And throughout this unit, we're going to be exploring an explanation text.

Do you know at home, why we explore explanation? It's because it tells people how something happened.

And throughout the explanation we use words like because, so, and as a result of to show how each point links on to the next one.

So throughout this unit, we're going to explore explanations, and hopefully by the end we can create our own explanation text.

Let's have a look at what we're going to be doing today.

We're going to start off with some spellings, but then going to listen to the explanation.

And after we've listen too we're going to have a go reflecting on it and thinking about what we enjoyed about our explanation.

So today you are going to need some paper, a pencil and your amazing brain.

And of course your fabulous self.

Before we start our spellings, we would like to share our song with you.

Now, the focus of our explanation is how beans grow.

So we thought it'd be a nice idea to sing a song, linked to how beans grow.

So I'll do it and then you do it and then we can put it all together.

The focus of our spellings, this unit is common exception words.

Now we sometimes look at our common exceptional words, as tricky words, because we can't sound them out, we just got to know them.

So we look and we say.

Look and say.

And when we're spelling the words we use the letter names, not the letter sounds.

So that we don't get confused when trying to sound them out.

So to remind us the letter names before we look at our words, I'd like us to do the alphabet.

So hands on our shoulders, and every time we do a letter, we'll just tap our shoulders so we know we're moving on.

It's learning time! It's learning time! Look, listen, wow! Hi, My name is Professor Has Been, and I am here to explain to you how beans grow from a single bean to a beanstalk.

First, the bean is planted in the ground about two centimetres below the surface.

If the soil is damp and warm, when the bean will come to life, causing roots to grow down and a shoot comes up above the ground.

When sunlight shines on the shoot, leaves come out.

As ever told a plant is able to make food, from sunlight because leaves are able to do this.

Fascinating! The food leads to more and more growth of the roots and the shoots.

So the plant gets bigger and bigger, and taller and taller.

When the time is right little flowers appear, which attract bees with their nice smell.

The bees visit the flowers and leave a powder called pollen which amazingly, causes the flower to turn into a bean.

Finally when the beans are ripe, they can be picked and eaten or planted in the soil to make more beanstalks.

And that's how it works.

That's how a beanstalk grows, from a single bean.

Or, you could write a list of everything you would need if you were going to make your own beanstalk.
