Hello, my name is Miss Willow, and I'm going to be guiding you through today's lesson.

Today's lesson is called "Keeping My Body Healthy," and it fits into our unit "Physical Health: What makes a balanced lifestyle?" I'm really looking forward to teaching you today's lesson, so let's make a start.

By the end of today's lesson, you'll be able to describe different ways of looking after your body.

Before we get started with today's lesson, we need to go over some ground rules.

These help to make sure that everyone feels safe and comfortable throughout today's lesson.

Laura says that we need to listen to others.

This means that we're not going to interrupt other people if they're speaking.

Jacob says no judgement.

This means if someone chooses to share a story or an experience, we're not going to judge them for it.

Andeep says respects each other's privacy.

This means that we're not going to ask anyone any personal questions as this can make some people feel uncomfortable.

And Izzy says choose our level of participation.

This means it's up to us how much we want to join in.

We're now going to go through the keywords for today's learning.

These are gonna pop up quite a few times in today's lesson, so it's important that we have a good understanding of what each word means.

Rest, this means to relax or sleep to allow your body and mind to take a break and to have more energy.

Diet, this is the kinds of foods that a person eats.

Exercise, this means moving our bodies to stay strong and healthy.

Hygiene, this means keeping ourselves clean and healthy.

As we go through today's lesson, keep an eye out for these words as they pop up, and see if you can remember what they mean.

Today's lesson is split into three learning cycles.

The first learning cycle is called, why is it important to Look after our body? The second learning cycle is called, how can we move and eat to stay healthy? And finally, what habits help us to look after our body? Let's make a start on our first learning cycle.

Why is it important to look after our body? Our body helps us so much every day.

It can allow us to get from one place to another to learn new things, to play and to have fun.

Our body is also really good at telling us what we need.

We might feel that our eyes feel heavy or that we feel irritable if we're tired.

If we're hungry, our stomach might rumble.

It might hurt or we might feel grumpy.

And if we need a break, we might feel tearful.

Our heart might beat fast or our breaths might be shorter.

These are all signals that our body can give us if it needs something.

Our body gives us lots of different signs to tell us that it needs something, and everyone can feel these signs differently.

So it's important to pay attention to what our body does when it needs something.

Aisha says, "My stomach grumbles when I'm hungry." Alex says, "When I'm hungry, I feel grumpy and tired." Can you think of what signs your body gives you if it needs something? These signs tell us that our body needs us to do something in order to look after it.

If we feel tired, it's because we need to rest.

If we feel hungry, it means that our body needs us to eat something.

And if we need a break, it means that our body needs us to sit down and take some deep breaths.

We need to protect our body by giving it what it needs to stay healthy because our body is so important.

We can do this by listening to the signs our body sends us.

Izzy says, "I know I'm thirsty when my throat feels dry and scratchy.

This tells me to drink some water." Lucas says, "I know I'm overwhelmed when I feel tearful.

This tells me that I need to have some quiet time." Let's do a check for understanding to see how you're getting on with this learning cycle.

Is this statement true or false? Everyone's body gives the same signs when it needs something.

What do you think? Is this true or false? Pause the video, talk to the people around you.

Tell me or have a think to yourself.

Well done if you said false, but why? Well said if you said that everybody's body is different and everyone experiences different signs from their body when it needs something.

Our body is amazing at looking after us.

It helps us to get better when we're sick or hurt, and it helps us to have lots of energy to do the things that we enjoy.

By looking after our body, we're helping our body to look after us.

When we look after our body, this can make us less likely to get sick.

It can help us to learn and play.

It can help us to feel happier and it can give us more energy.

It also makes it easier to do the things that we enjoy.

This means that looking after our body is really important.

Not looking after our body and not looking out for our body signs that it needs something can cause us harm.

Jun wants to share his story.

"When I was playing football, I knew my body needed a break and some water, but I kept playing.

Afterwards, I didn't feel very well and my legs hurt too." Jun's story shows us how not looking out for our body and not looking out for its signals can cause us harm.

We might not feel very well.

Our body needs us to look after it by making sure that it has the right foods, drinks, relaxation, and movement to stay healthy.

Let's do another check for understanding.

Who's made the healthiest choice for their body? Laura says, "I was playing on my tablet when my eyes started to hurt and I felt tired.

Straight away, I put my tablet down and got ready for bed." Jacob says, "I was playing video games when I started to feel tired and hungry.

I decided to keep playing the game as I was having fun." Can you decide who's made the healthiest choice for their body? Talk to the people around you.

Tell me or have a think to yourself.

Well done if you said that Laura made the healthiest choice for her body.

Laura listened to the signs that her body needed to go to sleep, and she listened.

Straight away, she put her tablet down and she got ready for bed.

This shows that Laura was listening to what her body needed.

We're now moving on to our first practise task.

I'd like you to use the images to help you and explain three reasons why it's important to look after our body.

Pause the video and we'll go through the answers in a few minutes.

Okay, let's see what you may have written.

You may have written that it helps us to get better when we're sick or hurt.

It helps us to have more energy, and it helps us to feel happier and do the things that we enjoy.

These are three reasons why it's really important to look after our body.

