Hi everyone my name is Mr. Polica and welcome to Music.
This lesson, we are going to be looking at completing our cup game.
We are going to explore different body percussion actions and learn about the body percussion basics.
And we are going to begin to learn our very own body percussion piece.
For this lesson you will need some headphones if you have some, don't panic if you don't.
Just make sure that you are somewhere quiet, where you can concentrate and where you won't be disturbed.
You'll need your hands and your bodies because we are going to be doing body percussion, and you will need a plastic cup or beaker.
Now I've got my cup here.
Just like last lesson make sure that it's something that is not going to break and if you're not sure, make sure that you ask a parent, carer or another adult, please.
Let's get started with the cup game.
So I have my plastic cup here.
It's just in front of me.
If you need to pause the video now so that you can go and get yours, go and do that now.
Otherwise let's continue.
As a reminder, a chance goes like this so I'm going to leave my cup in front, my turn first.
clap, clap, tap, tap, tap, clap up, down.
Clap.
Now turn it all around.
Let's try it together.
Ready? One, two, three.
Here we go.
Clap, clap, tap, tap, tap, clap, up, down.
Clap.
Now turn it all around.
Very good.
Let's say two times in a row.
Ready? One, two, and off we go.
Clap, clap, tap, tap, tap, clap, up, down.
Clap.
Now turn it all around.
Very good.
Okay, let's put those actions in there as well.
Okay, so we've got our cup.
I want to put that upside down and in front of me.
I'm using my right hand and I've got my left hand.
Right hand and left hand.
My turn first.
Clap, clap.
Tap, tap, tap.
Ready your turn.
Ready, here we go.
Clap, clap.
Tap, tap, tap.
Good, okay.
Let's do the next part as well, so my turn.
Clap, clap.
Tap, tap, tap.
Clap, up down.
Let's try it together a little bit slower.
Ready and off we go.
Clap, clap.
Tap, tap, tap.
Clap, up down.
Very good.
Remember to say it out loud as well.
Let's try it one more time.
Ready, here we go.
Clap, clap.
Tap, tap, tap.
Clap, up, down.
Good.
Last time, ready? And one, two and here we go.
Clap, clap.
Tap, tap, tap.
Clap, up down.
Good.
Okay, the next part that's the slightly tricky apart.
It goes like this, my turn and then your turn.
Clap, now on that now we take our right hand, we reach over around and we grab the cup.
Clap now.
Clap now.
Okay try it with me, ready? Here we go.
Clap, now.
Good, one more time.
Ready, and here we go.
Clap now, freeze.
When we pick it up, we're going to hit the open part against our left palm, just here.
Turn, let's try that.
So it goes clap, now turn.
Try it.
Ready and here we go.
Clap, now turn, good.
One more time.
Ready, here we go.
And clap, now turn.
Freeze right there.
The next part is that we just bring our cup down to hit the table.
Hit.
Turn, hit.
So that it looks like this.
Clap, now turn it.
Do that one more time.
Clap, now turn it.
Good, let's try it really slowly.
So my cup's upside down, here we go.
Just remember, clap now turn it.
Ready and here we go.
Clap.
Now, turn it.
Good, let's try that again, reset.
One more time, ready here we go.
Clap, now turn it, freeze.
Going to keep this hand going to left like this and when we say all, we're going to grab it with our left hand.
All and then with our right hand, a- round.
Okay so I'm going to break that down a bit.
We've just done clap, now turn it.
The next part is that we are going to change which hand hold the cups.
So we're going to put it into our left hand.
All, that's what we're going to.
We're going to, clap now turn it all and make sure you let go with your right hand.
Let's try it together.
Here we go.
One, two, and off we go.
Clap, now, turn it all.
Let's try it one more time, reset.
Ready, of we go.
Clap, now turn it all.
Good, last time, and then remember to freeze at the end.
Here we go.
One, two, and off we go.
Clap, now, turn it all, freeze.
Our right hand goes down a- and then our cup goes down to the side, round.
So it goes, a- round, let's try.
A- round.
One more time A- round.
Good, let's do those last two lines together, here we go.
So clap now, turn it all around, but nice and slowly.
Ready, steady, yeah here we go.
Clap, now, turn it all- a- round.
Good, let's do even slower.
Ready? One, two, and off we go.
Clap, now turn it all-a-round Very good, one more time, we can do it a little bit faster.
One, two and off we go.
Clap, now, turn it all- a- round.
Good, one more time a little bit faster.
Clap, now, turn it all- a- round.
And I can tell some of you who've been practising since our last lesson.
Let's put it all the way through from the top.
Hold on, here we go.
One, two, ready, here we go.
Clap, clap.
Tap, tap, tap, Clap, up down.
Clap, now, turn it all- a- round.
Good, we're going to do it again.
Ready? One, two, and off we go.
Clap, clap.
Tap, tap, tap.
Clap, up, down.
Clap, now, turn it all- a- round.
Very nice.
Now we're going to do it two times in a row.
Ready? One, two and off we go.
Clap, clap.
Tap, tap, tap.
