Well, my problem is solved when the baby shark, who is actually a fish, makes a plan to go and swim with some fish and the starfish.

I'm going to draw the starfish over here, 'cause I will write about him in this section as well.

The starfish, just give my starfish a smiley face.

The starfish says, well, if you don't scare the fish, that means you're not a shark, that means you're a fish.

So my solution is, the baby shark finds.

Finds is a common exception word.

We cannot sound it out, we just need to learn it.

The baby shark finds, some fish friends.

And in my story.

She high fives with her oops, I'll put it in here with her fin.

She high fives with her fin.

So that is my solution.

I would like you to pause your video now and draw your picture for your solution and write your summary.

Excellent.

Now the ending of my story, the baby shark, who is actually a fish.

I wonder what she would call herself.

Now, would she call herself a baby shark or a baby fish? Maybe she wouldn't want to call herself anything.

She is friends with the fish and belongs with the fish, but she is also accepted by her shark family.

I'm going to draw some sharks here with a big smiley face.

So for my ending, I am going to say the baby, I am going to call her the baby shark.

But I can't call her the baby fish now as well.

The baby shark feels like l-ike split digraph.

The baby shark feels like she belongs.

Oops, squeezed my s in belongs to the fish and shark family.

Fantastic.

And there's another part that happens at the end of my story.

Her brothers and sisters want to learn the fin, I've got to squeeze this in, high five.

Fantastic.

So that is the ending of my story with my picture and my summary.

And I've really thought about my problem throughout my story and the learning for the world.

I would like you to pause your video and complete your picture for the ending, with your summary.

Fantastic learning everybody.

I am going to give you a round of applause.

We have got our boxing up plan and that is going to help us in the rest of the lessons for unit eight because we are going to write our recycled story.

I cannot wait to do that altogether.

See you soon.
