We're thrilled to be working with the British Nutrition Foundation to create food lessons for Years 1 to 6 which will be released over the course of the academic year. We’ve developed a cooking and nutrition curriculum that progresses over the years, focusing on food preparation and cooking, healthy eating, where food comes from, and making informed choices. You’ll find lots of lessons to choose from, and of course, we hope you will want to use them all, but understand that you might want to dip-in and use a few to suit the needs of your school.
You can find all the lessons we will be releasing across the academic year in our primary curriculum sequence.
When it comes to preparing and cooking food, we appreciate that a number of challenges may pop up - from where to cook and equipment to use, to ingredient sourcing, and hygiene and safety - just to name a few. At first it can seem daunting, but being prepared and organised in advance results in fantastic learning experiences for pupils.
While we’ve provided lots of lessons and support, what if you aren’t feeling too confident about setting-up and running food activities at school? Perhaps it’s about making sure it's safe, or maybe just getting the ingredients and equipment ready? To help, we’ve developed a ‘using our cooking and nutrition resources in the primary classroom' checklist. It covers the basics to get you started, working through our rich curriculum but it can also be used to help you in planning other food and nutrition lessons of your own.
Food experiences enrich all our lives, and provide valuable learning opportunities not just about food, but also maths, history, geography, science etc... Start small and build your own and pupils’ confidence, see what works and then go for it!
