Hello, and welcome to lesson 10 of the globalisation unit.
This is the final lesson in this unit, and it's going to be a bit different from other lessons.
What we're going to do in this lesson is we are going to write a script for your very own video, all about what impact globalisation has had on your life.
Now, at the end of this, you can just have your script and be happy with that, or if you're able to, you'll be able to use your script to then produce your own video, all about how, what impact globalisation has had on your life.
Let's look at the agenda for this lesson now.
So the first thing that we're going to look at in this lesson is what impact has the globalised fashion industry had on your life? Secondly, we'll be looking at what impact has the globalised food industry had on your life? And then lastly, we'll look at how has globalisation in general impacted your life? And then at the end of all that you'll have a nice script, which if you choose to, you can then record a video with.
Now for this lesson you'll need three things, an exercise book or paper, a pencil or a pen that's fine, and then most importantly, our brains.
So pause the video now to make sure you've got those things and then when you're ready to get started resume the video.
So in this first part of the lesson we are going to reflect on, which means we're going to think about what impact has the globalised fashion industry had on your life? And then we're going to use that to write the first part of our script about how has globalisation impacted your life.
So here's what we're going to do.
You are going to use the following questions to write the first section of your script.
So these are the questions.
How has the globalised fashion industry impacted your life? What do you think are the positive impacts of a globalised fashion industry? And what do you think are the negative impacts of a globalised fashion industry? And so the answers to those questions will form the structure of the first part of your script.
And to help you, I've put some words there in the word bank underneath me here that are some of the key things that we looked at when we explored the globalised fashion industry.
So I'm going to show you my answers and then show you how this can be part of a script.
So here are my written answers, in fact, I'm going to display them all now, and then I'll show you how I would use these as part of a script.
And I've even got a prop.
I've got my flowery shirt.
Remember the flowery shirt.
You know I had a lot of good times in this shirt, particularly in the globalisation unit.
So let's go through how I would use my answers to these questions for the script as a script.
So here we go.
So the globalised fashion industry has impacted my life because my favourite shirt, this shirt was produced 4,965 miles away in Bangladesh.
One positive impact of the globalised fashion industry is that it has created many jobs in developing countries, but one negative impact of the globalised fashion industry, is that many of the workers in developing countries have very low wages and cut.
So that is how you can use the answers to your, these questions as your script.
Okay.
So when answering these questions, obviously you just need to reflect on globalised, the globalised fashion industry and how that's impacted on your life, and then for questions, two or three, two and three, you can use a similar answer to mine or write something different based upon what we learned about the globalised fashion.
So it's now over to you.
So pause the video to complete your task and then resume once you're finished.
Okay.
You've now got section one of your script.
Let's move on to the next part of the lesson.
So it's time to start writing part two or section two of your script, which is going to be all about what impact has the globalised food industry had on your life? And I don't know about you, but the globalised food industry has had a big impact on my life for sure.
So we are going to use a very similar format to before.
So what you will do is use the following questions to write the first section of your script.
So your answers to the questions will be your script.
So here are my answers as an example for you.
So question number one, how has the globalised food industry impacted your life? Well, the globalised food industry has impacted my life because for breakfast, I ate a banana which has been imported from Columbia.
So a nice, simple statement about how the globalised food industry has impacted my life.
By the way, can you remember how far this banana has travelled to arrive into my household? It was 5,000 miles.
Nice one.
Well done.
Okay.
And then question two again, I'll just show you an example of how I went about this.
What do you think are the positive impacts of the globalised food industry? Can you remember? What are some of the positive impacts? What's that you're saying? varied diet's? Funny enough that's the one I mentioned.
One positive impact of the globalised food industry is people now have much more varied diets.
Okay.
And then lastly, what do you think are the negative impacts of the globalised food industry? What negative impacts can you remember? Well, funny, you should mention that, here what I wrote.
One negative impact of the globalised food industry is the powerful TNCs, what's the TNC? Transnational Corporation, good job, make it harder for smaller companies to compete.
So again, nice short explanations, and then those answers will form the basis of a script.
So again, I'll show you how you can use that as a script.
Here we go.
So the globalised food industry has impacted my life because for breakfast I ate a banana, which has been imported from Columbia.
One positive impact of the globalised food industry is people now have much more varied diets, but one negative impact of the globalised food industry is that powerful TNCs, which means Transnational Corporation make it hard for smaller companies to compete and cut.
So that's how you can use it as a script, and again, for questions, two and three, it's okay if you write about similar, positive and negative impacts, but try and challenge yourself, stretch yourself, see if you can write about something slightly different from what I did.
So it's over to you now, when you're ready, pause the video to complete your task and then resume once you're finished.
Okay.
Good job.
That means we now have section two or part two of our script.
Let's move on to producing the final parts of our script.
In this final part of the lesson, we're going to write section three, which is going to be the last part of our script.
And that's going to be all about how has globalisation impacted your life? And to do that again, we're going to use a similar format to the previous tasks, but the questions are slightly different this time.
So the first question I'd like you to answer is how has globalisation impacted your day to day life? And to do that, think about what we did in the previous lesson.
In the previous lesson, we listed our day to day activities and wrote about how globalisation impacts them.
So what I would do if I were you is to answer that question, I would just refer back to one of those examples and how globalisation impacted that.
For the second question, it's not a question per se, but it is a sentence that I would like you to complete.
So it says, overall globalisation has had positive effects such as, at that point, I want you to write down what you think the positive effects of globalisation have been.
That can be just one positive effect, but make sure you choose the positive effects that you think is most important.
And then the sentence goes on to say, however, globalisation has also had negative effects such as, and then what I'd like you to do is write down what do you think has been the most negative effect of globalisation? And you may remember we looked at this in a previous lesson when we produced the table around, has globalisation made the world a better place or a worse place.
And to help you answer that question, there's a word bank there with different ideas around whether globalisation has had positive effects or negative.
So just like before, I'll show you how I went about writing my script, using these questions.
So here is my answer to question number one.
I wrote globalisation has impacted my day to day life because it has led to increased migration, which means I have friends and family from all over the world.
That is a fantastic thing.
Isn't it? And then for the second part, the sentence then that you need to finish, here's what I wrote.
Overall globalisation has had positive effects, such as more ideas and technology being shared because of increasing connections, however, globalisation has also had negative effects such as the increasing carbon emissions that arise from the great distances that products now travel before they arrive in our shops.
Okay.
That's how I answered them.
Your answers are going to be obviously different because you've got different day to day life and different views, but hopefully you can see just short, sharp sentences, which you can again use as part of your script.
So when you are ready, pause the video to complete that task and then resume once you're finished.
So you now have three different sections of your script, which together make one whole fantastic script about how globalisation has impacted your life.
Now you've got two options now, you can finish the lesson there and be happy with a really job well done in producing that script.
Another option is though, is that if you are able to, you can then use that script to record your own video about how globalisation has impacted your life.
I'll leave that decision with you.
If you are finishing now though, well done on all the fantastic learning that you've done in this unit.
Before we finish though, please remember to do the following things.
Don't forget to write down three key things that you'll remember from this lesson and also don't forget to complete the exit quiz.
That's going to be a great way of seeing everything that you've learned about globalisation.
If you do decide to record your own video and you'd like to share your work, please ask your parent or carer to share your work on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter, tagging at @OakNational and hashtag LearnwithOak.
So once again, well done on all your fantastic learning and I hope you have a great rest of your day.
