Hello.

My name is Mr. Womack, and I'm really excited to be working with you today.

We're gonna have a great lesson and I just know that you're going to do brilliantly.

The lesson titled for today is The words of Prophet Muhammad today, and it comes from the unit, Prophet Muhammad: how does he inspire Muslims today? By the end of our time together, you'll be able to explain how the Qur'an and Hadith influence Muslims today.

Let's get started.

These are the key words we're going to be using, and we're going to try practising them together now.

I'm going to say them first and you repeat them after me.

Qur'an.

Qur'an.

The sacred book of Islam, believed to be the word of God as dictated to Prophet Muhammad by the angel Jibr'il.

Hadith.

Hadith.

A collection of traditions containing sayings, actions, and approvals of the Prophet Muhammad.

Interpretation.

Interpretation.

When you understand or explain something in your own way.

Guidance.

Guidance.

Advice or direction that helps make the right choices or find the best way to do something.

As we go through the learning, we're gonna keep coming back to these keywords, so keep a lookout for them.

Here's the lesson outline.

In the first part of the lesson, we're going to learn, How do the Qur'an and Hadith inspire Muslims? And in the second part, we're going to look at, Why understand different interpretations? We're going to start with, How do the Qur'an and Hadith inspire Muslims? Here's Laura.

Laura explains what we mean by theology in religious education.

She says, "Theologians are interested in stories, texts, and traditions.

We can better understand people's worldviews by examining what the deeper meaning of these stories, texts, and traditions are.

We can also look at the difference they make to people today." In this lesson, we will be using the tools of theology to better understand different Muslim worldviews about the Qur'an and Hadith.

The Qur'an is the holy book of Muslims, which contains the words of Allah, God, revealed to Prophet Muhammad.

After the Prophet passed away, these messages were written down and collected to form the Qur'an.

Muslims believe it is the final and most complete message from Allah.

Let's take a moment and check our understanding with a quick multiple choice question.

Which of the following do Muslims believe is the final and most complete message from Allah? Is it A, the Hadith, B, the Qur'an, or C, the Sunnah? Pause the video now whilst you think, which of these is the correct answer? The correct answer is B, the Qur'an.

Well done if you got that one right.

Let's meet Hassan.

Hassan is a British, Shi'a Muslim and has a Muslim worldview.

He believes the Qur'an is an important guide for life, offering wisdom on how to live rightly and answer life's questions.

Hassan shares.

"I view the Qur'an as a powerful book that offers wisdom on how to live a righteous life, providing answers to spiritual, moral, and practical questions.

It teaches me how to be kind, truthful, and honest, which helps me build strong, trusting relationships with others and live in a way that brings peace and goodness to those around me." The Qur'an inspires Muslims by guiding them to live a life of compassion, justice, and integrity, offering guidance that helps them stay connected to their faith.

Let's listen to Zaid, who is a British Sunni Muslim and finds inspiration in the Qur'an to stay close to his faith and live with purpose.

<v Zaid>Today, I want to talk about</v> how the Qur'an inspires me as a Muslim.

For me, the Qur'an is more than just a book.

It's a guide that helps me live a good and meaningful life.

It teaches me to be kind, honest, and just.

For example, when I feel unsure about what to do, I remember that the Qur'an tells me to treat others with respect and to always seek the truth.

The Qur'an helps me in all situations, whether it's about school, family, or how I treat my friends.

It reminds me to be patient, to help those in need, and to be grateful for everything that I have.

For me, the Qur'an is not just something I read, it's something I try to follow every day to become a better person and make the world a better place.

It inspires me to stay close to my faith and live with purpose.

<v ->That's really interesting, isn't it?</v> It's good to hear from examples of Muslims who have lived experience.

What is the Hadith? The Hadith is a collection of sayings and actions of Prophet Mohamed.

These sayings and actions help many Muslims understand how to live a good life and follow God's teachings.

After Prophet Mohamed passed away, his companions wrote down his sayings and actions.

These were carefully collected into books called Hadith so that everyone could learn from them.

