We're going to be learning about tempo today.

Today we are going to learn to review our understanding of pulse.

To learn the words to describe tempo.

To identify tempo in songs.

And to move our body to the beat.

In this lesson you will need your body, give us a wave.

And a pencil and paper.

Before we do our learning today, we're going to do a quick recap of all the songs we've been learning.

So we've learned 'Hot Cross Buns', 'Swallows in the Sunshine', 'Harry Hare', 'Suzy Snail', and 'London Bridge is Falling Down'.

Let's start with Harry Hare.

Remember we need a tee, tee, tee, tee, tee, tee, tee, tee ♪ Ready, off I go ♪ ♪ Harry Hare is in a hurry ♪ ♪ Full of care and full of worry ♪ ♪ Harry Hare is late for tea ♪ ♪ What a naughty hare is he ♪ Fantastic, which song should I do next? Maybe I'll try the 'Swallows in the Sunshine' song.

♪ Ready, off I go ♪ ♪ Way up high ♪ ♪ Swallows fly ♪ ♪ Divin', racin', sunbeam chasin', ♪ ♪ Way up high ♪ Which one should we sing next? Hmm? I wonder.

Which one do you want to sing next? Let's go with 'Hot Cross Buns'.

Let's try 'Slow Coat Suzy'.

Remember we need a tah, tah, holds at the beginning and then we swap to our tee, tee, tee, tee, tee, tee, tee tee, tee, tee, tee, tee, tee, tee, pause.

Are you ready? ♪ Ready, off I go ♪ ♪ Slow coach Suzy ♪ ♪ Late for school each day ♪ ♪ Til she bought a ♪ ♪ Scooter, bright and gay.

♪ ♪ Now she races by ♪ ♪ As the others cry ♪ ♪ Wait for us please ♪ ♪ Speedy Suzy snail ♪ Fantastic.

Our last song is 'London Bridge is Falling Down'.

Do you remember how we clapped on the first beat of every line to show that those were the strong pulses? Let's try that again now.

♪ Ready, off I go ♪ ♪ London bridge is falling down ♪ ♪ Falling down, falling down ♪ ♪ London bridge is falling down ♪ ♪ My fair lady ♪ What is the pulse in music? Is it the words of the song? The instruments used in the music? The heartbeat of the music? Or the person singing the song? That's right, it's the heartbeat of the music.

Which pattern matches 'Hot Cross Buns' best? Is it the first one, or the second one? That's right, it's the first one.

Do you remember that this is also the pattern for 'Swallows in the Sunshine'? Which beat is usually the strongest beat in the bar? Is it beat one, beat two, beat three, or beat four? That's right, it's beat one.

Do you remember at the beginning of this lesson, we were singing the 'Welcome Everybody' song really slow and really fast? And I said we were changing something.

Do you remember what word I said? That's right, tempo.

We were changing the tempo.

Tempo means speed.

It's a musical term for how fast or slow the music is going.

There are two more musical words we are going to learn today The first one is presto, which means very fast.

And the second one is adagio, which means slow.

So we've learned today that tempo is the speed.

Presto means very fast, and adagio means slow.

Did you get them all right? Remember, tempo is how fast or slow the pulse of the music is going.

Presto means very fast.

And adagio means slow.

We already know some fast songs like Harry Hare and Suzy Snail.

But we don't really know very many slow songs.

I'm going to sing one to you today.

This is a lullaby.

And I've got my duck here who's very tired, so I'm going to try and get him to sleep.

You listen and then maybe you can rock your teddy to sleep along, too.

Is your teddy asleep too? Let me teach you the song one line at a time.

If I do this, it's my turn.

And if I do this, it's your turn.

It's really important that we sing that nice and slowly.

Because if we sung it too fast, and we were rockin' our baby, they wouldn't really fall asleep, would they? Is your teddy asleep now? Shh.

That's right, 'Harry Hare' is presto.

That means very fast.

And 'Hush Little Baby' is adagio.

That means slow.

Today we have reviewed our understanding of pulse.

Learned the musical terminology of tempo.

Identified tempo in songs.

And moved our body to the beat.