Well done if you had this or something similar, It's time to move on to our second learning cycle, how can we move and eat to stay healthy? One way that we can stay healthy is by eating a balanced diet.

A balanced diet allows us to get lots of different nutrients from lots of different food groups.

The eat well plate suggests that we should try to mostly eat fruits and vegetables and starchy foods.

Fruits and vegetables could be made up of foods like apples, bananas, and carrots.

And starchy foods are usually potatoes, rice, or bread.

The eat well plate also suggests that a balanced diet contains protein and dairy or healthy non-dairy alternatives.

We can get protein from beans, eggs, meat, tofu, nuts and seeds, and fish.

And we can get dairy from cheese, yoghourt, oat milk, almond milk, and milk.

High fats and sugary foods and drinks can still form parts of a balanced diet if they're consumed in small amounts.

We should aim to mostly eat from the other food groups and have high fat and sugary foods and drinks from time to time.

Drinking water is also really important for staying healthy.

Water is the healthiest drink that we can have.

If we feel thirsty, this is a sign that our body needs us to drink some water because it needs to be hydrated.

We should aim to drink between six and eight glasses of water a day to stay hydrated.

This means to have enough water to stay healthy.

And we need to drink more if it's hot, if we feel thirsty, or if we've been active and been doing some exercise.

Let's do a check for understanding to see how you're getting on.

Which food groups should we mostly eat from to stay healthy? Should we eat A, high fat and sugary foods, B, starchy foods, or C fruits and vegetables? What do you think? Pause the video.

Talk to the people around you, tell me, or have a think to yourself.

Well done if you said that we should mostly eat starchy foods and fruits and vegetables in order to stay healthy.

It's important to remember that we can eat high fats and sugary foods from time to time, but in small quantities.

This helps us to stay healthy.

We can also stay healthy by making sure that we do enough exercise regularly.

Everyone enjoys different types of exercise, so it's important to choose a type of exercise that you enjoy and that you can do regularly.

Andeep says, "I enjoy running around outside." Sophia says, "I prefer playing sports." We should aim to get 60 minutes of exercise every day, and this can be broken up throughout the day so that we're exercising frequently for short periods of time.

For example, we could exercise for 60 minutes a day by exercising for 20 minutes three times a day.

We could also exercise for 10 minutes, six times a day.

These options allow us to get 60 minutes of exercise in smaller amounts throughout the day.

It's important to find a way to exercise that works for us.

This means that we're more likely to exercise the right amount to stay healthy.

Getting enough exercise every day is really important because it improves the health of our heart.

It makes us feel good.

It strengthens our bones and muscles, and it can help to prevent some serious diseases.

It can also help us to sleep better too.

We should try to be more active instead of spending too long on screens as too much screen time can be harmful to our health.

Too much screen time can negatively affect our sleep, our eyes, and our mood.

Let's do a check for understanding to see how you're doing.

This time, I'd like you to fill in the blanks.

We should aim to do something minutes of exercise every day to stay healthy.

Everyone enjoys doing something types of exercise.

Exercising is good for our hearts and also something our bones and muscles.

Can you think of which words should go in the gaps? Pause the video.

Talk to the people around you, tell me, or have a think to yourself.

Well done if you said that the missing words were 60, different, and strengthens.

The complete paragraph should now say, "We should aim to do 60 minutes of exercise every day to stay healthy.

Everyone enjoys doing different types of exercise, and exercising is good for our heart and also strengthens our bones and muscles." Well done if you got this correct.

This shows me that you've been really paying attention this lesson, and I'm really proud of you.

What do you think about what Aisha says? Aisha says that healthy eating and exercise are only important for people who want to change how they look.

What do you think? Do you agree with Aisha, disagree, somewhere in the middle, or maybe you're not sure? Well done if you said that Aisha's incorrect.

Having a healthy diet and doing enough exercise are important for everyone.

We should eat healthily and exercise because we care about our body not because we want to change it.

Some adults choose to make healthier food choices and exercise more frequently because they do want to change the way that they look, but Dr.

Elsie says that it's okay to change our diet or how we exercise because we want to be healthier.

If we need help doing this, we can speak to a trusted adult.

It's important that children make healthy choices because they want to change how they feel or feel healthier and not because they want to change how they look.

Let's do another check for understanding.

Is this statement true or false? Healthy eating and exercise are only important for people who want to change how they look or feel.

What do you think? Is this true or false? Pause the video.

Talk to the people around you, tell me, or have a think to yourself.

Well done if you said that this is false, but why? Healthy eating and exercise are important for everyone.

We should make healthy choices because we care for our body and we want to protect it.

Well done if you said this or something similar.

We're now moving on to our second practise task and you're doing a brilliant job so far.

For this task, I'd like you to give each pupil two pieces of advice on staying healthy.

Jacob says, "I eat a lot of chocolate and sweets and I sometimes eat fruits and vegetables." And Sam says, "I mostly watch TV.

And at break times and lunchtime, I sit and talk to my friends." Can you give both Jacob and Sam two pieces of advice on how they can stay healthy? Pause the video and we'll go through the answers in a few minutes.