Many scholars studied these books to make sure they were correct and true, so Muslims could keep following the Prophet's teachings.

So let's take a moment and attempt a multiple choice question to check our understanding.

What is the Hadith? Is it A, a collection of sayings and actions of the Prophet, B, a collection of poems about Islam, or C, a guide to Islamic prayer? Pause the video now whilst you think, which of these is the correct answer? The correct answer is A, the Hadith is a collection of sayings and actions of the Prophet.

Well done if you got the right answer.

The Hadith helps many Muslims learn how to be good people.

Here's Sarah.

Sarah is a British Sunni Muslim and has a Muslim worldview.

She believes that the Hadith teaches her how to kind, honest, and patient, just like Prophet Muhammad.

Sarah says, "Prophet Muhammad's actions and words are recorded in the Hadith.

'The best among you are those who have the best manners and character.

' This Hadith provides me with the guidance to act with kindness and respect, helping me grow into a better person every day." So let's take a moment to attempt a true or false question to check our understanding.

The Hadith is part of the Qur'an and is considered its equal in importance.

Pause the video now whilst you think, is the answer true or false, and why? The answer is false.

The is a separate collection of sayings and actions of the Prophet distinct from the Qur'an, but both are important sources of guidance for Muslims. Hadith is the second most important thing in Islam after the Qur'an, 'cause it was written by the Prophet's companions.

Well done if you got the correct answer.

Hassan and Sarah discussed the importance of the Qur'an and Hadith for many Muslims. What are Hassan and Sarah's views about the Qur'an and Hadith inspiring Muslims? Pause the video now whilst you have a think, and discuss.

It's time for a task now.

Can you match these words to their descriptions? We've got Qur'an, Hadith, and guidance, and the descriptions are, a collection of traditions containing sayings, actions, and approvals of the Prophet Muhammad, an advice or direction that helps make the right choices or find the best way to do something, and finally, the sacred book of Islam, believed to be the word of Allah as dictated to Prophet Muhammad by the angel Jibr'il.

You're going to have to pause the video now whilst you think, which of these words fit to which descriptions? So let's check that matching activity.

For Qur'an, you should have the sacred book of Islam, believed to be the word of Allah as dictated to Prophet Muhammad by the angel Jibr'il.

For Hadith, you should have a collection of traditions containing sayings, actions, and approvals of the Prophet Muhammad.

And for guidance, you should have an advice or direction that helps make the right choices or find the best way to do something.

Well done for working really hard to complete that task.

And now we come to the second part of that task.

Complete the sentence using the case studies that we learned about earlier.

The Qur'an and Hadith inspire Muslims by.

While you're doing this, think about what Hassan and Sarah said.

You're going to need to pause the video now whilst you complete that task.

Well done for completing your work.

I wonder what you put.

You might have said something like this.

The Qur'an and Hadith inspire Muslims by showing them how to live a good and happy life.

The Qur'an and Hadith inspire Muslims by guiding them to be honest, kind, and respectful towards others and become better people.

Well done for putting lots of effort into that to complete your work.

Well, that means that we finished the first part of our lesson about how do the Qur'an and Hadith inspire Muslims. We're now going to move on to the second part.

Why understand different interpretations? Muslims follow both the Qur'an and Hadith to guide their lives.

Qur'an teaches Muslims how to pray, help others, and live a good life.

Hadith helps explain how to act in daily situations.

Let's check our understanding with a quick question.

Which two sources of guidance do Muslims follow in their daily lives? Is it A, the Bible, B, the Qur'an, C, the Hadith, and D, the Salat? Remember, for this one, you're going to have to choose two sources.

So pause the video whilst you think, which two sources are the correct answer? The correct answers are the Qur'an and the Hadith.

Well done if you got the correct answer.

Sarah often reflects on the teachings of the Qur'an and Hadith.

Sarah says, "The Qur'an tells me to pray and remember Allah.

In Surah Al-Baqarah, it says, 'Establish prayer and give zakah.

