Hi everyone! And welcome to a history lesson with me, Miss Emms. Let's get started and see what we're going to be doing today.
So, in today's lesson, this is our key question, How have toys changed? And this is lesson two of two, with me, Miss Emms. So hopefully, you have had a chance to watch lesson one.
We've already had one lesson where we thought about how toys have changed over the last 60 years.
And in today's lesson we're going to continue with that lesson question.
So, let's get started.
First things first, we're going to have a look at our star words, so our important words, that we need to be able to understand to access today's learning.
And then we're going to have a recap.
After the recap, we'll look at a timeline, and then we're going to think about non-electronic and electronic toys, okay.
After that it'll be time for an end of lesson quiz.
Where you get to see how much of today's learning you've been able to keep in your brain.
So, you're going to need three things in this lesson.
Some paper, a pencil and your brain.
Now your brain is already there, and I'm sure it's already working nice and hard.

Let's have a look at our star words.

Our first star word is toys.
So we're thinking about how toys have changed, and we already had a thing in the first lesson about plastic toys, wooden toys, and electronic toys.

Great.
Modern technology, your turn.
We're going to think about modern technology and the advancements of technology means that our toys now, are more developed than they were 60 years ago.
Electronic toys, your turn.
And non-electronic toys.
So electronic toys, toys that require electricity, and non-electronic toys, toys that do not require electricity.
Okay, so a quick music recap because hopefully, you watched the lessons on music and we learnt about the progression of the ways in which listen to music.
So with cassettes, CDs, MP3 players, and smartphones.
And then in lesson one of our toys lessons, we learned that generally toys, we have toys made from wood, from plastic and electronic toys.
And although we still have toys made from wood and toys made from plastic.
Generally toys made from wood came first, followed by toys made from plastic followed by electronic toys.
So quick recap task for you, can you arrange these toys from oldest to most modern? Oldest to most modern.

Hopefully you have the rocking horse as the oldest and then the legos and then finally the most modern, the electronic video game, the computer game as the most modern.

Okay, let's have a look at this timeline now.
So, today is 2020, and we are going to have a look at a time period of a hundred years.
So here is where Miss Emms was born, here is where my grandmother, my granny was born, and then we've got 1900 and 2000 and today, 2020.
So, the last 60 years.
So this is a period which we could ask our grandparents, parents, and carers about.
And we could as our grandparents, parents, and carers about which toys they used to play with, okay.
The last 60 years, so we've got 1960.
You can join in if you can.
1970 1980 1990 2000 2010 and then the year we're in at the moment, 2020.
Well done.
So, modern technology, means that toys have developed a lot.
What is the main difference between these toys? I want you to tell your screen, I think the main difference is, go, tell your screen.
Well, done.
So hopefully you said something like, I think the main difference is the Lego is made from plastic, it's non-electronic and the video game or the computer game is electronic, okay.
And this is to do with modern technology.
Have a look at how these computers have changed over time, as technology has advanced.
We've got a picture of a slightly older computer, and then a slightly more modern computer, but they don't really look like that anymore.
And then a picture of a laptop, much like the laptops that we use and that we have today.
So that shows you how computers have changed with modern technology and with technology advancing.
And this has changed the way that toys work as well.
So modern technology means that as technology has advanced, toys have changed.
Do you have any of these toys in your home? Let's have a look.
Have you ever played an electronic video game, or a computer game? You can nod your head if you have.
Do you have a ball in your home? Nod your head if you have, or maybe you've played with one at school.
What about a teddy bear or a soft toy? What about some blocks, perhaps Lego, plastic blocks or wooden blocks? What about a toy car? Great, well done.
And do you have any of these toys at home? Let's have a look at some more.
Perhaps a bucket, some buckets and spades? Perhaps you've got some trains or other cars? Maybe they're made from wood or plastic.
Perhaps you've seen, or maybe you've played some board games, like chess or this board game, here.
And perhaps you've got some plastic Lego blocks, in your home.
I wonder if you're starting to think about the main differences between these types of toys.
I wonder if you've heard or or played darts before? And what about these toys, Monopoly, a great board game.
Or this board game here.
Now, we're thinking about electronic games, and non-electronic games or toys.
Okay, so lets have a look at some non-electronic toys.
So we've got our wooden trucks or cards, a rocking horse, our Legos, our plastic trucks, our plastic figurines, Monopoly or any other board game, and the teddy bear.
These toys are all non-electronic.
These toys are all- Does that mean they require electricity or they don't? Tell your screen.
You're right, they don't require electricity.
Pause the video and I want you to complete this task.
You're going to look around your home.
Can you find two non-electronic toys? If you can, write them down.
So toys that don't require electricity.
Write them down on your piece of paper.
Great, well done.
I wonder what you've found? And now let's have a look at some electronic toys.
So we've got an electronic toy car or truck, video game, a game that you hold in your hand that requires electricity, we've got a console for a video game, a computer game on a screen, and a again a console for a video game.
So, these are some examples of electronic toys, okay.
I wonder, if you've got any electronic toys, in your home? Can you find, one electronic toy, in your home? Have a look around, see if you can find one, if you can't, then you can use one of the examples from this slide.
And I want you to write down the name of that electronic toy Off you go, pause now.
Well done.
Okay, now, we're going to do a sorting activity.
So what I want you to do, is I want you to draw, and label two circles, like this.
So one is going to have the title, non-electronic toys.
And the other is going to have the title electronic toys.
And remember, you're thinking, does it require electricity or not? Pause the video now and label your two circles, on your piece of paper.
Off you go.

Now, here are the toys.
I want you to sort the toys into the correct circle.
They're all jumbled up.
Some are electronic and some are not.
Some are non-electronic.
I want you to either draw they toy, or write the name of the toy in the correct circle.
So for example with the teddy bear, if you think the teddy bear is an electronic toy, you're going to draw a teddy or write the word teddy in the electronic toy circle.
If you think it's non-electronic you're going to draw the teddy bear or write the word teddy in the non-electronic toys circle.