Clap, up, down.
Clap, now, turn it all- a- round.
And again.
Clap, clap.
Tap, tap, tap.
Clap, up, down.
Clap, now, turn it all- a- round.
Very good.
Now this time, let's see if we can whisper the words of our challenge.
Ready? One, two, and off we go.
Clap, clap.
Tap, tap, tap.
Clap, up, down.
Clap, now, turn it all- a- round.
Clap, clap.
Tap, tap, tap.
Clap, up, down.
Clap, now, turn it all- a- round.
Very good, now that's whispering it just really, really quietly.
It means that actually we can, keep it a secret to ourselves.
It's almost like we are keeping the message of how to do the cup game to ourselves.
If you can say it in your head even better, let's try it.
If you need to whisper it, whisper it.
And if you need to say it, definitely say it until you've practised it enough times where you can just say it in your head.
Here we go.
This I'm going to carry on going over and over and over again.
And we might get a little bit faster.
Here we go, one, two.
Ready, one, two, three, here we go.
And again, and again, okay, a bit faster this time.
Clap, clap Tap, tap, tap Clap, up and down and again, here we go.
Okay, a bit faster this time.
Here we go Clap, clap well done.
Pause the video now so that you can practise the cup game all the way through.
Try it with your partner, friends and family.
And if you would like to practise together one more time with me, rewind 20 seconds and let's go through each of the steps.
When you're ready to continue click the play button.
What is Body Percussion? So Body Percussion.
Well, let's take those two words, body and percussion.
You all know what your body is.
Your body is what you is, your arms and your legs and your chest and your face and your heads and your feet is every single part of you.
That is your body.
But percussion, okay so Percussion is any musical instrument that you can hit.
It's something that you can hit.
You can shake or you can scrape, that's what percussion is.
We know that from our Percussion Unit.
So if we know what our body is and we know what a percussion is, and then we put it together, then body percussion is when we make sounds by tapping or shaking or scraping at different parts of our body.
It doesn't mean singing.
That's not a part of body percussion, even though it does come from my body, but we don't hit it or tap it or scrape or shake it.
So body percussion is where we make sounds by tapping, patting, or scraping different parts of our body to make sound.
Here are some examples of it.
So we've got our claps.
We've got our pats on our knee, I want to use my table.
We've got our snaps or cliques, and we've got our stomps as well on the floor.
Now full body percussion, it's usually something, if you especially going to stomp, usually a good idea if you have a little bit of space around you, which I'm going to ask you to get into in just a moment.
Boom Snap Clap.
Before we get standing up, we're going to practise a new piece of body percussion called Boom Snap Clap.
Again, there is a chance to help us learn it.
And it goes like this.
Boom, snap clap, Boom boom, snap clap, Snap boom, snap clap, Boom boom, snap shh! My turn first, and then your turn.
Here we go, Boom snap clap, Boom boom, snap clap snap.
Ready? Steady? Here you go.
Boom snap clap, Boom boom, snap clap snap.
One more time.
Ready? Here you go.
Boom snap clap, Boom boom, snap clap snap.
Good.
And the last part, we just change that snap to a shh! So it goes.
Boom snap clap, Boom boom, snap shh.
Boom snap clap, Boom boom, snap shh! One more time, Boom snap clap, Boom boom snap shh! Boom snap clap, Boom boom, snap shh! Good.
Let's say it from the top all the way through, nice and slowly to begin with.
Here we go.
One, two, three, Here we go, Boom snap clap, Boom boom, snap clap snap, Boom snap clap, Boom boom, snap shh! One more time, ready? Here we go.
Boom snap clap, Boom boom, snap clap snap, Boom snap clap, Boom boom, snap shh! Good, great.
Let's add it in.
So I'm going to add in these actions that go with it.
Boom, That's on our chest.
Snap, is our clique and clap is our clap.
Okay, so it looks like this together.
It goes, Boom snap clap, Boom boom, snap clap snap, Boom snap clap, Boom boom, snap shh! Oh, what did I do wrong? Hopefully you got it.
At the end I'm not meant to clap I'm meant to shh! Good, if you noticed that.
Here we go, Boom snap clap, Boom boom, snap clap snap, Boom snap clap, Boom boom, snap shh! Let's break it down, my turn first.
Boom snap clap, Boom boom, snap clap snap, Okay, we'll break it down into even smaller.
My turn.
Boom snap clap, so, that's chest, click My turn, Boom snap clap, your turn, My turn, Boom snap clap.
Your turn, Good, make sure you say the words as well.
My turn, Boom snap clap.
Your turn, Good, it's my turn, Boom boom, snap clap snap.
I say, I'll do that one more time.
Boom boom, snap clap snap.
Let's try it together, just that second line.
One, two, off we go.
Boom boom, snap clap snap.
Good, let's stick those two lines together.
Here we go, One, two, three, here we go, Boom snap clap, Boom boom, snap clap snap.
Let's do it one more time, ready? Here we go, Boom snap clap, Boom boom, snap clap snap.