' The Hadith teaches me how and when to pray.

Prophet Muhammad said, 'Pray as you have seen me pray,' and I try to follow his example in my own prayers." Hassan reflects on the teachings of the Qur'an and Hadith about kindness and helping others.

Hassan says, "In the Qur'an, Allah encourages me by saying, 'Whoever saves one life, it is as if he has saved all of mankind.

' I also look to the Hadith for further guidance, where Prophet Muhammad said, 'The best of people are those who are most beneficial to others.

' I strive to live by these teachings, doing my best to be kind and helpful to those around me." What is interpretation? Interpretation is how we understand or explain something.

Imagine you see a glass that's halfway filled with water.

One person might say it's half full, because they see there's still water in it.

Another person might say it's half empty, because they notice it's not full.

Both are looking at the same glass, but they see it in different ways.

Well, let's take a moment and check how our understanding with a quick question, what is interpretation? Is it A, writing a story based on facts, B, the ability to read words, or C, understanding something in your own way? Pause the video now while you think, which of these is the right answer? The correct answer is C, interpretation is understanding something in your own way, like the half-filled or half-full glass of water example that we just looked at.

Well done if you got the right answer.

Not all Muslims interpret Qur'an and Hadith in the same way.

Different interpretations can arise due to varying traditions or cultural practises, even when based on the same verse or sayings.

However, both interpretations are valid, even if they focus on different actions.

Let's try a true or false question.

All Muslims interpret the Qur'an and Hadith in the same way.

You're gonna need to pause the video now whilst you think, is the answer true or false, and why? The answer is false.

Not all Muslims interpret the Qur'an and Hadith in the same way.

Different interpretations can occur due to different traditions or cultural practises.

Well done if you got that one right.

Here's Sarah again, thinking about, why do people interpret words in the Qur'an differently? Sarah says, "Sometimes when I read the same words, I might understand them differently from someone else.

This happens because I come from a different place and have different experiences and sometimes speak a different language." Different Muslims might interpret some of the verses in the Qur'an and the sayings in the Hadith in different ways.

For example, if the Qur'an or Hadith says, "Be kind to everyone," one person might interpret kindness as giving money to those in need.

Another person might understand kindness as being friendly and offering help with tasks.

This shows how different people can interpret the same message in different ways, based on their perspectives and experiences.

Hassan and Sarah represent Shi'a and Sunni beliefs.

They both follow the teachings of Prophet Muhammad, but they may interpret his words and actions in slightly different ways.

These differences show how the Muslim world has many different worldviews.

By learning how Muslims might understand Prophet Muhammad's words in different ways, we can see that there isn't just one way to be Muslim.

This diversity helps us understand that Muslims are inspired in many different ways and have many different views and ways of practising their faith.

It's time for a task now.

Use the sentence starters to help you answer these questions.

One, what is interpretation? Two, why do Muslims interpret the Qur'an and Hadith in different ways? Three, why is it helpful to understand that Muslims interpret things in different ways? So you're going to need to pause the video now whilst you use the sentence starters to answer those questions.

I look forward to hearing what you write.

Well done for completing that task.

I wonder what you put.

You might have said something like this.

Interpretation is how we understand or explain something.

For the next question, you might have said, Muslims interpret the Qur'an and Hadith in different ways because they may have different backgrounds, experiences, and ways of understanding the teachings.

And for the last one, you might have said, it is helpful to understand that Muslims are inspired in many different ways and have many different views and ways of practising their faith.

Great effort on completing that task.

Well done.

That brings us to the end of our lesson.

So let's summarise what we've learned together.

We found out that Muslims follow both the Qur'an and Hadith to guide their lives.

Not all Muslims interpret the Qur'an and Hadith in the same way.

Different interpretations can arise due to varying traditions or cultural practises, even when based on the same verses or sayings.

And finally, these differences show how the Muslim world has many different worldviews.

Great work on today's lesson.

I've really enjoyed working alongside you, and I look forward to working with you again sometime soon.

Bye for now.