Okay, let's see what you might have said.

You might have said that Jacob could eat fewer high fats and sugary foods.

He could eat more fruits and vegetables, starchy foods, protein, and dairy to have a more balanced diet.

And Sam could reduce her screen time and do more exercise instead.

She could exercise with her friends at break time and lunchtime so that she exercises for 30 minutes each day.

Well done if you had this or something similar.

It's time to move on to our final learning cycle, and you're doing a fantastic job, so keep it up.

Our last learning cycle is called, what habits help us to look after our body? We can develop habits that help us to look after our body.

One of these habits is practising good hygiene.

One way that we can have good hygiene is by having a shower or bath every day or every other day.

This helps keep our body clean and helps to wash away any germs which could make us unwell.

It's especially important to have a shower or a bath if we've done some exercise or if it's hot outside, but it's important to have a shower or bath regularly, for example, every day or every other day, so that we feel comfortable, and so that we keep our body clean.

We can also have good hygiene by washing our hands regularly.

We should always wash our hands after you've been to the toilet, before eating, or if we've or coughed into our hands.

Having good oral hygiene helps us to stay healthy.

It's important to remember to brush our teeth for two minutes twice a day to keep our teeth clean.

We should also remember to floss regularly, which means using a thin thread to clean between our teeth as germs and bacteria and plaque can build up in between our teeth, and it's important to remove it to keep our teeth healthy.

If we don't have good oral hygiene, our body can give us a signal.

For example, we might have bad breath, our teeth might feel funny, or our gums might feel sore and bleed.

These are all signals from our body that we need to improve our oral hygiene, for example, by brushing more regularly or for longer.

If we don't have good hygiene, we can become ill feel uncomfortable or develop an unpleasant smell.

Dr.

Elsie says that we can protect our body and stay healthy by having good hygiene.

Let's do a check for understanding to see how you're doing with this learning cycle so far.

I'd like you to decide whether each pupil should wash their hands or have a shower or bath.

Andeep says, "It's a hot day and I've just got home from school." Alex says, "I've just been to the toilet," and Laura says, "it's been two days since I've washed my body." Can you decide whether each pupil should wash their hands or have a shower or bath? Pause the video.

Talk to the people around you, tell me, or have a think to yourself.

Okay, let's see what you might have said.

Andeep should have a shower or bath, Alex should wash his hands, and Laura should have a shower or bath.

Well done if you got this correct.

Rest and relaxation are also important for our body.

We should aim to get between 9 and 12 hours of sleep every night to allow our body to get enough rest to grow and develop.

When we sleep, our brain processes information, solves problems, and gets ready for the next day.

We can after our body by making sure that we get enough sleep every night, Rest for our body and our mind can also look like making time to do the things that we enjoy.

We could read a book, do some drawing or some colouring, or spend time with family or friends.

We can also practise mindfulness to help our body and mind to rest and relax.

When we practise mindfulness, we try to bring our attention to what's happening in the present moment.

We do this by focusing on our breath as it comes in and goes out.

This can be a really helpful way to stay calm and relaxed, especially if there's something that we're worried about.

If we are ever worried about something, it is important to share this with a trusted adult as well.

Let's do another check for understanding what are some habits that can help our body and mind to rest and relax? Could we, A, read a book, B, do some exercise, or C, practise mindfulness? Which of these are habits that can help our body and mind to rest and relax? Pause the video.

Talk to the people around you, tell me, or have a think to yourself.

Well done if you said that A and C are correct.

We can help our body and mind to rest and relax by reading a book or practising mindfulness.

Whilst doing some exercise is really good for our body, this would be an example of something that's active and it wouldn't be restful or relaxing for our body.

It's now time to move on to our final practise task, and you've done a brilliant job so far.

For this last practise task, I'd like you to complete the table with at least three answers for each question.

The first column says, how can we have good hygiene? And the second says, how can we help our body to rest and relax? Can you come up with at least three answers that answers each question? Pause the video, and we'll go through the answers in a few minutes.

Fantastic.

Let's see what you might have said.

To answer the question, "How can we have good hygiene?" you might have said we can take a shower or bath frequently, we can brush our teeth twice a day for two minutes each time, and we can wash our hands regularly and always after going to the toilet.

To answer the question, "How can we help our body to rest and relax?" you might have said we can get between nine to 12 hours of sleep every night, we can make time for the things that we enjoy doing, and we can practise mindfulness.

Well done if you had this or something similar.

We're now going to summarise the key learning for today's lesson.

In today's lesson, we have learned that our body is really good at giving us signs that tell us what it needs.

We need to protect our body because it's so important.

By eating a balanced diet and doing exercise regularly, we are helping to protect and look after our body.

Practising good hygiene also helps us to stay healthy.

Getting enough sleep and making time to rest and relax helps our body and mind to stay healthy.

Well done for your fantastic hard work in today's lesson.

You might have found that you've got some worries or questions about anything in today's lesson.

And if you do, it's really important to speak to a trusted adult about how you feel.

There's also some resources on the screen who are there to help you too.

You've done a brilliant job today and I'm so proud of you.

I hope to see you in another lesson soon.
