Hi everybody, my name is Mr. Palekar.

And welcome back for lesson 3 of music.

Today we are going to be exploring two beats in a bar.

In today's lesson, we are going to recap our song "Crazy Glue" from last lesson.

That was in four beats in a bar.

We are going to explore and listen to music which has two beats in a bar.

We're going to pat to the pulse with the music that has two beats in a bar.

And we are going to learn a brand new piece that also uses two beats in a bar.

So what will you need? You will need some headphones if you have some, if you don't have any, don't panic.

See if you can find somewhere where you can concentrate and you won't be disturbed.

You'll also need a pencil and some paper if you would like to make notes.

You'll need your hands.

And one more thing, one what additional thing that you need this week, is a plastic cup or beaker.

So I've got my bamboo one here.

If you don't have one that's made out of wood, you can perhaps use somethings that's made out of plastic.

Try not to get something that's going to break.

So if you have like an old gravy pot or plastic pot or cardboard pot, that'd be perfect.

That is for our song a little bit later.

Pause the video now if you need to get your cup or beaker and then when you're ready to continue click play.

Let's start with "Crazy Glue" from last lesson.

It sounds like this.

If you remember very very well, that part of the song is called our chorus.

It happens more than once in our song.

From last lesson, we were counting the pulse.

A clap, pat, pat, pat, clap, pat, pat, pat, clap, pat, pat, pat, clap, pat, pat, pat.

Our clap was on the down beat, the very first beat of every single bar.

Now remember, we have four beats in a bar.

And we know this because we have a number four at the beginning of our music.

That is called a time signature.

And that four, that time signature, tells us how many beats they're going to be in each bar.

How many beats in each bar.

That's what a time signature is.

Let's see if we can try our clap, tap, tap, tap.

That down arrow is for a tap.

Time signatures, two beats in a bar.

Before us going to time signatures, a quick pop quiz.

It's already been said in this video.

The question is, what does a time signature tell us? Is it; option one, the volume? Option two, the bar lines? Option three, how many beats there are in every bar? Or option four, the speed? I'll give you five seconds.

Four, three, two, one, zero.

The correct answer is a time signature tells us how many beats there are in a bar.

Great job if you remembered correctly.

If you didn't, don't panic, this is how we learn.

This lesson, we are going to be looking at two beats in a bar.

Can you remember the quick way of showing this in a piece of music? Yes we could write and draw heartbeats above every single bar, every single box of music.

The quick way is absolutely to draw a number at the very start of our music.

Today, because we are working with two beats in a bar, that's what's going to go at the very start of our music.

Let's listen to some music that has two beats in a bar.

When you got the pulse, see if you can tap the pulse-- tap the downbeat, that first beat of every bar a little bit harder.

I'm going to clap the downbeat.

And on my weakest second beat, I'm going to pat up my chest.

So it'll go one, two, one, two, one, two, one, two.

Here we go.

One, two, one, two, one, two, one, two, one, two, one, two, one, two, one, two, one, two, one, two, one, two, one, two, one, two.

There is a bonus track as well.

It sounds like this.
