Hi everybody.

My name is Mr. Palica and welcome back to our music lessons.

This unit is all about rhythm and in this lesson, we're going to be looking at some basic notation.

In this lesson, we are going to recap our chant Queen Caroline.

We are going to explore some new notes.

We're going to read some rhythms and we are going to learn a new song with its rhythm as well.

For this lesson, you will need some headphones, but if you don't have any headphones, don't panic.

Just make sure you find somewhere quiet, where you won't be disturbed and where you can concentrate.

You'll need a pencil and paper if you have some.

And it's just so you can make some notes if you would like to, and you will need your hands and your bodies so that we can tap along to the pulse and to the rhythm.

let's get started.

Queen Caroline.

Last lesson, we started to learn a chant called Queen Caroline and it sounds like this Queen queen Caroline washed her hair in turpentine Turpentine made it shine.

Queen queen Caroline.

You might remember that turpentine is oil and the Queen Caroline was washing her hair in oil to make it shiny.

Hmm, bit strange.

Queen queen Caroline.

My turn, and then your turn.

Queen queen Caroline.

Queen queen Caroline.

Washed her hair in turpentine.

Washed her hair in turpentine.

Turpentine made it shine.

Turpentine made it shine.

Queen queen Caroline.

Queen queen Caroline.

Good.

Let's tap the pulse.

You can tap it on your knee, on your shoulder, on your chest.

It doesn't matter.

You can just tap along with me.

Let's say the chant, ready? One, two, off we go.

Queen queen Caroline washed her hair turpentine.

Turpentine made it shine.

Queen queen Caroline.

One more time off we go.

Queen queen Caroline washed her hair turpentine Turpentine made it shine.

Queen queen Caroline Great, we found the pulse and we were patting the pulse of the chant all the way through.

Good job.

Let's take a look at the rhythm.

Now we've got our heartbeats everywhere and you'll notice that every single bar, every little box has got four heartbeats, four beats in a bar.

Let's take a look at the our rhythms Ah, okay, so we've got a.

can you remember what kind of note they are? Brilliant.

So we've got a ta, another ta, a ti-ti and a another ta.

Remember we say at first and then we clap and say it and then we just clap.

Let's say it one, two, and off we go ta, ta, ti-ti, ta.

Good, one more time.

Ready off we go.

Ta, ta, ti-ti, ta.

Clap and say it, off we go.

Ta, ta, ti-ti, ta.

One more time, ready? OF we go, ta, ta, ti-ti, ta.

Clap out loud and say in your head.

last time ready off we go Well done.

Let's add on another bar at, let's see what's next.

Remember we say the first.

One, two, and off we go.

Ti-ti, ti-ti, ti-ti, ta.

Clap and say it, off we go.

Ti-ti, ti-ti, ti-ti, ta.

One more time, off we go.

Ti-ti, ti-ti, ti-ti, ta.

Clap it by itself.

Ready, off we go.

Very good.

Let's see if we can do the whole top line.

Here we go.

Bars one and two.

Say it first.

One, two and off we go.

Ta, ta, ti-ti, ta.

Ti-ti, ti-ti, ti-ti, ta.

Clap and say it, off we go.

Ta ta ti-ti ta.

Ti-ti ti-ti ti-ti ta clap it by itself.

Ready, off we go.

Good job.

Let's see what's in the next bar.

Do you remember we say it first? Have you figured out what the notes are? Four, three, two, one.

Yeah, it's a ti-ti ta ti-ti ta Say it, ready, off we go.

Ti-ti ta ti-ti ta clap and say it, off we go.

Ti-ti ta ti-ti ta Just your claps, ready, off we go.

Very good.

Let's see what's in that last fourth bar.

Let's say the first one, two, ready, off we go ta ta ti-ti ta One more time.

Just say off we go ta ta ti-ti ta clap and say it, off we go.

ta ta ti-ti ta Clap it by itself, off we go.

Good job.

Let's see if you can do the lower line, the bottom line.

So that's bars three and four all the way across the bottom.

Starting with ti-ti ta ti-ti ta Say it first, just by itself.

One, two, ready, off we go.

ti-ti ta ti-ti ta ta ta ti-ti ta Well done.

Let's add the claps, off we go.

Ti-ti ta ti-ti ta ta ta ti-ti ta Well done.

