- Hi everybody, it's Mr. Palekar and welcome back to our last lesson of the unit, Lesson 6.

This unit is all about recognising different time-signatures, the time signatures that you have learned over the last few weeks.

Let's take a look at our lesson today.

In today's lesson, we are going to: Recap and sing Hullabaloo Belay which has got 6 beats in a bar.

We are going to do our time-signature quiz where you are going to tell me how many beats are there in every single bar.

And there is Mr. Palekar's Musical Challenge called Dipidu.

Don't worry about what Dipidu is just now, you'll find out a little bit later.

Like always, you need to make sure that you have some headphones if you have some, if you don't don't panic.

It is not a problem, just make sure you are somewhere where you can concentrate, where it is quiet where you can focus and you won't get distracted.

You will need a pencil and some paper if you would like to take some notes.

And finally, you definitely need your hands today, ah, your chest, your body, and your voice.

Let's get started with Hullabaloo Belay, 6 beats in a bar.

Last lesson, we were counting in 6 beats in a bar, we were clapping on the down-beat, and clicking on beat four.

Which is not as weak as the other bit- beats, but not as strong as our down beats.

So, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.

And counting all the way through.

In this quiz, you need to listen to the piece of music.

It might be a piece of music that you've heard before.

And then you can tap the pulse, once we've found the pulse.

Once you've found the pulse, you need to find the down-beat, or the strongest beat.

So the, Remember the down-beat is the number 1.

That means it would be 3 beats in a bar, that's if we were listening to a piece that had 3 beats in a bar.

What time signature is this song? As soon as you've found that pulse, see if you can figure out where the downbeat is, and then count how many beats there are in between each of the downbeats.

Okay so let's count the beats Here we go now, 1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, 3, 4, So what's the answer? How many beats in a bar? What is our time signature going to be? It is of course, 4 beats in a bar.

Music number 2, What time signature is this song? How many beats in a bar? Let's see if you can find the pulse and the downbeat by yourself.

How many beats in there? In, in that piece of music.

For every single bar, which one? It's going to be, 2 beats in a bar.

Our next piece of music, here we go.

What time signature is this song? Here we go, Have to get the pulse.

How many beats in a bar? Of course if you were counting correctly, it was 6 beats in a bar.

Music number 4, What time signature is this song? Remember to find the pulse first and then find the downbeat, the strongest beat.

One, One, One, One.

That was 3 beats in a bar, a huge well done.

Pause the video now and you can rewind and take the quiz once more.

Make sure that you count aloud and clap the beats once you have found the pulse.

Then you can write down or say aloud how many beats there are in each bar.

It is time for Mr. Palekar's musical challenge, which is called Dipidu.

As you can see, its going to involve changing time signatures.

Don't panic, but this song has got 2 different time signatures.

Sometimes it uses 3 beats in a bar and sometimes it uses 2 beats in a bar.

When we're changing between time signatures, it's really important that we keep that beat, that pulse, all the way through, nice and even.

It doesn't stop.

But we do need to make sure that we are thinking, and counting the correct numbers.

If you want to pat the pulse on a part of your body without thinking about whether it's a clap, or a click, or a pat that's absolutely fine.
