Hi, I'm Mrs. Afshan, and welcome to our lesson.

Today we are going to learn about an important lesson from Guru Nanak's teachings about being honest and living a good life.

By the end of today's lesson, you'll be able to understand Guru Nanak's message on honesty and how it leads to living a peaceful, happy life.

Let's get started.

The outcome of today's lesson is I can understand Guru Nanak's teaching on being honest and living a good life.

Let's look at the keywords.

These are the keywords which will help us understand Guru Nanak's teachings better.

The first word is integrity, which means the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles.

The next word is truth, a fact or belief that is accepted as true.

And honest, always telling the truth and doing the right thing, even if it's hard.

Would you like to repeat those words one more time? Well done.

Great effort.

Our lesson today has two cycles.

First, let's find out why is it important to live an honest life.

Let's just find out what does honesty mean to you? Have a think.

Well done.

That was great thinking.

Honesty or being honest means telling the truth and being real.

I'm sure you have that idea.

It means saying what is true, even when it's hard.

For example, if you accidentally break something at home, being honest means telling your parents what happened instead of hiding it or making up a story.

Here's a check for understanding.

What does being honest mean? Is it telling the truth only when it's easy, or always agreeing with others? Or is it telling the truth and being real? What do you think? Well done.

That is correct.

Being honest mean telling the truth and being real.

Well done.

Now let's find out from Ria about living an honest life.

This is Ria.

She's a British Sikh with a worldview that everyone is equal and connected.

She believes in living honestly, helping others, and being kind.

Let's not find out what Ria says about her living an honest life.

My Sikh faith teaches me to live an honest life, help others, and be kind.

I pray, work hard, and share what I have to try to make the world a better place.

Here we have Guru Nanak, the Sikh guru.

What did Guru Nanak teach about living an honest life? Guru Nanak believed that people should always try to live with kindness, fairness, and honesty in their hearts.

He taught that being truthful and honest helps people stay on the right path and leads to a peaceful, happy life.

Let's check for understanding.

Which of the following did Guru Nanak teach? Lying helps people stay on the right path, or being truthful and honest helps people stay on the right path, or talking a lot helps people stay on the right path.

What do you think? That's correct.

Guru Nanak taught that being truthful and honest helps people stay on the right path.

Great work.

Guru Nanak also taught that sharing what we have with others and helping those in need is part of living honestly.

Being honest means treating others with respect and caring for them, which includes sharing what we have, whether it's food, kindness, or time.

One of the Guru Nanak's most famous teachings is that truth is above all, but higher still is truthful living.

This means that telling the truth is very important, but it's even more important to live in a way that reflects the truth.

Here's Mandeep.

Mandeep is also a Sikh.

Mandeep shared how he follows Guru Nanak's teachings about truthful living.

This is what Mandeep said.

"Guru Nanak taught us to always tell the truth, live thankfully and truthfully, and remember to treat everyone equally.

I believe in working honestly, helping others, and doing the right thing to make the world better for everyone." Here's Mandeep talking about this special item that he wears, the kara.

Mandeep says, "I wear my kara on my dominant hand to remind myself to always act with honesty and do what is right, just like Guru Nanak taught.

It helps me straight through to my beliefs and follow Guru Nanak's teachings in everything I do." Here's another check.

Guru Nanak said, "Truthful living is not important as it is very difficult." True or false? What do you think? You are correct if you chose false.

Because Guru Nanak emphasised the importance of truthful living more than simply telling the truth, even if it is challenging.

Well done.

Here's Izzy.

Izzy is reminding us of Guru Nanak's teachings.

Izzy says, "Guru Nanak believed that honesty is one of the most important values in life.

He taught that telling the truth and living truthfully in everything we do is the best way to live." And Laura says, "He also said, by being honest, people not only feel good about themselves, but also make the world a better, more peaceful place where everyone can trust each other." Time for a task.

I hope you're ready.

Complete the following sentences based on what you've learned about Guru Nanak's teachings on honesty.

We've got some sentence starters to help you.

The second sentence, "One's teachings is that truth is above all, but higher still is truthful living." And finally, our third sentence, "Being honest means treating others with respect and caring for them." I hope you completed your sentence and got them right.

Well done for your great effort.

