Hello, my name is Ms. Wroth.

Today we're going to be looking at the lesson: My favourite foods.

This fits into the lesson unit, Physical health: How do I eat a balanced diet? So let's get ready to begin.

Today's lesson outcome is: "I can describe what foods I enjoy eating, and explain why different people eat different foods." Let's begin by taking a look at our ground rules together, and we have some friends here to help us.

Laura says, "We should listen to others." And that means not interrupting when somebody else is speaking.

Andeep says, "We should respect privacy." And that means if somebody decides to share a story or their own experience, that we don't go and repeat it to others outside of this lesson.

Jacob says, "No judgement ." And that means if somebody does decide to share a story or their own experience, that we don't judge them because of it.

And Izzy says, "Choose your level of participation." And that means you can decide if you simply just want to listen or if you want to share something throughout.

Here are today's keywords.

I will read them first to you and then you can repeat them after me.

Are you ready? Country, culture.

Well done.

Country is an area of land that has its own government and can be large or small.

Culture is the way of life for a group of people, including foods, language, music, and celebrations.

Let's see if we can spot any of these keywords throughout today's lesson.

Here is the lesson's outline, and we are going to begin with: What food do you love? Everyone is different and enjoys eating different types of food.

Laura says, "What's your favourite food?" Hmm? I love pasta.

Laura says, "My favourite food is pesto pasta." Andeep says, "My favourite food is sushi." Mm.

I love pasta and sushi.

Time for a check for understanding.

True or false? Everyone likes the same types of food.

Hmm.

You can give me a thumbs up if you think it's true or a thumbs down if you think it's false.

Hmm.

Everyone likes the same types of food, true or false? Pause this video so you can have some thinking time.

Well done if you said false.

Now I'd like you to have a think about why this statement is false.

Pause this video again so you can have some thinking time.

This statement is false because we are all different and enjoy eating different types of food.

Well done if you said something similar to me.

There are lots of different types of food to choose from.

For example, sushi, which is made from rice and fish.

Fruit, curries, and my favourite, which is prawn pasta.

Sometimes we might not like new food straight away, however, the more we try a new food, the more we might like it.

Izzy's dad says, "As a child, I never liked eating fish.

Now that I'm older and have tried it a few times and in different ways, I love it." Jacob says, "Liking lots of different types of food makes life more exciting." Izzy says, "I love trying new foods and eating different things each day." Time for a check for understanding.

Fill in the missing word in this sentence.

The more we try a new food, the more we might.

it.

Is the missing word A: dislike, B: like or C: see? Hmm? Fill in the missing word in this sentence.

The more we try a new food, the more we might.

it.

Pause this video so you can have some thinking time.

Well done If you said B, like.

The more we try a new food, the more we might like it.

Time for a task now.

First, draw a picture of your favourite food.

Then write a label to explain what your favourite food is.

Pause this video so you can have some time to do the task, and then we will go through the answers together.

Well done for having a go.

Your picture and label might look like this.

"My favourite food is tofu and vegetable curry." Time for the second part of our lesson.

We are now going to move on to What food do other people in your class love? Our favourite foods are often shaped by what our families eat at home.

Some families eat spicy food.

Some do not eat meat or fish, and some have special meals for different celebrations.

The food we eat at home can be special because our families make it for us.

It's important to be kind and respectful when someone likes something different from us.

Andeep says, "When we talk about our favourite foods, we can learn about new ones that we haven't tried before.

Maybe a friend loves a food that you've never heard of." Time for a check for understanding.

True or false? All families eat the same food at home.

Give me a thumbs up if you think it's true or a thumbs down if you think it's false.

Hmm.

All families eat the same food at home.

True or false? Pause this video so you can have some thinking time.

Well done if you said false.

Now I would like you to have a think about why this statement is false.

Pause this video so you can have some thinking time.

This statement is false because every family is different.

Some families eat spicy food.

Some do not eat meat or fish, and some have special meals for celebrations.

Well done if you said something similar to me.

The food we enjoy is also shaped by the different countries and different cultures that people are from.

Culture means the way of life for a group of people, including foods, language, music, and celebrations.

Some examples of cultural foods are: foods eaten at a Diwali celebration, roast dinner, which is an English traditional meal, and sufganiyot, which are eaten during Hanukkah.

