This is what the structure of the lesson is going to look like today.

We will be going through the star words, then we will be looking at the Holy Bible, the difference between literal and metaphor, the creation story, and finally, we will be creating a story map.

You will need a piece of paper, a pen and your brain so that you're ready to do lots of learning today.

On the screen, you can see the star words for today's lesson.

I will be explaining these star words in more detail throughout the lesson.

But let's start with my turn and your turn.

Christians read a book called the Holy Bible.

My turn, your turn, Holy Bible.

Christians believe that this book was written by many people who were inspired by God.

And so it teaches them all about God, the afterlife, which is what happens to you once you die, and how you should live your lives.

The Bible has two key parts, the Old Testament and the New Testament.

Say after me, the Old Testament and the New Testament.

It was written after Jesus had died.

The New Testament is all about His life, His teachings, some guidance on setting up the church, and finally, what will happen when Jesus returns.

For this task, I would like you to write in full sentences.

Now let's have a look at the answer.

How did you do this time? Good effort.

I know you've tried hard to use all the key words that were listed on that screen.

The Old Testament was written a very, very long time ago.

The oldest parts of the Old Testament might be three and a half thousand years old.

How old? Good job, three and a half thousand years old.

Now there's lots and lots of stories in the Old Testament.

For example, on the left, you can see is a story of Adam and Eve, and on the right we have the story of Noah's Ark.

Have you heard these stories from the Old Testament? If not, maybe you can read more about them.

Today we are going to have a look at the first book in the Old Testament.

And this is called the Book of Genesis.

My turn, your turn, Book of Genesis.

This is a book that tells us about the creation story.

This is a story about how the world was created.

But before then, I need to define some important key words that are going to help us understand how Christians interpret or understand stories which are written in the Bible.

The first word is literal.

My turn, your turn, literal.

This is when something is exactly what is said to be.

Let's have a look at a saying.

You might have heard this before.

The saying is, it's raining cats and dogs.

When someone says that, if we interpret that literally, we would imagine cats and dogs falling out the sky.

I know, right? That is a very funny thought, so it's okay if you're laughing right now.

However, we know this is not possible.

Therefore, it's raining cats and dogs is a metaphor.

It is a? Good, it is a metaphor, which means it isn't actually true and it means something else.

That's what a metaphor means.

With metaphors, you need to work a little bit harder to find the meaning in the metaphor.

What do you think it's raining cats and dog actually means? Say your answer out loud.

Well, this saying is a metaphor that actually it's raining really, really heavily.

Within the Bible, there are lots of different stories and Christians interpret these stories in many different ways.

Some Christians believe these are literally true.

And some Christians believe this is just a story to help them understand God.

It's like you and I.

We will read the same story, but we will both take on different meanings from that story.

The first book in the Old Testament, the Book of Genesis, tells the creation story.

This story from the Bible is all about how the world was made, and it is a story that we will be studying today.

Some Christians believe this story is a true story, and the way that is written is actually how it happens.

On the other hand, some Christians believe that it's just a story and it helps them understand God, but it's not literally how the universe was made.

Are you ready to listen to the creation story? In the beginning, there was no earth or sky or sea or animals.

And then God spoke in the darkness, "Let there be light!" And right away there was light scattering through the darkness into the infinite space.

"That's good," said God.

From now on, when it's dark, it will be night, and when it is light, it will be day.

The evening came and the night passed and then the light returned.

This was the first day.

On the second day, God made the earth and over it, He carefully hung a vast blue sky.

He stood back and admired His creation.

"That's good too," said God.

And the second day was over.

The next morning, God looked around and thought, this earth needs to be a bit more organised, and so He put all the water in one place and the dry land in another.

When He had finished that, God made plants to cover the land.

All sorts of trees and grasses began to grow.

And that was the end of the third day.

On the fourth day, God looked around and thought, the day light still needs a bit more work, and the night is just too dark.

So He made the sun to light the sky during the day, and the moons and stars to add a bit of sparkle to the night.

On the next day, God turned His attention to the water He had collected in the oceans.

"I want these waters teeming with life." And as soon as He said that, it was so.

In no time, there were millions of small fish darting through the shallow water and huge fish swimming in the ocean.

God made birds too.

He sent them soaring through the sky.

The dusk fell over the water and the sky grew dark and that was the end of the fifth day.

On the sixth day, God created creatures for the land.

He made lions, He made tigers and He made birds.

He made rabbits and sheeps and cows.

He added everything from little ants to big zebras onto the land.

But He still felt something was missing.

So He added mankind to enjoy and to take care of all that He had created.

God looked around and was happy with what He had made.

After six long days, the whole universe was completed.

And on the seventh day, God had nice long rest.

So that is now the story about how the world began.

Here on the screen, you can see that I have summarised the creation story into a story map.

We are going to play a little game.

Now let me explain the rules.

On the next slide, one of the titles in the boxes will be missing.

You will need to tell me the day that is missing, but also what was created on that day.

Don't worry, I will leave the pictures so you can use them as clues.

On the sixth day according to the story, God created the land and mankind.

This was the last thing to be created according to the story.

Okay, we have one final one.

Here the fourth day is missing where God created the sun, moon and stars.

I would now like you to match up the numbers with the correct letters to show what happened on each day of the creation story.

Then you will need to write what happened on each day like this.

Finally, you will need to draw pictures in each of the boxes.

You can use the ones that are on the screen to help you, but feel free to get more creative.