Now we know why it is so important to live an honest life.

We can now find out what Sikhs learned from Bhai Lalo's story.

Guru Nanak taught Sikhs to always be honest, work hard, and help others.

He said people should be kind, share what they have, and remember God in everything they do.

Let's read the story of Bhai Lalo, which shows Guru Nanak's teachings that honesty and hard work are more important than wealth.

Are you ready? On one of his journeys, Guru Nanak and his friend, Bhai Mardana, visited a town called Eminabad.

The rich and important people from the town wanted Guru Nanak to join them for meals, but he always said no.

Instead, Guru Nanak and Bhai Mardana went to the home of a kind and hardworking carpenter named Bhai Lalo.

They loved sharing simple meals that Bhai Lalo made in his little kitchen.

Time for another check.

Why did Guru Nanak accept Bhai Lalo's invitation to eat? Is it because Bhai Lalo served simple and honest food, or Guru Nanak didn't like rich people? Or is it Bhai Lalo was his friend? What do you think? That's correct.

Bhai Lalo served simple and honest food.

Well done.

One day, while they were staying in Saidpur in Punjab.

They got an invitation from a wealthy man named Malik Bhago.

He was a high-ranking official and wanted to have a big feast for all important people, including Guru Nanak.

But Guru Nanak politely declined the invitation.

Malik Bhago was very upset.

"Why won't you come to my feast?" he asked angrily.

"You're happy to eat the food of this poor carpenter." To help Malik Bhago understand, Guru Nanak held out two pieces of bread.

One was Bhai Lalo's homemade bread, which was rough and simple, the other was fancy bread from Malik Bhago's kitchen that looked very nice.

Guru Nanak squeeze the two pieces of bread in his hands.

From my Bhai Lalo's bread, drops of milk came out, but from Malik Bhago's bread, drops off blood trickle down.

Guru Nanak smiled and said, "You see, Malik Bhago.

I prefer by Bhai Lalo's food.

Your bread may look delicious, but it comes from being greedy and dishonest.

Bhai Lalo's bread, though simple, is made with hard work and honesty.

It tastes as sweet as milk and honey because it comes from a kind heart." Finally, Malik Bhago understood.

Time for another check for understanding.

What did Malik Bhago understand at the end? Is it that wealth and power are important, or that honesty and truthfulness are important? Or is it that guru would not accept any food? What do you think? That's correct.

Malik Bhago understood that honesty and truthfulness are important.

Well done if you got that right.

What did Ana teach Sikhs through by Bhai Lalo's story? What do you think? You must have thought about these ideas? Guru Nanak taught Sikhs the importance of honesty, truth, integrity, and hard work.

Through by Bhai Lalo's story, Guru Nanak showed that what matters most is not wealth or appearance, but the purity of one's heart and actions.

Time for another check.

Honesty, truth, integrity, and hard work are important parts of a Sikh's life today.

True or false? True.

That's correct.

It's because Guru Nanak emphasised these values, and they remain central to Sikh practise in the present day.

Great work.

Ria shared her learning from the story of Bhai Lalo.

This is what Ria says.

"The story of Bhai Lalo teaches me to be honest and truthful in everything I do, whether it's at school, with my friends, or at home.

It also reminds me to respect the work and effort that goes into everything I have." Great learning.

Here's Mandeep.

Mandeep reflected on the story and shared, "Guru Nanak taught us the value of living an honest life.

I've learned that even simple things done with love and truth are more valuable than wealth that comes from dishonesty and greed." Here's Andeep, Laura, and Izzy, and they're discussing Guru Nanak's teachings on living honestly with truth and integrity in everyday life, Andeep it says, "Many Sikhs try to follow and tell the truth and be honest, just like Bhai Lalo.

It makes them feel good inside." Laura says, "Many Sikhs believe that being truthful is more important than having lots of money because it helps them make good decisions." And Izzy says, "Many Sikhs believe in living with integrity because it makes them a better person." Time for our next task.

Here we have Andeep.

Andeep is asking, "What are teachings on honesty, truth, and integrity in living a good life?" Can you help Andeep? Write three sentences to help Andeep explain what honesty, truth, and integrity mean for Sikhs? You can post the video now and come back when you're ready with your answers.

Let's check our sentences.
