Hello everyone.

My name is Ms.Barron and welcome to unit five.

Now I know that you have been learning the story "Anansi and Tiger" in unit four.

In this unit, we are going to recycle that story, which means we're going to change it, to bring in lots of our own ideas.

Now, I love stories.

I love telling stories.

I love writing stories, and I love recycling stories to make them my own.

So that's exactly what we're going to do.

By the end of this unit, you will have a whole new story of your own that you have written and that you can tell, how exciting is that? Now I also know that you have been learning how to make the action in your stories, really clear and exciting.

So we're going to stick with that focus in this unit, we are going to be writing our new recycled stories with a focus on making the action clear.

So I think we should start with our action that is clear song.

I think you can remember it from unit four, join in with me when you can, it goes like this.

So, let me get on and tell you exactly what today's lesson is going to look like.

So in our first lesson, in this unit, we are going to generate, which means we're going to come up with ideas for our recycled story.

This is what the lesson is going to look like today in a bit more detail.

First, we are going to do a quick spelling activity.

Then we are going to sing our Anansi song and do a recap of the story that you have learnt so far.

After that, we're going to generate ideas for our recycled stories.

And finally, we're going to map our recycled stories to help us remember them.

So in this lesson you will need an exercise book or a piece of paper and a pencil or a pen to write with.

So let's begin with our spelling activity.

Today, we are going to practise spelling some tricky words.

Now, remember, we can't sound these words out, can we? We just have to learn them.

We just have to remember them.

So let's practise reading them together first.

It's going to be my tenure turn watch out for my hand signals so you know when it's your turn, okay? Are you in the zone? Let's go.

Do, my turn, do, your turn.

Do, do, please, do you work as a team? The word is do, next word.

My turn, to, your turn, to, to, to, fantastic.

Anansi went to tiger to play a trick on him.

The next word you, your turn, you, you, you fantastic.

Python are you the longest snake in the jungle? Next word, come, my turn come, your turn, my turn come, your turn, fantastic.

Tiger come out of your cave.

The word is come.

Next word, he, your turn, he your turn, brilliant.

He came out of his cave and growled.

Next word, are, my turn are, your turn, my turn, are, your turn, fantastic.

The word is are, the sentence is, are you going to give me your stories? The word is are, so those are our tricky words today.

Well done for reading them with me.

Now, you just heard me put them into story sentences of my own.

I would like you to do the same thing now.

I would like you to take each of those tricky words and put them into a story sentence about the story "Anansi and Tiger" on your own.

So you don't have to write them down, just make them up and say the sentence out loud and then get ready to tell me your favourite sentence when you press play again.

So pause the video now and do that.

Fantastic, you are back well done for practising those words in sentences.

Now, can you tell me your favourite sentence that you made up.

Now let's practise spelling them.

So now we've used them in our sentences and now we recognise what they look like, let's practise writing them down.

So we're going to use our strategy.

Look, cover, write, check, do that with me.

Look, cover, write, check, fantastic.

So I only want you to do these three words today.

So just practise spelling do, to and you.

So first look at the word, then cover it up, then I want you to practise spelling it three times Just like you can see on the screen in front of you.

Then take your hand away so you can see the word again and check.

Now at this point, if you've made any mistakes you can correct them and keep practising spelling those words until you get them right.

Now let's move on to the main parts of the lesson.

Now then shall we recap the story "Anansi and Tiger" before we recycle it? I think that's a good idea.

We need to know the original story really well before we can change it, though, to recap the story I'm going to tell it to you.

This is the story of "Anansi and Tiger." Once upon a time there was a spider called Anansi.

Now Anansi was clever, Anansi was quick.

And what Anansi wanted he usually got with a trick.

Now it just so happened that in that place all of the stories belonged to tiger.

There was tiger the great, tiger and the sun, tiger and the elephant and so on.

Tiger simply knew and had all the best stories.

Now Anansi was fed up with this situation.

He wanted the stories for himself.

And so he decided to trick tiger into giving him the stories.

So he scurried and he scuttled and he scurried and he scuttled and he scurried and he scuttled all the way to tiger's cave.

When he got to the cave, there was an echo.

Could you be the echo? "Tiger" called Anansi in his sing-song voice, go on be echo with me, ready? Tiger, Tiger came proudly out of his cave and growled.

He didn't like Anansi much.

"What do you want?" "Well," said Anansi, "I've come to make you a deal." I'll get you to things you really want and in return, you must give me all of your stories.

Tiger thought about this for a minute and decided it could be good chance to get rid of Anansi once and for all.

He'd had enough of him, "agreed," said tiger.

And he shook on it with his paw, see tiger was honourable he kept his word.

So he shook spider's leg with his paw to make the deal.

"Get me a barrel of bees then and a python," said tiger.

Now, Anansi was clever.

Anansi was quick and what Anansi wanted he usually got with a good trick.

Then off he scurried and he scuttled and he scurried and scuttled and he scurried and he scuttled all the way to the tree where he knew there was a beehive.

