I've got my friend Higgety Tiggety here, and he wants to know your name.
He's going to sing his song to you, and you're going to sing it back to him.
I'm going to go first to show you what I mean.
♪ Higgety Tiggety Bumblebee ♪ ♪ Can you sing your name to me ♪ ♪ My name's Miss Glover ♪ What's your name? Great, let's try.
♪ Higgety Tiggety Bumblebee ♪ ♪ Can you sing your name to me ♪ Very good, let's try one more time.
♪ Higgety Tiggety Bumblebee ♪ ♪ Can you sing your name to me ♪ Well done, you.
Now we're ready to do some learning.
Today we are going to learn to remind ourselves what pulse is, to create a short pulse pattern using our bodies, to find patterns in music, and to see how patterns fit into the pulse.
In this lesson you will need your body.
Give us a wave.
Your voice.
Say hello! A teddy or a toy.
A pencil and paper.
Pause the video to go and get a teddy or a toy, a pencil and some paper now.
You can press play again once you're finished.
Can you remember what is the pulse in music? Is it the heartbeat of the music, the instruments used in the music, the words of the song, or the person singing the song? That's right, it's the heartbeat of the music.
Well done! Can you see the pattern on the screen? It goes clap, space, clap, space.
We're going to fill those spaces with actions today.
I'm going to fill them with a click.
You might fill them by tapping your head, or your shoulders, or your knees, even by stamping your feet.
It's really up to you.
So my pattern goes like this.
Clap, click, clap, click, clap, click, clap, click, and it keeps going on like that.
How does your pattern go? Great! Now we can try them together.
After four, remember our claps will come together, but my clicks might come with your taps on the head or your stamps of your feet.
As long as our claps are together, we're doing a great job.
Let's try.
One, two, three, four.
Good job, well done.
Now we're going to continue doing our pattern but at the same time as we sing our song.
And our song from last time was "Row, Row, Row Your Boat," so that's the song we're going to sing today.
So after four we're going to start our pattern.
And then I'll count us in to sing.
Are you ready? One, two, three, four.
♪ Ready ♪ ♪ Row, row, row your boat ♪ ♪ Gently down the stream ♪ ♪ Merrily, merrily, ♪ ♪ Merrily, merrily ♪ ♪ Life is but a dream ♪ Well done, you.

♪ Ready ♪ ♪ Row, row, row your boat ♪ ♪ Gently down the stream ♪ ♪ Merrily, merrily, ♪ ♪ Merrily, merrily ♪ ♪ Life is but a dream ♪ See if you can practise doing that pattern while you're singing a different song.
You might try singing "Hot Cross Buns" or "Happy Birthday," whichever song you like.
Try keeping the pulse really, really steady while you're doing your pattern.
Our next pattern is space, space, clap, clap.
Space, space, clap, clap.
What are you going to fill your spaces with this time? I might tap my knees this time, Why don't you try something different? Great.
I'm going to go first and show you my pattern.
After that, you can show me yours.
One, two, three, four.
Your turn.
After four show me your pattern.
One, two, three, four.
Great.
Now let's do it together.
Remember, our claps are going to come together, but our other actions might be different, and that's fine.
One, two, three, four.
Great job.
This time we're going to sing "Row, Row, Row Your Boat" at the same time.
And after that, maybe you could have a go at singing a different song while you keep your pattern going.
So after four we'll come in with our claps and actions, and after that, I will begin us with our song.
One, two, three, four.

Now you can have a go at doing your pattern and singing a different song.
Pause the video and use your paper to create your own pattern.
You can do this by drawing four bars, and under each one, writing and drawing an action.
Then you can try singing along to it.
Have a go now.
You can press play again once your finished.
I've got a new song for us to learn today.
This is called "Swallows in the Sunshine." And it goes like this.
♪ Way up high ♪ ♪ Swallows fly ♪ ♪ Diving, racing, sunbeam chasing ♪ ♪ Way up high ♪ It's about some birds that fly around in the sky diving and around making shapes and patterns.

Here you can see the pattern.
Which pattern matches 'Swallows' best? Is it the first one? Or the second one? That's right, it's the first one.
Well done.
Now it's time to listen.
This piece of music is from Russian dance.
It's from a ballet called "The Nutcracker," and it's by a composer called Tchaikovsky.
See how many different ways you can move your body in time to the beat.
You might clap your hands, stomp your feet, or click your fingers.
