Hi everyone, My name is Miss Toole and this is tabby cat.

Tabby and I love to create stories, and songs and poems. And today we would like your help in creating a quick poem.

Before we start our learning.

Now I have already printed the format for our poem, and it's just going to be three words, three words, three words.

And we would like it to be based upon our topic, of how to grow a bean.

So tabby, I'm going to sit you here while you have a think of some ideas.

And then we need your help at home to tell us some ideas of how we can start our poem, and so in middle, and finish it.

So I want, if I'm thinking about my bean, what's the first thing that happens when we're planting a bean? The seeds are planted.

Well done, right.

Let's write on our three lines.

So seeds are planted.

P l a n t e d Seeds are planted.

Okay tabby cat have a think, after the seeds are planted, what then helps our seeds to grow? Yes tabby cat.

I wonder if anyone else at home has got the same idea as you.

There's something in the sky that helps, the sun shines bright.

Fantastic right.

Tabby cat you sit there.

Sun shines bright.

We've got our three word, sun shines bright.

So let's spell.

Sun shines bright.

Oh we've got to try writing here.

Br try that i t.

Sun shines bright.

Can you see how easy it is for us to create a poem? Seeds are planted, sun shines bright.

Oh what's the thing that happens next? After the sun shines bright, what comes? Good.

The shoots grow.

Shoots grow up Fantastic.

Shoots grow and last word up.

Shoots grow up.

Wow you've helped us to write a poem based on our beans.

Let's go, seeds are planted, sun shines bright, shoots grow up.

Fantastic.

Oh give an idea tabby cat? We could play our poem to a song.

Have you got something in mind? Well, I think kind of let you.

Do you guys at home know the tune London's burning? Let's have a go at putting our poem to the tune of London's burning.

Are you ready? One two three, ♪ Seeds are planted ♪ ♪ Sun shines bright ♪ ♪ Shoots grow up ♪ ♪ Shoots grow up ♪ That is fantastic.

See if you can join in with us at home now.

Are you ready? One two three, ♪ Seeds are planted ♪ ♪ Sun shines bright ♪ ♪ Shoots grow up ♪ ♪ Shoots grow up ♪ Amazing.

I really love our poem.

And I wonder if you could have a go at writing your own poem at home.

You just need to draw your lines, so you could do it three words, three words, three words or you might start do it three words, four words, three words.

Putting your words and then have a play around putting it to music.

Right.

Let's have a look tabby what we're going to be doing today.

Let's have a look at what we're going to be doing today.

We're going to start off doing some shared reading because our role today is to explore the features of an explanation, reading it as if we were the writer.

So first of all we're going to do some shared reading.

And you can access what we are reading in the work area, print off and you can follow along at home.

And once we've read sections, we're going to be exploring them to see the language that is used within the text.

So that when we come to our own explanation text, we know the language that is needed.

So today you are going to need, an exercise book, a paper, a pencil, and you're amazing brain.

And if you'd like to, you can also print off the worksheets so you can read along at home.

Don't worry the words will be on the screen if you can't do it.

So you can just follow along with me.

Go and grab your resources now, and then press play once you are ready.

Now tabby cat just said to me that he's a little bit nervous about reading because sometimes he doesn't know what the word says.

So I said, we'll quickly recap our strategy check when we're reading.

So tabby cat, if you get to a word that you're not too sure about what you need to do is look up the sounds, say the sounds and blend them back together.

And then go back and read the sentence to check the word make sense.

And if it does, you can carry on.

Does that make you feel a bit better? Super.

So remember at home, you have to look at the sounds, say the sounds, blend them back together, and then go back and read the sentence to check it makes sense with your new word.

Super, right.

Make sure you've got your copy of text in front of you now if you've printed it off.

And remember that if you haven't, we're going to follow it on the screen together.

Now we'll go and have a look at our explanation text.

Can you remember the purpose of an explanation? It's to tell somebody how something is done, linking, can you remember those two words that we focused on in our books the cause and the effect.

Now in our lesson today, we're going to be focused on the same middle section we looked at in our books in the previous lesson.

So if you would like to, you can have a look at your books, but you don't need to look at the pictures because today we're going to be looking at how it's written down.

So how the cause and the effect is written down.

Now, first things first.

We're going to read the sentence on the board.

So get your reading finger ready and put it under the first word, which is if.

If.

