Hello, my friends and welcome to this lesson on the unit of Islam.

My name is Mr. Petrosa and in this lesson we're going to have a look at the following question, So the question is, "How do Muslims express their faith?" Let's have a look at the lesson right now.

So we'll begin with the star words.

Then we're going to have a look at "How many Muslims are there in the world?" We'll have a look at "How do you become a Muslim?" and "What is the Ummah?" and "How do Muslims practise their faith?" and at the very end is the end of lesson quiz.

Things that you're going to need in this lesson include your exercise book or paper.

You need a pencil or a pen, and you're going to need a ruler.

So if you haven't got those things, go and get them now.

Awesome job my friends.

Now, let's have a look at the key star words.

We've got "population", "convert", "ummah", and "faith".

So "population" is the total number of people living in a country, city, or other area.

"To convert" means to accept different beliefs or ideas.

"Ummah" is an Arabic word meaning communities.

So "ummah" means community.

Good Job.

And "faith" is any particular religion and it's teachings.

Now, let's have a look at "How many Muslims are there in the world? So, since it was founded by the Prophet Mohammed in the 7th century, the religion of Islam spread to every region of the world.

And as a result, there is a great deal of diversity among the world's Muslim population.

Wherever there is of every race and a presence in almost every single country on Earth.

Today, there are approximately 1.

6 billion Muslims around the world.

And Indonesia I have this marked in red.

Indonesia and Southeast Asia has the largest Muslim population, over approximately 229 million adherence of Islam.

So, approximately how many Muslims live in Indonesia? Is it 229? Is it 2,290? Is it 29 million or is it D, 229 million? Approximately how many Muslims live in Indonesia? So A, B, C, or D? Pause the video and have a go.

Okay, let's have a look at the answer to that question.

So, approximately how many Muslims live in Indonesia? The answer was "D", 229 million.

So there are approximately 229 million Muslims living in Indonesia.

Awesome job, my friends.

I'm going to put it up so that you can check your answer.

Awesome work, my friends.

Now, let's have a look.

How do you actually become a Muslim? So, becoming a Muslim requires a very simple act, but the meaning behind it is very deep.

All you have to do is believe that there is only one god who is referred to as "Allah" who is said to have created the entire universe.

And you also have to accept that Mohammed is His final messenger on Earth.

Remember that the Prophet Mohammed is seen by Muslims to be the final prophet.

He is the seal of the prophets.

And if you recite the Shahada with total sincerity in front of two witnesses, there have to be two witnesses, then, you become a Muslim.

And remember that the Shahada, the profession of faith, is referred to as the first pilar of Islam.

Now, some Muslims believe that if you become a Muslim, you're actually reverting.

You're actually becoming a Muslim again.

And they base that on the belief that all people are born with a natural faith in God.

So some Muslims believe that everybody is born Muslim, but then they choose a different religion when they're growing up.

So if you convert to Islam, you're not converting.

You're actually reverting.

But that's just what some Muslims believe.

Now, let's complete the sentence.

So, Muslims call the recitation of faith the hmm.

It is one of the Five Pillars of Islam.

What is that pilar of Islam called? Have a think.

Have a go.

Pause the video and complete that task.

Okay, let's have a look.

Which pillar of Islam is the recitation of faith? Ready? Three, two, one.

It's the Shahada.

So Muslims call the Shahada the recitation of faith.

It is one of the Five Pillars of Islam.

Awesome job, my friends.

Well done.

I'm going to leave it up so that you can check your answer.

Awesome job, my friends.

Now, let's have a look at this section.

So, in this section it says in Islam there is a great emphasis on developing a relationship with God.

And that tends to come through prayer, but also, Muslims, some Muslims say that at all times they have to live according to Allah's will, according to God's will.

And therefore, every choice that they have to make has to be a choice that would please God.

So they, some Muslims believe that it is really important to always hold God in mind whatever you're doing throughout the day.

Now, what is the ummah? Now Muslims often think of themselves as members of one family called the ummah.

And the word "ummah" means community in Arabic.

And the constant behind ummah unites Muslims from all over the world meaning that a group of people made up of different ethnicities and cultures can consider themselves to be one family.

And this is best exemplified during Hajj when Muslims from all around the world go to Mecca to perform one of the Five Pillars of Islam.

So, how do Muslims practise their faith? Now, the most obvious way in which Muslims practise their faith is through their adherence to the Five Pillars of Islam.

Salat, remember, is a daily reminder of Muslims' adherence to God because it encourages them to pray at least five times a day.

Others, such as Hajj, which is pilgrimage to Mecca, is strongly encouraged if Muslims have the means to do so.

Now, Ramadan, which is the month of fasting, is also seen as a test of devotion and faith to God.

And during this month, Muslims are encouraged to do good deeds, to read the Quran, and spend lots and lots of times with their family.

Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan, and Eid al-Adha, which, remember, is the Prophet Abraham's devotion to God, are some of the festivals which bring Muslims together and is a visible expression of their faith.

Now, just like other religions, Islam has certain restrictions on what believers are allowed to eat and consume.

For example, Muslims, they have to ensure that any meat that they eat has to be killed in accordance with Islamic law.

And it's branded as halal meat.

Now, Muslims are forbidden from eating pork and also, they're forbidden from drinking alcohol.

So let's answer this question.

Which Muslim festival marks the end of Ramadan? So, in the answer it said, "The Muslim festival which marks the end of Ramadan is known as.

What is the Muslim festival that marks the end of Ramadan known as? So at this point pause the video and complete that task.

Awesome job.

Let's have a look.

Ready? So which festival Which Muslim festival marks the end of Ramadan? It is, of course, The Muslim festival which marks the end of Ramadan is known as Eid al-Fitr.

Awesome job, my friends.

Well done.

I'm going to leave it up so that you can check your answer.

Okay, let's have a look now at some traditional Muslim clothing.

So in Islam men and women are required to dress modestly and many Muslim women wear something called a hijab or veil to protect their modesty.

Not all Muslim women choose to do this and in the United Kingdom, this is a matter of choice.

You can either choose to wear it, or you don't choose to wear it.

Some Muslim women also wear a niqab or a burka which covers the majority of their face.

Again, not all Muslim women choose to do this and in the UK, again, this is also a matter of choice.

In certain Muslim majority countries, Muslim women are obliged, They have to wear the hijab.

Men, they have no requirements to dress in a given way but men are required to dress modestly and some Muslim men wear a skull cap when they pray.

Hey guys.

That is the end of the lesson.