One last time, ready? Here we go, Boom snap clap, Boom boom, snap clap snap.
Good.
There's the first two lines and you'll notice that those two lines repeat except for the very last word where we changed it to shh! Yeah, very good.
We're changing that click, that snap to a shh! So it goes, Boom snap clap, Boom boom, snap shh! Good.
Don't make the mistake as I was demonstrating earlier to do that clap, make sure that you have a shh at the end.
So it sounds like this, Boom snap clap, Boom boom, snap shh! Ready your turn, ready here we go.
Boom snap clap, Boom boom, snap shh! Great, let's put it together.
Here we go from the top, nice and slowly to begin with.
One, two, three, here we go, Boom snap clap, Boom boom, snap clap snap, Boom snap clap, Boom boom, snap shh! Very good, but one more time, Ready, steady, here we go, Boom snap clap, Boom boom, snap clap snap, Boom snap clap, Boom boom, snap shh! Very nice, but this time we're going to do it two times in a row.
One, two, three, here we go, Boom snap clap, Boom boom, snap clap snap, Boom snap clap, Boom boom, snap shh! And again, Boom snap clap, Boom boom, snap clap snap, Boom snap clap, Boom boom, snap shh! Very nice, okay, let's do it again.
This time we're going to see if we can say the words in our head, ready? If you need to whisper it, fine.
If you need to say it out loud, great.
But I'm going to challenge you to see if you can say the words in your head.
Which means still think those words as you are, would be saying it out loud, but do it in your head and do it loudly in your head.
One, two, three, here we go.
And again.
A bit faster.
Very well done.
Pause the video now so that can practise boom, snap, clap all the way through with a friend or a family member.
If you would like to, rewind 20 seconds and practise again with me.
When you're ready to continue click the play button.
Body percussion piece 'Africa'.
So this piece involves the word the name of the continent Africa It's not necessarily an African piece, but I really liked the word Africa and my family are from Africa so that we are going to use that word Africa to help us learn this piece.
Again we're going to use a chant to help us learn it but this time you, are going to need a little bit of space in a moment so make sure that you have a bit of space around that you can jump up and get into, okay? My turn and then your turn.
Af- RI, Af-RI- ca, Af-RI, Af- RI- ca, Af-RI, Af- RI- ca, Af-RI, Af- RI- ca, Good.
Africa, we've just broken up the name, the word Africa, into little segments into syllables and we've made a rhythm out of it.
Let's try it one more time.
Af-RI, Af- RI- ca, Af-RI, Af- RI- ca, Af-RI, Af- RI- ca, Af-RI, Af- RI- ca, Good, so we've got our pattern.
Let's see if we can clap it.
Af-RI, Af- RI- ca, Af-RI, Af- RI- ca, Af-RI, Af- RI- ca, Af-RI, Af- RI- ca, Good, so we have a short pattern, which actually, we are going to repeat continuously, which means it's going to go on loop over and over and over again.
And we can call that an Ostinato.
I'm going to come back to that word in a little while.
Now, this is where you're going to need your space.
So if you need to pause the video now and make sure that you are standing up, do that and when you're ready, we're going to continue.
So on the screen, you can see that there are specific body percussion actions For our first stomp.
I'm re I've got a clap and I've got stomp stomp clap.
So it's going to go, Af-RI, Af- RI- ca, Now I like to change up my leg.
So it goes right left, right, SO right Left, right But if you want to keep it to the same leg, that's actually fine.
So stomp, clap, stomp, stomp, clap.
And that's absolutely fine.
Whichever way is absolutely fine.
Let's start really slowly, so it's going to look like this.
Af-RI, Af- RI- ca, Af-RI, Af- RI- ca, Af-RI, Af- RI- ca, Af-RI, Af- RI- ca, Good, let's do it four times in a row.
Really slowly.
One, two, three, here we go.
Af-RI, Af- RI- ca, Af-RI, Af- RI- ca, Af-RI, Af- RI- ca, Af-RI, Af- RI- ca, That was very good, but we're going to do it one more time.
Ready? One, two, three, here we go.
Af-RI, Af- RI- ca, Af-RI, Af- RI- ca, Af-RI, Af- RI- ca, Af-RI, Af- RI- ca, Very good, this time say in your head Ready, one, two, three, here we go.
Very good job, it takes a little bit of practise to make sure that you have that pattern all the way through perfectly using the correct actions.
Pause the video now so that you can practise the first part of the African body percussion piece.
You could try with a partner, friends or family members, but if you would like to practise again together with me, rewind the video 20 seconds.
When you're ready to continue click the play button.
A huge well done for all of your practise today and your hard work.
Now from today's lesson, you now can perform the cup game.
You can understand the body percussion basics each of the actions, and you can practise the first part of our body percussion piece called Africa.
Make sure that you practise that before our next lesson, where we introduced even more sounds and we lay them up.
If you would like to share any of your work with Oak National, you can ask your parent or carer to share your work on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter, tagging @OakNational and #LearnwithOak.
Once again, a huge well done and I'm looking forward to seeing you in our next lesson.
Goodbye.