Just the claps, off we go.

Super Job.

Let's do it from the very top.

From the very, very beginning.

Remember we were reading it just like we read a book.

We get to the end of a line.

And then we go back down to the next line and go all the way through.

Here we go.

We just going to say at first.

one, two, and off we go, ta ta ti-ti ta ti-ti ti-ti ti-ti ta ti-ti ta ti-ti ta ta ta ti-ti ta Well done with your claps, ready, off we go ta ta ti-ti ta ti-ti ti-ti ti-ti ta ti-ti ta ti-ti ta ta ta ti-ti ta Now just your claps, say it in your head.

Great job.

Now let's take those words away.

Let's take those rhythms syllable as I like to call them, away, let's take these words away and then see if we can remember it.

Let's see if we can just say the words by looking at each of the notes.

One more time.

Ready, steady.

Oh, we are going to clap and say it at the same time.

Here we go, ready? Steady, one, two and up we go.

Ta ta ti-ti ta ti-ti ti-ti ti-ti ta ti-ti ta ti-ti ta ta ta ti-ti ta Now the last time we're going to do it one more time, but we're just going to, we're going to say it in out head and we are going to clap out loud.

So we're going to say it in our head.

And we're going to clap it by itself.

One, two, and off we go.

Well done.

Finally, we need to add in our words, from our chant.

There we go.

Zooming in, here we go.

This time, we're going to clap the rhythm and say the chant at the same time.

Hands at the ready.

One, two, and up we go Queen queen Caroline washed her hair in turpentine Turpentine made it shine.

Queen queen Caroline.

One more time.

Ready, up we go Queen queen Caroline washed her hair in turpentine.

Turpentine made it shine.

Queen queen Caroline.

Great job, well done.

Pause the video now so you can practise clapping the rhythm for queen Caroline then chant Queen Caroline and clap the rhythm at the same time.

If you would like to, rewind 20 seconds and let's practise one more time.

A new musical note.

Well, let's take a look at the notes that we know already.

Well from last lesson, we know that there is a ta and a ta lasts for one beat.

One beats, one, two, three four, ta.

One, two, three four, ta.

Join in when you can.

Ta, two, three, four.

Ta, two, three and stop.

Let's do four tile in a row, So we are going to have four beats.

And on each of those beats we're going to have a ta.

Ta ta ta ta.

Ready, one, two, three, here we go.

Ta ta ta ta Very good.

We've also got a ti-ti which has joined at the top, ti-ti and together they make up one beat as well.

So one, two, three, four.

Ti-ti, ready, join in.

Ti-ti, one more time.

Here we go.

Ti-ti, two, three, four, ti-ti, two, three, and stop.

Let's do four ti-ti in a row.

One, two, three.

Here we go.

Ti-ti ti-ti ti-ti ti-ti One more time off we go.

Ti-ti ti-ti ti-ti ti-ti last time ready off we go.

Ti-ti ti-ti ti-ti ti-ti Great job.

Are you ready for our new notes? It's this.

It's like a ta but there's something different about it what's different? Yeah, absolutely.

It's called an empty circle in the middle.

It's called a ta-ah and it lasts for two beats.

It sounds like this.

Ta-ah.

My turn then your turn.

Ta-ah.

Ready, your turn.

Ta-ah.

Very good.

Let's put it into our beats.

One, two, three, four, ta-ah.

three, four, ta-ah three, four, join in with me.

Here we go.

Ta-ah three, four, ta-ah three, four My turn, I'm getting to do two ta-ahs which will add up to four beats because one ta-ah lasts for two beats.

Ta-ah, ta-ah.

Ready, one, two, three, four, ta-ah, ta-ah Join in with me.

Ready, here we go.

Ta-ah, ta-ah.

Great job.

Let's see if we can put some ta-ahs into some rhythms and read some new rhythm.

Now remember our rules.

We have four beats in a bar because we are doing four beat rhythms. Here's our first rhythm.

We are going to say it first.

What are these types of notes? We know that they're all the same.

They are all tas.

Let's say it first, one, two and of we go ta ta ta ta clap and say it, off we go ta ta ta ta clap it by itself Ready, off we go.

Great job.

So that is our rhythm and we need to make sure we follow our steps.

So we say the notes.

Then we clap and say them together.

