I sincerely I'm really looking forward to going through this lesson because it's a problem solving lesson.
So, we will be working together to think of what operations we need to use to solve the problem.
So, we need our thinking caps on and let's begin.
In today's lesson agenda, first, we'll be exploring a mathematical problem.
Then we'll go to let's explore task.
After that, we'll be finding the correct operation to solve problems. So that could be, addition or subtraction or division or multiplication.
Then we'll have our end of lesson quiz where you can test yourself.
You will need pencil, paper and a ruler for this lesson.
Of course be there and get your equipment if you need to.
Let's begin our problem solving lesson.
Here, we have Kayla.
Kayla has been given a letter from school about an upcoming trip to Canada.
She has football practise after school and the letter has got a bit muddy, making some of the writing illegible.
I'm sure we've all got something muddy like this before.
I'm going to read it out loud.
After I've read it out loud, I'm going to ask you some questions about the letter.
Listen, carefully.
They're all some splotches on letter.
So when we come across a splodge, I'll just have to say splodge.
Dear parents and carers, we are happy to inform you that year four be honest, going on a seven day trip to Canada.
Pupils will be flying from London, Gatwick to Montreal at 10:00am.
On the 13th of March, and returning on the 20th of March, back to London, Gatwick.
We will be going on a trip each day, but which pupils will take a packed lunch.
Breakfast and dinner will be eaten at the hotel.
The total cost of this exciting visit is each child will be splodge.
If you would splodge information about the price of this trip, details can be found on the back and then underneath, we have a table of each day and the activity plan.
So, day one, they plan to fly from London and arrive for lunch and unpack.
Day two, there'll be a tour of Montreal, then a trip to the Biodyne.
Next, jet ski tour for the lunch time in our lake.
Then, a coach to Niagara falls and a boat trip.
After that, an ice hockey game at the Bell Centre.
On day seven, pack up and final sleep before going to the airport early the next morning, and on day eight after breakfast, leave the airport and fly for Montreal back to London.
Wow, it sounds like a very exciting trip installed this year for children.

You might have said that the flights from London Gatwick to Montreal and the flight from Montreal to London, Gatwick will be a trouble cost.
It will need to be paid for because they are flying out and they are flying back.
The next question I'd like you to ask is how many nights they will stay at the hotel? Who needs to be there and explain you're thinking out loud to the screen.

We know that they left on the 13th of March and they returned on the 20th.
We need to find a difference.
My equation will be 20 take away13 which is equal to seven.
They were away for seven nights.
They will need to find the cost of seven nights at the hotel.

We know that they go on a trip every day with a packed lunch and not a hotel lunch.
Breakfast, and dinner is eaten at the hotel.
We know that breakfast, there are seven hotel meals, lunch, there are zero hotel meals because they are eating that packed lunch at lunch every day and dinner, there will be seven hotel meals because they are eating at the hotel every night for dinner.
True or false? The year fours will eat dinner at the hotel eight times during their stay.

You have a price breakdown here, and you have four different statements.
The first says, the total cost of the flight.
The second, the cost of the accommodation for the week, the third, the total cost of breakfast for the week and the final one, the cost of the jet ski tour per person in order for Kayla to work this out, what operation does she need? Add, subtract, times or divide to find these four costs.

So, you were asked to decide on an operation, to find the answer to the following, to define the total cost of the flights you would need to add.
You'd need to add the price from London, Gatwick to Montreal and from Montreal to London, Gatwick.
Next, you were asked to find the cost of the accommodation for the week.
Well, we know that the price per child is £34, but for the whole week, you need to multiply £34 by seven.
There are seven days in a week.
Next, you were asked to find the total cost of breakfast for the whole week, but we needed breakfast with the price per day for a child would be two pounds for the whole week.
We would need to multiply two by seven.
Finally, you were asked to find the cost of the jet ski tour per person or the jet ski tour was priced per group and it was 161, for seven people.
So, for person you would need to divide 161 divided by seven.