"bees" he called in his sing-song, voice go and be the echo with me ready? Bees, the Queen bee came out.

"What do you want?" "Well, is it true" said Anansi, "that you bees just squabbled all the time.

You don't get anything done because you just argue," "Oh, no," said queen bee.

"That's not true at all.

We work as a team." "Well, if that's the case, prove it," said Anansi.

"If you really can work as a team then get all of your bees inside this barrel" Queen bee began to organise all of her bees.

So that really quickly they were flying into that barrel.

They were all inside the barrel until finally there was just her left.

Then there she was, all of the bees inside the barrel.

And what did Anansi do? Boom he slammed down that lid all of the bees were trapped.

Anansi rolled the bowel back to tigers cave.

"Here you go" said Anansi, here's your barrel of bees.

Thought tiger, well, I bet he can't get that python, he thought, but Anansi was clever, Anansi was quick and what Anansi wanted he usually got with a good trick.

So off he scurried and he scuttled, he scurried and he scuttled and he scurried and he scuttled all the way to the beach where he found python basking in the sun, his scales shimmering in the sunlight.

"Python," he calls in his sing-song voice.

Going to and be the echo with me, ready? Python, "What do you want," said python? "Well, I've heard the cobra is longer than you.

I've heard cobra is the longest snake in the jungle, Is that true?" "No, I'm the longest snakes" "Go on" answered Anansi, "prove it, measure yourself up against this stick.

Cobra was as long as this stick." Now python measured himself up against the stick but he fell short.

Anansi said "I know a way I can help you.

Let's tie your tail to the bottom of the stick and then you can really stretch your body out so that you can reach the top." So Python agreed and Anansi tied his tail to the bottom of the stick.

Python stretched his body out but he still fell short.

So when Anansi said, "I know another way I can help you, let's tie the middle of your body to the stick, that way you can really stretch your head out and reach the top." And so Anansi tied Python's middle to the stick.

Python stretched out his head as far as he could but still he fell short, but Anansi didn't wait.

He grabbed Python's neck and tied it to the top of the stick.

Now python was completely tied to the stick and couldn't move.

And Anansi took him all the way back to tiger's cave.

"Here goes" said Anansi, "here is your python." Now tiger who was honourable, could not go back on his word.

And he had to give Anansi all if his stories.

And that is why from that day to this you never find tigers or tiger stories in those places for they all belong to Anansi.

And that is the story of how Anansi tricked tiger to giving him all of his stories.

So now that we've recapped the story we are now ready to recycle it and change it with lots of our own ideas.

So this is how we're going to do it.

Here is the original story map from "Anansi and Tiger." Now, what we are going to do, is we are going to change the things that tiger wants.

So instead of a barrel of bees and a python we are going to make up new things that tiger wants.

We are also going to add one.

So instead of just two things we are going to have three things that tiger wants and we are going to make up new tricks.

So we're going to make up three new tricks that Anansi uses to get his hands on those things.

So now we are going to create new story maps to show a recycled version of "Anansi and Tiger" with our own ideas.

Now you can see that my hand is covering a picture that's because I've drawn a new picture idea already and I don't want to show you yet.

So you're going to help me create my new story map and then it's going to be your turn to do yours.

So the first three pictures in our story map are going to stay the same because we're still going to have our main character Anansi who is going to trick tiger into giving him all of his stories.

And so they make a deal but instead of tiger wanting a barrel of the bees and a python he's now going to want different things.

And he's going to want three things.

The first of those things is going to be a dog with a bone.

And what I need your help with is to come up with ways that Anansi could trick the dog into giving him his bone.

So I wonder if you have any ideas.

What kind of things could you do to get a dog away from its bone? What do you think Anansi would come up with? Go and tell me your idea to the screen now say, I think Anansi would.

Those are some fantastic ideas.

Let me share them with you.

So I heard that Anansi could bring out its lead and say, walkies, we know that dogs love to go for walks, don't we? So maybe if we brought out its lead the dog would run off and go on its walk.

I also heard that he could throw a stick and say, "fetch." We know that dogs love to chase sticks, don't we? And I also heard that Anansi could bring out a big roast duck.

Now that would be more exciting for the dog than a bone.

So he'd do after the duck instead it would smell delicious.

Which one of those would you like to choose for your trick? Have a think about that.

I think I'm going to choose the first one that Anansi throws a stick and says fetch.

So next to my dog with a bone picture I am going to write two words.

I'm going to write the word stick so we can sound that out.

Help me sound this out S-T-I-C-K stick and he's going to say fetch sound out fetch with me, F-E-T-C-H, fetch, fetch.

And I'm going to put that in inverted commas because it's what's Anansi says.

Fetch, okay, so that is the first thing that Anansi is going to get for tiger.

Now, the next thing that he is going to get, tiger says that he wants the pot of gold that the ogre sits on.

So there's an ogre in the jungle and Anansi wants the pot of gold that he sits on and guards all the time.

