Hi everybody, and welcome to our lesson today.

Today we've got a pretty busy lesson because we are going to be planning and writing the closing paragraph of our letter.

But don't worry because the closing is actually very, very similar to the opening paragraph.

Let's get started.

Our learning objective today is to plan and write the closing paragraph of our letter.

This is lesson number 12 of 15.

And it's outcome number two.

In this lesson, you will need your exercise book or paper, your pen or pencil and your best learning brain.

You'll also need any writing that you have done so far for your letter.

So pause the video if you need to go and get anything.

Our agenda for learning today is to firstly look at the structure of our letter so far.

Then we're going to reread our writing that we've written so far.

Then we are going to look at the structure of a closing paragraph and Finally we are going to write the closing of our letter.

So let's look think about the structure of our letter so far.

We have written the opening.

And then we wrote paragraph one about housing and paragraph two was about jobs.

Both of those paragraphs formed as a main body of the letter.

And today we are going to write the closing.

Let's reread what we've written so far.

So I'm going to begin by writing by reading allied, my writing and we're going to read it all together.

And then finally, you're going to pause the video and reread what you have written.

Dear Ben, I'm sorry, it's taken me so long to write.

The past few weeks in England have been an adventure, but not exactly a good one.

The journey on the wind rush was cramped and uncomfortable because 493 passengers were crammed on the ship.

Lord Kitchener, who is one of my favourite singers was on board though, during the journey which lasted 30 days, many of us past the time by singing songs and sharing stories about what we hoped the motherland would be like.

Finally, we arrived at the Tilbury docks just outside London.

When we arrived, there were lots of reporters shouting and taking photographs.

Onboard the ship, people were feeling very merry and excited to arrive in the Motherland.

However, there was no accommodation for us.

Many of us spent our first few nights in England sleeping in an area shelter.

I'm disheartened to write that life in England is not what I expected.

I feel so homesick.

I suppose I better start from the beginning.

When we arrived at Tilbury docks, we were told that there wasn't enough housing for us so we'd be staying in an unused air rai shelter in Clapham Common.

In the tunnel it was overcrowded, stuffy and claustrophobic.

I didn't get a good night's sleep for weeks.

Eventually, I find somewhere to live a dilapidated single room in a house where it Other Jamaicans live.

We all share the same kitchen so mealtimes can get very crowded.

I feel very deflated and wistful when I think about how I've gone from having my own house in Kingston, to living in a single room.

There is hope though, a few friends and I are planning to collectively save our money using the pardoner scheme so we can buy a house soon.

Finding a job in England has been much more challenging than I expected.

I've applied to countless local hospitals but they've all rejected my qualifications.

It's very disappointing, disheartening and frustrating to be rejected, especially after all the hard work I had to do in order to gain those qualifications in Jamaica.

Fortunately, I finally found a job even though it was not what I had in mind.

I'm now in charge of maintenance on the hospital floors, keeping the wards clean, fixing any problems and making sure resources are stocked.

It's tiring work and the pay is minimal, but it is better than nothing.

So now I would like to pause the video so that you can reread your letter so far, and press play Once you are finished.

So now we're going to look at the structure of our closing paragraph.

Our closing is very similar to our opening paragraph.

So I've got an image here, which shows a reflection.

This is to show that the closing should be a reflection of the opening.

Here's a checklist for what we would use to structure our closing paragraph.

We will start with explaining what we're doing now.

Then looking to the future, what we hope will happen? Finally, we might ask some questions to the reader.

And then we will sign off our letter with our name.

So now we're going to read a model of a closing paragraph.

Well, for now, I'm relieved that I've got a job and I've nearly got a place to call home.

Honestly, though if I had known that life in England was going to be this challenging.

I don't think I would've Come.

Some people are talking about marching and protesting in the streets to try and get equal pay.

I think I might join them.

But I haven't decided yet.

Although really, I just hope that things will improve and I won't have to.

fingers crossed when I next write i will have better news.

Please send me news of home.

Hi everyone.

I really do miss the warm sunshine and the bright colours.

The weather in England is so bleak and dreary and comparison.

Sending all my love, Sonia.

So now your challenge.

I would like you to find where I have met the structure in this paragraph.

Pause the video while you do that.

Okay everyone, so what I am doing now can you find where I've explained what I'm doing now? For now I'm relieved that I've got a job and I've nearly got a place to call home.

Now what am i hopes for the future point to that sentence and say it right light Well done everyone.

So I just hope that things will improve.

And I won't have to talking about marching to get equal pay.

questions for the reader.

So this one's quite good because we can just skim and scan for question mark.

Hi is everyone and finally our sign off, sending all my love Sonia.

Now I would like you to pause the video while you write your closing paragraph and follow the structure.

You might want to reread your opening and take some of the points you made in your opening and to write your closing because remember, they reflect each other.

Pause the video while you do that, and I'll see you when you're ready.

Okay everybody, and now that brings us to the end of our lesson, so you have not completed your letter.

You've just finished writing the closing.

I hope you're feeling really proud of yourself because I'm really proud of the effort you've made to produce this wonderful piece of writing.

I'm looking forward to seeing it in our next lesson.
