♪ Hello everyone, ♪ welcome to lesson six.
The last one in this unit, all about rhythm improvising.
We're going to be recapping a lot of activities, that we have done in this unit to make sure we know how all the songs go.
And we're going to have a practise at doing all of our improvising patterns.
So let's see what you can remember.
Let's go! In lesson six, we are going to be singing songs, We have learnt in this unit.
we're going to be practising rhythm reading.
We're going to improvise response patterns and we're going to perform or Samba piece all the way through with breaks.
In this lesson, you will need your hands, brain and a musical instrument.
Remember if you don't have one at home, that is absolutely fine.
You can see if you can find something similar to assemble sound.
For example, you could use pots and pans and a wooden spoon or you could simply clap a rhythm.
This is an action body percussion game, where you are going to do a repeated pattern over four beats, you're only allowed to start doing my pattern when I say the words switch, okay.
So that means you're actually going to be behind me, because I will do it, then I will pass it over to you.
Let's have a practise and see how we get on.
The other me on the screen is you okay? So if you get stuck, you can watch that version.
Right? My turn.
Here's my pulse.
one, two my turn only.
So you're going to take this when I say switch, okay copy me.
Switch! So you should be clapping right now.
This is your next action.
Switch! Switch! Switch! Switch! you should be stomping Stop! Well done! This time the helper video has gone.
So you need to make sure you're really watching me carefully.

Switch! Switch! Switch! Switch! Switch! Switch! Switch! Hope you're still clapping.
Switch! Well done, did you manage to keep one action behind me? It's tricky, isn't it.
Activity one singing the songs we have learnt in this unit? Can we remember the song "Step back".
It's been a while, hasn't it? In this lesson, we are going to recap, everything we have been learning this unit.
So we are going to do it once, saying step back, baby, as the response.
And then the second time I would like you to improvise a rhythmic pattern.
You can use your hands or you can use body percussion, something like this, ♪ not last night, but the night before.

Activity 2: To practise rhythm reading.
Right, we're going to have a go at clapping some rhythms now.
We're going to do this, my turn, your turn.
And we're going to use a backing track to help us keep a steady pulse.
Let's have a go at number one.
I will clap it first.
And then when my hands go out, I want you to clap it back.
Are we ready? Let's have a go see if we can do it.
My turn.
one, two, three, four Number two my turn! Three! Number four! Did you manage to cut all of them correctly? We'll have one more go.
My turn, your turn.
And then what we're going to try and do is we're going to go straight through one, two, three, and four without stopping.
Okay.
One more time my turn your turn.
Number two! Three! Four! Well done, all right, are we ready? We're going to go number one, two, three, and four, straight through.
No, my turn, your turn.
I'll count us in and then let's see if we can get all the way to the end.
Here we go.
Starting with number one.
One, two, three, four.
Two! Three! Four! So do you manage it? Well done if you managed to get all the way to the end without any mistakes.
Remember if you want to practise this again, feel free.
Rewind the video and have another practise.
Okay, we're going to have a go at layering the four rhythms we have learned now in each of these boxes, we are going to all do a different rhythm.
I'm number one.
And then we've got number two, three, and four.
You choose a rhythm now and when the box joins in, I want you to clap along with your chosen rhythm.
Are we ready? Number one is starting then number two.

In lesson five we learnt the song Halima Pakasholo and we have a go at creating a rhythmic accompaniment underneath.
Let's have another go at doing it.

I am going to do another call and response idea, but this time I'm going to ask you a question.
For example, I might go, what are you having for dinner tonight? And you might answer.
Fish and chips And we're going to improvise that it's going to be straight away.

Now I'm going to put a backing on and I'm going to say what we're going to be doing as we're going along, okay? Trying out all three different techniques.
So the first thing we're going to do is we're going to have a go at starting on different beats in the bar.
Okay so I'll clap a rhythm and I want you to see if you can start on two, three or four okay? My turn Yeah.

Right this time, what we're going to do is you're going to do a call and response.
I'm going to an example first, then I'm going to leave a gap for you to have a go, okay? So my turn first and then you're going to have a gap, okay.
So here's my go.

we're going to try and do the offbeat.

Now, using that idea add some improvisation.

To finish this unit, we are going to do a final Samba performance.
We're going to have all of our layers of different rhythms and our two breaks and our ending.
Let's see if you can remember what they all are.
We're going to go straight in.
You can choose one of the rhythms. A quick little hint here.
We had one, two, three, four, or one, two, three, four, five, the Samba or High low High alow low or one, two, three, four I love Samba I'm not going to tell you what the breaks are.
