The question we're going to be exploring in today's lesson is where do Christians worship? In today's lesson, the structure is going to look like this.

We're going to first look at the star words.

Then we're going to understand what worship means for Christians.

We're going to think about what is happening inside a church.

We're going to look across at different famous churches in England.

And finally, we're going to finish off by looking at the features of a church.

You will need a piece of paper, a pen, and your brain, because you're going to be doing a lot of new learning in today's lesson.

On the screen, you can see the star words for today's lesson.

I will be explaining these star words in more detail throughout the lesson.

Let's start by saying them out loud using, my turn, your turn.

Worship.

Church.

Sabbath.

Hymns.

Summon.

Cathedral.

Nave.

Pulpit.

Font.

And lectern.

Some of those words I know are quite tricky, so well done for doing my turn, your turn with me.

Like in all other religions, worship is very important in the Christian way of life.

Worship means you are showing God that you adore God and that you believe that God is the greatest.

Now Christians can worship anywhere.

Where can they worship? Good, they can worship anywhere.

But a lot of Christians do come together publicly in a place called a church where they pray together.

Remember that Christians can worship anywhere, but they also do do it together in a church, okay? So it's really important to remember that you can worship anywhere, whether that's at home, when you're outside, sitting on a tube, or even at the church.

They can worship anywhere.

Now people go to the church at any time, but Christians also gather on a Sunday in particular.

And this is because it is the Sabbath day.

This is also known as the holy day, is also known as the holy day.

And on this day, Christians believe that they need to either rest or worship.

At the church, Christians will do a number of activities.

We are now going to go through each of these activities together.

Firstly, at the church, Christians will pray together.

Now we can use the symbol to help us remember this activity.

Now Eucharist is taking breads or wine at the church.

Is also known as the Lord's supper or taking communion.

So there are sometimes other key words used to describe taking the bread and wine at the church.

Now Christians do this because it helps Christians remember that Jesus died for their sins.

What does it help them remember? Good, that Jesus died for their sins.

Now, if you remember, this is from the Last Supper when Jesus gave bread and said it was his body and then gave wine and said it was his blood.

So this is the Last Supper before Jesus was crucified.

So this links to our previous lesson.

Some Christians believe that the bread and wine literally turns into the body and blood of Christ.

They believe that by eating it, they are showing faith in Christ and they are accepting him into their body.

Churches come in all shapes and different sizes.

They come up in all? Good, all different shapes and sizes.

So some are very, very large, like the one on the left hand side of the screen, and these very large churches are called cathedrals.

On the left-hand side, you can see the Notre-Dame.

Do you know which city or what country you will find the Notre-Dame in? If you said France and Paris, you are correct, and you have incredible general knowledge.

The Notre-Dame can be found in Paris, which is a city in France.

So very large churches are called cathedrals, but churches can also be smaller, like you can see on the right hand side.

They can be very, very old or they can be very, very modern and new.

Here are two famous churches in England.

Do you recognise them? Do you know where they are? Good.

Both of these churches are in London.

On the left, you have Westminster Abbey.

This you might recognise from the time that Kate Middleton and Prince William got married.

Did you watch the ceremony? I know I definitely did, and I remember the church being so beautiful inside.

Another interesting fact about Westminster Abbey is that at Westminster Abbey monarchs are also coroneted here since William the Conqueror in 1066.

Do you know what coronation is? A coronation is a ceremony where a new king or queen are crowned, that is coronation.

Now on the right hand side, you can see St.

Paul's Cathedral.

An interesting fact about St.

Paul's Cathedral is that in 1666, the cathedral was damaged in the Great Fire of London.

Maybe you already know about the Great Fire of London.

The same pose that we see today was actually designed by famous architect called Sir Christopher Wren.

Who was it designed by? Sir Christopher Wren.

Now let's have a look at the design of churches.

On the screen, you can see a floor plan of a church.

Churches are often built so that they look like crosses when looked at from the sky.

I know you probably use your hands to remind yourself that they look like crosses when you look at them from above the sky.

We are now going to start looking at the features inside the churches.

You might be able to recognise some of these if you have been inside the church before.

Now, there are lots of common features of churches, which help the activities of the church.

The large area in the middle is called the nave.

It is called the, nave, good job.

So the key word is nave, and it is the middle.

Where people sit in the church is called the, nave.
