Hi everyone, my name is Miss Toole, and in this lesson today, we are going to be finishing off writing our explanation piece on how Jack got rich, and we are basing it on the story of Jack and the beanstalk.

In today's lesson, we are going to review our explanation from yesterday, we're then going to continue that in our shared writing to finish our explanation of how Jack got rich, and then after that, we're going to get into role of our professor and retail the explanation on how Jack got rich.

So you are going to need pen and paper now, preferably lined so that you can do your writing and a pen or a pencil, your fabulous brain and your amazing self.

So press pause now while you go and get your resources, and then once you've got them, press play to carry on with today's lesson.

Before we review explanation from yesterday, I want us to recap the story of Jack and the beanstalk through our song.

Just that we remember the key points so that when we continue to do our writing today, we know what comes next.

So can you remember our song? Don't worry if not, we're going to sing it together anyway, and then we can sing it once more, once we refreshed ourselves with the lyrics.

Now we're refreshed with the story, we can cover it without explanation.

Can you remember the purpose for an explanation text? It's to explain how something happened, linking the cause and the effect.

And we had those words, which we called connectives that linked the cause and the effect.

Now, on the screen, I have got what I had written down in our previous lesson, so we're going to read through it together, recap our memory, ready for carrying on our writing today.

And then I would like you to pause the screen and have a go at reading your own, because I have a few bits yesterday that you could write on your own, so your words might be a little bit different to mine.

So are we ready? The title is "how Jack became rich", because that's the topic of our explanation.

we are explaining what happens to Jack, in order for him to get rich.

So our introduction starts with.

"Hi, my name is Professor Money, and I am here to explain how Jack became rich." And now we start to look at the cause and the effect, what happened and what was the effect in that? And how did that help Jack become rich? "First, Jack sold the cow for some beans because" so that word is our connective, "because he thought they were magic.

Jack's mom, wasn't happy.

So", that's one of our other connectives, "threw them out of the window." So we've got two lots of cause and effect there, we've got, getting the beans, because they were magic and we've got, Mom wasn't happy, so threw them out the window and that's how they link.

So pause the video now and have a read through what you did yesterday and see if it makes sense, and your cause and effect are linked.

Now that you've reviewed your explanation from yesterday, we're going to continue our shared write.

We've already explored the first two stages, so Jack got the magic beans, and mom threw them out of the window.

So I want you to think in the story, what's the next thing that happens that affects Jack becoming rich? So what is the next thing that happened in our story for Jack to become rich? Now, I have already started this sentence on the next slide, but I need your help in linking the cause and the effect together.

So, grab your work from yesterday, grab your pen or pencil, and we're going to continue our writing.

And by the end of today's lesson, we will have a full explanation on how Jack became rich.

When Jack and his mom woke the next day, there was a huge beanstalk, a huge beanstalk.

So, what happened to the huge beanstalk that helped Jack to get rich? And I want you to carry on this sentence for me.

So our next step in our process, if when Jack and his mom woke up, there was a huge beanstalk, so you're going to write that sentence and then using our connective words so, you're going to link the cause and effect, what happened next to help Jack become rich.

Did he just look at the beanstalk? Did he chop the beanstalk down? Or did he climb the beanstalk? So write the sentence down and then continue it to tell me what happened next.

Let's have a read over the sentence.

When Jack and his mom woke the next day, there was a huge beanstalk, so, I've written, Jack decided to climb it.

So we've got our cause and effect, there was a beanstalk, so Jack climbed it.

What happened next? So next, Jack got to the top of the beanstalk.

So at the top, Jack met, can you remember who Jack met at the top? He met an angel, good, great memory if you remembered that.

Who told him, can you remember what the angel told him? What did the angel tell Jack, I'll give you a clue, it was something about his dad and the giant, and think about why this would link to Jack becoming rich.

Jack met an angel at the top who, can you remember what the angel told him? The angel told him the giant killed his dad and stole his money.

So your next task is to write that sentence for me, at the top, Jack met an angel who told him that the giant killed his dad, and stole his money.

And I've added an extra sentence at the end of mine that says, "Jack was very angry about this." because that effects what Jack did next.

So pause the screen now, and write your next paragraph in our shared write about how Jack became rich.

What was the next step? When Jack and his mom woke the next day there was a huge beanstalk, so Jack decided to climb it.

At the top, Jack met an angel who told him that the giant killed his dad and stole his money.

Jack was very angry about this.

So now thinking about Jack being angry, what did he do? Let's explain what he did next to help him get rich.

Well, Jack at the top of the beanstalk, what did he do? And for this bit, we're going to do one of our loose sentences where we have an object, a comma, a object and another object.

So Jack stole the giants, can you remember the three things that Jack stole from the giant? He stole the giants money, comma, hen and the harp.

So, Jack stole the giants money, hen and harp, full stop at the end of that information.

Money, hen and harp.

So, then what happened next? When he had stolen the giants things, but then the giant woke.

So when the giant woke, can you remember what Jack did? And this was the last thing to help him get rich.

When the giant woke, comma, where did Jack go? Well remember, he ran down the beanstalk.

So Jack ran down the beanstalk, beanstalk, and what did he do to the beanstalk? He chopped it down, full stop.

Good, Jack chopped the beanstalk down.

Now this is where we're going to link our cause and effects.

We're going to choose one of our connectives.

As a result of this, so our connective is, as a result of this, what was the result of Jack chopping the beanstalk down? What happened? As a result of this, what happened to the giant? As a result of this, the giant, what did he do? Did he jump from the beanstalk? Did he stay in the clouds? What happened? He fell down, didn't he? So, as a result of this, the giant fell down, and, let's finish our explanation off.

That is how Jack, that's how Jack what? What was our explanation all about? What was our purpose? What we're we explaining? That is how Jack became rich.

Jack stole the giants money, chicken and harp.

When the giant woke, Jack ran down the beanstalk and chopped it down.

As a result of this, the giant fell down and that is how Jack became rich.

So your next task now is to finish off your explanation with the last stages on how Jack became rich, focusing on the cause and the effect and using our connectives in between, off you go.

How did you find finishing off your explanation, where you're able to put all the different steps into your explanation on how Jack became rich? You should now have a finished piece explaining how Jack became rich and you should also be really proud of yourself for having to go our shared write, and creating your own piece of writing, so well done.

When the giant woke, Jack ran down the beanstalk and chopped it down.

As a result of this, that giant fell down.

And that is how Jack became rich.
