Reading and writing the time to o'clock and half past.

In today's learning, we will be learning all about telling the time, and reading and writing the time to o'clock and half past.

Hope you're super excited.

You might even want to get a clock to help you.

Now, let's get started.

Welcome to today's lesson.

In today's lesson we will be reading and telling the time to o'clock, and reading and telling the time to half past, an independent task to see what you have learned, and an end of lesson quiz to test you on everything you have learned in the lesson today.

Now, let's get started.

You will need a pencil and a paper, and also a clock.

You might want to make your own clock, or you can get your clock online, or you might have a clock around the house.

There are times in the video where you will have to pause and have a go at some of the activities yourself.

But first, let's see who can put the months of year in order.

Let's see.

Look at all the months and think about putting them in order.

I want you to pause the video and see if you can write them in order.

So pause the video.

Have a think, and then write them down.

How did you get on? Did you get them in the correct order? Let's say the order.

January, February, March and April, May, June, July and August, September, October, November, December.

These are the months of the year.

12 months.

Oh yeah.

You can pause the video if you want to check that you were correct.

And if you've made any mistakes, make sure you write them in the right order.

Now, let's get on to time.

Oh, let's have a look at these clocks.

What is the same and what is different? I want you to pause the video and take a closer look.

Pause and freeze, macaroni cheese.

How did you get on? Did you find out what is different on the clock faces.

One clock is showing a half past time, and the other clock is showing an o'clock time.

Can you point to the o'clock time? Remembering when we have o'clock, the minute hand is pointing to 12.

Excellent.

It is showing seven o'clock.

So we've got seven o'clock, because the minute hand is pointing to 12.

And the other clock is showing half past seven, because the minute hand is pointing to six.

Now, we're going to have a look at some other examples.

So here I've got a clock.

It is half past, because I know the minute hand is pointing to six.

And I know that it is half past three because the hour hand has just gone past three, but it hasn't got to four yet.

It is half past three.

Let's say it together, half past three.

This time I've got a different clock.

Do you think you can have a look at what time I've got now? The minute hand or the long hand is on 12, that means it is o'clock.

Hmm, what time could it be? Well, I heard lots of you say two o'clock.

That's correct.

Because the hour hand is on two, and the minute hand is on 12.

So that's two o'clock.

Well we've got another clock.

Let's see if you can tell the time on this clock.

Ticker tocker, ticker tocker.

What's the time? Can you tell me what the time is? Remember, the minute hand is on six, so think about is it half past or o'clock? And then we have the hour hand.

So ticker tocker, ticker tocker.

What's the time? Can you shout it out? Good job.

It is half past nine.

Well done.

Let's see if we're ready for our next activity.

Here we have a blank clock face.

What time will the clock face show? Let's find out.

Hmm, the minute hand is now pointing down.

Remember, when the minute hand points done, it means it is half past something, because it is half past the last hour.

Here we have the hour hand in red.

This is the hour hand, which is in between the nine and the 10.

That means the clock face is showing, half past nine.

Did you get the same? Good job.

Where do the clock hands need to be to show three o'clock? If you have a clock at home to use, I'd like you to show me three o'clock.

If not, you can draw your own and put that clock hands on to show three o'clock.

I want you to pause the video and have a go.

So pause.

Think about where the hands go for three o'clock, and then draw the clock showing three o'clock.

How did you get on? Can you show me your clock showing three o'clock? Wow, it does look like mine.

So the minute hand needs to be pointed to the number 12, and hour hands needs to be pointing to the number three.

Three o'clock.

Good job Hmm, now where do the clock hands again need to show half past 11? So what time does the clock need to show for half past 11? Again, use the clock that you have at home to create this time, or have a go at drawing your own.

I want you to pause the video to have a go at making the clock to show half past 11.

So pause, have a think and then draw your clock.

Can you show me your clocks showing the time half past 11? Wow, I am really impressed.

Well done.

Let's check it against mine.

Here we have the minute hand, which needs to be pointing to the number six.

And now we have the hour hand, which needs to be in between the number 11 and 12.

Super work everyone.

I think we're ready for the independent task today.

For your task, you need to read the time that needs to be on the clock, and then draw the clock hands to show the time.

So read the time and then you can make sure it's correct, and then you can write the time.

Remember, the minute hand is longer than the hour hand, so reading the time, and then writing the time.

So looking at the first one, it's got home time, so I want you to read the clock, and the time is it, then write it down.

Is it o'clock or half past? Then thinking about the numbers.

Then we have dinner time.

Mmh, yummy.

Look at what time the dinner time is on the clock, so read the clock, and then write the time.

Then look at playtime.

So what time is play time? Read the clock and then write the time.

Oh, then we have breakfast.

It might be the same time that you have breakfast.

So I want you to read the time on the clock, and then write it down.

Pause the video to complete your task, and then resume once you're finished.

Then we can have a look at the answers.

Here are the answers.

So home time, the time is half past three.

Dinner time.

Yum yum.

The time is five o'clock.

Playtime, the time is half past 10, and breakfast time, the time is seven o'clock.
