Naming and ordering the months of the year.

Hello everybody, it's Miss Sidhu here and I'm going to be working with Mrs. Bramble too.

We are going to be learning all about the different months of the year.

I'm super excited.

Now let's get started.

In today's lesson, we are going to be learning all about the months of the year.

So learn and say the months of the year, order the months of the year, an independent task, and an end of lesson quiz.

So welcome to today's lesson.

You will need a pencil, some strips of paper, and glue to make a paper chain, and a calendar, either a paper copy or online.

In this lesson, you may need to pause the video and have a go at some of the activities yourself.

Now, here we go.

Within this lesson, we are learning to name and order the months of the year.

Hmm! How can we find out what month we are currently in? What could we use? I want you to pause the video and discuss what things we could use to find out what month we are in.

So pause and think, and then tell the person next to you.

How did you get on? Did you have some ideas? Hmm! Have you heard of a calendar? Well, a calendar is what helps us to know what the date is and what month of the year we are in.

Now let's have a look at a calendar.

This is a calendar.

It shows the months of the year and the days of the week.

What months have you heard of? Can you shout out any months that you know.

Some of you noticed lots of the months.

Hmm.

Well, I've heard of the month November because that's when my birthday month is.

And Mrs. Bramble, my friend, has heard of May because that's when her birthday month is.

You may want to pause the video and have a closer look at the calendar.

Look at the different months that you can see.

How about you? What's your birthday month? What month of the year is your birthday in? You may want to ask the people around you when their birthday month is.

Can you tell me what month of the year is your birthday in? Super! Now, let's see what we have next.

Hmm, which month is covered up? Can you tell me so I can hear which month you are saying? So which month is covered up? Well, I could hear so many of you; great work! You're right, the missing month is June.

Now let's try this one.

What month is missing now? Hmm, I think it's September.

Do you agree? Let's check together.

Hmm, what month comes after September? Hmm, so what month comes after September? Can you tell me? October, that's right.

You might have celebrated Halloween or seen somebody else celebrate it.

Now let's see what our task for today is.

For today's independent task, I want you to create a paper chain with the months of the year on in order or create your own monthly calendar.

You may want to decorate the pictures of events that happened in that month.

So for example, in November, on the piece of paper, I could write November and I could draw a cake for my birthday and you might want to do the same for your birthday.

Hope you have fun creating lots of paper chains.