Are we ready to go together? If the, this one of our tricky words if the s o i l.

S o i l.

Soil well done tabby cat.

If the soil is damp and warm then the b e a n.

B e a n.

Bean then the bean, that makes the sense, will come to life.

So our sentence says, if the soil is damp and warm then the bean will come to life.

Now I have colour coded already on the sentence, the cause and the effect.

So the cause is in pink and the effect is in purple.

So if the soil is damp and warm, so that's the cause.

That's the thing that happens.

And the word that links the cause and effect in this sentence is the word, then.

So if that happens, then this will happen.

So if the soil is damp and warm then the effect which you can see in purple happens.

The bean will come to life.

So while we're doing our explanation, when need to write our cause first, put one of the connectives in the middle and then the effect.

Connect the cause and the effect, and then you should use the next sentence to connect the cause and effect.

Let's have a go at our next one.

Now, as you can see on this sentence, I haven't colour coded it, but before we explore it let's have a read.

So reading finger on the word, when, just at the start of our sentence.

Are we ready? When sunlight shines, the, tricky word leaves come out.

As a result the p l a n t, p l a n t.

Plant well done.

As a result the plant, that makes sense, is able to make f o o d.

F o o d.

Food, amazing.

Once the light shines, the leaves come out.

As a result the plant is able to make food.

Now let's explore.

Can we find the cause? What is happening in our sentence? What is the cause? Let's see if you got it right.

It's when the sunlight shines.

So when the light shines, the leaves come out, that's the cause.

As a result, is our connective.

Connecting those two sentences.

It's connecting the cause and the effect.

So the effect of the sunlight shining is the plant is able to make food.

So in our previous one, we had then as our connective.

And in this one we've got, as a result.

So when sunlight shines, the leaves come out.

As a result the plant is able to make food.

Super.

Let's have a look at our next one.

Now I have given you the cause and the connective.

I want you to have a go at thinking about the effect.

The food leads to more growth so The food leads to more growth so what is the effect of it having more food and more growth? What happens? Can you remember? The plant gets bigger and bigger and taller and taller.

Well done.

That is the effect.

The effect of the food leading to more growth is that the plant gets bigger and taller.

And as you can see, we've got our other connective word in there.

We've had then, as a result and so.

These are our key words when we are looking through our explanation.

Well done.

So your task now is I would like you to pause the video, have a look at the work I've put into the file and see if you can identify all the cause and effects within the passage and identify the key words that link the sentences together.

So we've already found then, as a result and so.

But have a look and see if you can find any more.

Off you go.

Thank you for joining in with today's lesson.

And I hope you found it as interesting as I did.

Trying to find the connectives in our passage and linking the cause and effect.

Now I wonder, can we talk about our favourite part of today's lesson? My favourite part was linking the cause and effect with the connectives.

What was your favourite parts then tabby cat? Oh tabby cat's favourite part was creating our poem.

But what about you at home, could you tell the screen or your teddy bear, your favourite parts and put it into a full sentence.

So my favourite part was, off you go.

Thank you so much.

And tabby cat saying as you said, your favourite part was creating our poem.

I thought we could finish on singing our poem together again.

So I'm going to sit you there.

And I've got our poem here.

So can you remember it? It goes, Seeds are planted, sun shines bright, shoots grow up.

And we put it to the tune of London's burning.

So I'll sing it and join in if you can there, and then we'll sing it again all together.

So are you ready? ♪ Seeds are planted ♪ ♪ Sun shines bright ♪ ♪ Shoots grow up ♪ ♪ Shoots grow up ♪ Super.

But let's sing altogether.

Ready? ♪ Seeds are planted ♪ ♪ Sun shines bright ♪ ♪ Shoots grow up ♪ ♪ Shoots grow up ♪ Then once we've created our poem and put it to music, we can start to create some actions.

So we can go, ♪ Seeds are planted ♪ ♪ Sun shines bright ♪ ♪ Shoots grow up ♪ ♪ Shoots grow up ♪ Then you could join in with that one.

Let's go together.

One, two, three, ♪ Seeds are planted ♪ ♪ Sun shines bright ♪ ♪ Shoots grow up ♪ ♪ Shoots grow up ♪ Amazing.

And I challenge you at home to write your own poem, see if you can put it to music, and then add some actions because it makes learning really fun.

Thank you for joining today.

And I will see you in the next lesson of this unit.