So let's draw the ogre, shall we? The ogre is going to look something a bit like this.

There he is, so there's ogre and there's his pot of gold that's he sits on.

So tiger wants the pots of golds that the ogre sits on.

So there's the picture to show that.

Now we need to think of a way that Anansi could trick ogre into giving him the positive golds.

What could it be? I wonder if you have any ideas.

What do you think would get away from that pot of golds? So Anansi could take it, go on, tell me your idea now to the screen.

If you have one.

Those are some brilliant ideas.

So let me tell you what I heard.

First I heard that Anansi could offer to give him a fantastic wig so that he has some hair for the party.

I also had that the ogre is lonely.

And so Anansi could tell him that there was a lovely lady ogre waiting to have dinner with him down by the lake so he can find love.

And finally I heard that Anansi could offer him a genie's lamp so that he could have three wishes.

You thought this ogre was quite greedy, didn't you? Because he sits on this pot of gold.

So he might want a lamp to get three wishes.

Which one of those do you think you're going to pick for your story? I think I like the middle option, that he's lonely and wants to find love.

So next to my picture I'm going to write the word lady, lady.

So this is how to write the word lady.

And then I'm going to draw a heart to show that he wants to find love.

So that is how Anansi is going to trick the ogre.

And one last trick, tiger is going to ask for the fan of a peacock, the fan of a peacock.

So I'll show you a picture of a real peacock after we've done our map.

So peacock's fan is such a beautiful thing.

So it looks a thing like this.

Now that Peacocks are known for being proud because they are just so beautiful and magnificent.

So I wonder how could you trick a peacock into giving? How could Anansi trick the peacock and giving him his fan? I wonder if you have an idea, go on if you do tell me to your screen now.

Fantastic, such a lot of creative ideas.

Let me tell you some of the ones I heard that I really like.

So I heard that Anansi could offer him a bright shiny crown so that he could look even more magnificent.

I also heard that Anansi could offer him some roller skates so that he could be the fastest bird in the world.

And then I heard that he could swap its fan for wings so that he could fly, peacocks can't fly.

So maybe peacock would be willing to swap his fan for a pair of wings.

Gosh, those are great ideas or really creative.

I could choose any one of them.

Have a think about which one you would like to choose for my story I am going to choose, I like the crown idea.

I think peacocks are really proud and they're really vain which means they love the way they look.

So I think he wants to be even more magnificent looking.

So I'm just going to write the word crown.

So sound out that with me, C-R-O-W-N crown and I'll draw a picture of a crown and that's to show how Anansi tricks peacock into giving him his fan and then Anansi takes all of those things back to tiger.

Tiger has no choice but to give Anansi all of his stories.

So that is my new map for my version of "Anansi and Tiger" with my own ideas.

Before you draw your story maps, let's just recap the different options you might choose from for Anansi's tricks.

So how might Anansi trick the dog into giving him its bone? Well, you might want to choose from one of these options, throws a stick and says fetch, brings out a big roast duck or brings out its lead and says walkies.

So if you'd like to choose the first option for your story, write the word stick like I did.

If you want to choose the second option write the word duck.

And if you'd like to choose the third option write the word lead.

So I'd like you just to write one word to remind you what your choices, to remind you what your first trick is going to be.

Now you might have a different idea of your own, if you do that's great you can use that.

So pause the video now and write your one word to remind you what your choice of trick is going to be.

Fantastic, so you have decided on your first trick for your new story.

Now let's have a look at the second trick, shall we? How is Anansi going to trick Ogre into getting that pot of gold from him? So here are the options you might choose from.

He might offer him a fantastic wig so he has hair for the party.

He might offer him a dinner with their lady ogre so that he can find love, or he might offer him a genie's lamp so he can make three wishes.

You might like to choose one of those three options for your trick.

So if you do, if you want the first option write the word wig, if you would like the second option write the word lady like I did.

And if you would like the third option then write the word lamp.

Or you might have a different idea of your own for how Anansi could trick ogre.

If you do then write one word for that too.

So pause the video now and write your one word to remind you of your second trick for your story.

And now let's decide on our third trick for Anansi.

How is it Anansi going to get peacock to give him his fan? So is he going to swap its fan for wings so that he can fly? Is he going to swap its fan for a bright shiny crown so that he can look even more magnificent? Or is he going to offer to give him a pair of roller skates so that he can be the fastest running bird in the world and run even faster than ostrich, for example? So if you would like to choose the first option, write the word wings, if you would like the second option write the word crown and if you would like the third option then write the word roller skates or you might have a different idea of your own.

In which case you can write one word to show that.

So pause the video now and write down your word for your third trick in your story.

Fantastic, so now you have decided on your three tricks your ready to map your recycled story.

So here's mine on the screen to help you, pause the video now and have a go at drawing your own story map.

And that brings us to the end of today's learning.

I have really enjoyed hearing all of your creative ideas for your recycled story.

Now you've got your own story map with all of your own ideas for how Anansi could trick tiger into giving him his stories.
