Welcome back.

In our previous lesson, we were finding the value of a set of two-pence coins.

Today we're going to be looking at finding the value of sets of different coins.

First, let's practise forward and backwards skip counting in tens.

It's going to be useful for today's lesson.

Zero, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100.

100, 90, 80, 70, 60, 50, 40, 30, 20, 10, zero.

Let's practise forward skip counting again using our fingers to keep track.

Are you ready? 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100.

Well done.

Now let's practise skip counting in fives.

Zero, five, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50.

And backwards, 50, 45, 40, 35, 30, 25, 20, 15, 10, five, zero.

Well done.

Now let's use our fingers again to skip count in fives this time.

Five, 10, 15, 20, 25, keep going, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50.

Well done.

So today I have some five-pence coins.

How can we work out the value of a set of five-pence coins? We can count in fives.

Remember, when I see a five-pence coin, I think five one-pennies.

Let's work out the value of this set of coins.

We'll start by counting in groups of five.

one five-penny, two five-pennies, three five-pennies, four five-pennies, five five-pennies, six five-pennies, seven five-pennies.

We've got seven five-pennies.

Let's count in fives.

Five, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35.

There are seven five-pennies Each coin has a value of 5p.

This is the 35p all together.

Say the stem sentences with me.

There are seven coins.

Each coin has a value of 5p.

This is 35p.

What is the value of this set of coins? Remember, I say five-pence, but I think five one-pennies.

Did you see there were 10 coins straight away? You might have had to count, but you might've seen that there was 10 straight away.

There are 10 coins.

Each coin has a value of 5p.

This is 50p.

How can we work out the value of this sets of coins? We can count in tens.

Remember, I see 10-pence, I think ten one-pennies.

Let's count.

One 10-penny, two 10-pennies, three 10-pennies, four 10-pennies, five 10-pennies, six 10-pennies, seven 10-pennies, eight 10-pennies, nine 10-pennies.

There are nine coins.

Let's count in tens.

10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90.

This is 90p all together.

Let's say the stem sentences.

There are nine coins.

Each coin has a value of 10p.

This is 90p.

Here's a little activity for you to do at home.

Why not set up a shop where every item can be paid for using five-pence coins.

Every item you need to label as a multiple of five.

I've used things around the house to make my shop, and I've just stuck little labels on them.