And then we just clap by ourselves.

So we just clap and we say it in our minds.

We're ready for the next rhythm.

Here we go.

I recognise this from our last lesson.

And see if you remember one two and off we go.

Ti-ti ti-ti ti-ti ti-ti one more time.

Say it by itself.

Ti-ti ti-ti ti-ti ti-ti Good.

They are all ti-tis.

Let's cop and say it one, two, ready, off we go ti-ti ti-ti ti-ti ti-ti One more time, off we go.

Ti-ti ti-ti ti-ti ti-ti Clap it by itself, but say it in your head.

last time, ready, off we go.

Ti-ti ti-ti ti-ti ti-ti Great, nice and easy.

Let's do our next one.

Ooh, these are our ta-ahs.

They last for two beats each.

You can see the arrow going through and over to the next beat as well.

Ta-ah, ta-ah ready, one, two, three here we go.

Ta-ah, ta-ah.

One more time off we go.

Ta-ah, ta-ah.

Clap and say it off we go.

Ta-ah ta-ah One more time.

Ready off we go.

Ta-ah ta-ah We're going to clap and push Clap and push.

One more time.

Ready off we go.

Ta-ah ta-ah Good.

Now we're going to clap and say it.

One, two, off we go Say in your head but clap it out loud.

One more time, three, four.

Very nice, let's try a new rhythm.

Okay, so we've got our.

that's right, we've got our tas.

What's that last two notes together like this? Yeah, brilliant, they are our ti-ti.

Ready, say it by itself off we go ta ta ta ti-ti.

Clap and say it, off we go, ta ta ta ti-ti clap it by itself, ready off we go Great job.

Hmm, okay.

Something's a little bit different here.

So we know that we have our tas and we now have our ti-tis ta ta ti-ti ti-ti Let's see if we can try it.

Say it, ready off we go.

Ta ta ti-ti ti-ti one more time, ready off we go.

Ta ta ti-ti ti-ti Very good, clap and say it, off we go ta ta ti-ti ti-ti One more time off we go ta ta ti-ti ti-ti clap it by itself One more time, ready off we go.

Brilliant let's add in our next rhythm.

Ooh, we've got a new note.

Can you remember what it was called? A ta-ah.

What are those first two notes? Yeah, brilliant they are our ta.

Let's say it first, one, two and off we go.

Ta ta ta-ah One more time say it by itself.

Ta ta ta-ah Very nice, clap and say it.

Ta ta ta-ah One more time off you go ta ta ta-ah Clap it by itself, ready? One more time off we go.

Good, you've got the process.

We're going to do those steps a little bit faster now, here we go.

New rhythm.

Oh, this is nice and easy.

You've got this, it is a ta-ah ta ta.

Let's say it.

One, two, three.

Here we go.

ta-ah ta ta Clap and say it, off we go.

Ta-ah ta ta clap it by itself.

Ready off we go.

Very nice.

One more time.

Very good.

New rhythm.

A little bit harder.

Say it first, ready, off we go ta-ah ti-ti ti-ti one more time off we go ta-ah ti-ti ti-ti clap and say it here we go ta-ah ti-ti ti-ti last time, ready, here we go ta-ah ti-ti ti-ti Clap it by itself off we go Last time ready off we go.

Whoa, what did I get wrong? I slowed down at the end.

Can we do that one more time? One, two, ready off we go.

Ta-ah ti-ti ti-ti Clap it by itself.

Ready off we go.

Much better.

Our next rhythm? It looks a bit backwards.

Say it, ready? Off we go.

Ti-ti ti-ti ta-ah clap and say it off we go ti-ti ti-ti ta-ah clap it by itself ready off we go One more time, ready off we go.

Very well done.

Only a few more rhythms. Here we go.

I'm not going to put the arrow on this one.

I want to see if you can remember that that ta-ah stretches for two beats one two say it off we go ta ti-ti ta-ah Very nice now clap and say it ta ti-ti ta-ah Clap it by itself off we go one more time off we go.

Very nice.

Is it getting a bit harder? What is this? one, two off we go.

Ta-ah ta ti-ti clap and say it off we go ta-ah ta ti-ti clap it by itself off we go.

One more time off we go.

Very good.

Pause the video now so that you can try clapping the rhythms one more time.