Jacob says, "My dad is from the Caribbean and often makes tasty chicken and plantain on the weekends." That looks delicious, Jacob.

Jacob says, "I also enjoy eating pesto pasta, just like Laura." Laura says, "My family are all from England and we enjoy eating a traditional roast dinner together on a Sunday." And Amara says, "I'm Pakistani and at home, my mum cooks spicy, colourful food.

I am also a Muslim, and we celebrate Eid by eating a big meal together." Time for a check for understanding.

What can influence the food that we enjoy? Is it A: our families, B: our pets, or C: our culture? Hmm? What can influence the food we enjoy? Pause this video so you can have some thinking time.

Well done if you said A and C.

Our families and our culture can influence the food that we enjoy.

Time for a task now.

Lucas is talking about the type of food people enjoy eating.

Lucas says, "Everyone enjoys eating the same types of food." Tell your partner two reasons why Lucas is incorrect.

Pause this video so you can have some time to do the task, and then we will go through the answers together.

Well done for having a go.

Your answer could include: "Every family is different and eats different things.

And the different countries and cultures that we are from shapes the foods we enjoy." Well done if your answer was similar to mine.

For the second part of the task, I would like you to ask two people in your class what their favourite food is.

Write their answers in one sentence.

Pause this video so you can have some time to do the task, and then we will go through the answers together.

Well done for having a go.

Your answers might look something like this: "Jun's favourite food is Chinese dumplings that his grandma makes," or "Sofia's favourite food is pizza from the Italian restaurant near her house." We are now going to move on to the third and final part of our lesson: What food do people like around the world? People in different countries around the world eat different foods because of their culture, celebrations and the ingredients that easily grow there.

For example, in Mexico, many people love eating tacos.

Mexico has excellent weather conditions to grow corn, which is the main ingredient for taco shells.

In Japan, many people love eating sushi.

Japan has excellent weather conditions to grow rice and have access to fresh fish in the sea.

Rice and fish are two key ingredients in sushi.

Time for a check for understanding.

Fill in the missing word in this sentence.

People in different countries eat different types of food because of their.

celebrations and the ingredients that grow easily there.

Hmm.

Fill in the missing word in this sentence.

Pause this video so you can have some thinking time.

Well done if you said culture.

People in different countries eat different types of foods because of their culture, celebrations and the ingredients that grow easily there.

Some places are hot like South America, so they grow lots of tropical fruits like mangoes and bananas, as this type of fruit grows best when it's hot.

People who live in colder places, such as England or Iceland, might eat more hot meals like stews and soups, to keep them warm.

Some foods are popular in many countries.

For example, many people across the world enjoy foods like pizza, pasta, bread, and rice.

These types of foods can be made in different ways.

In Italy, pizza has lots of cheese and tomato, but in Turkiye, people eat pide, which is a different kind of flatbed pizza.

Time for a check for understanding.

Which types of food are popular all around the world? Is it A: tacos, B: bread, or C rice? Hmm.

Which types of food are popular all around the world? Pause this video so you can have some thinking time.

Well done if you said B and C.

Bread and rice are popular foods all over the world.

Time for a task now.

With your partner, name two to three different foods that people like to eat in different countries.

For each one, explain why many people eat that type of food there.

Here is one as an example.

I've written, "In Japan, many people like to eat sushi because there is lots of rice grown there." Pause this video so you can have some time to do the task, and then we will go through the answers together.

Well done for having a go.

You could have said: "In Mexico, many people like to eat tacos because corn is grown there easily because of the weather.

In Iceland, many people like to eat soups and stews because it is cold bear and soup is warming.

In South America, many people like to eat tropical fruit as it is hot there, and this type of fruit grow best when it is hot." Well done if your answers were similar to mine.

This brings us to the end of our lesson and I've had a wonderful time with you today.

Thank you for joining me.

Here is a summary of everything that we've covered in today's lesson.

Everyone enjoys different foods.

We might not like new foods straight away, but the more we try something, the more we might like it.

Our favourite foods are shaped by our families and the countries and the cultures we are from.

People eat different foods all over the world.

This is because different countries grow different foods due to their weather.

Some foods, like bread and rice are popular in many countries.
