Hello everyone, Miss Barron here and welcome to lesson seven in our unit on instructions.

Now in lesson six, we recycled our set of instructions that we've learnt about how to make a magic hat, and we changed them to make a whole new set of instructions about how to make a magic cloak, how to make a magic pair of shoes or how to make a different type of magic hat.

So I'm really excited for today's lesson.

When we're going to start writing the first part of our new set of instructions.

So this is what today's lesson is going to look like.

First, we are going to play an instructions creation game.

Then we're going to retell our recycled instructions using our boxing upgrades from lesson six.

Then we're going to do a bit of shared writing.

And finally, you are going to do a little bit of independent writing on your own.

So in today's lesson, you will need an exercise book or a piece of paper to write on.

A pen or pencil to write with, and your boxing upgrade from lesson six, if you have it.

So pause the video now and go and get those things if you need to.

Fantastic, you are back and ready to start the learning today.

Now we're going to start with our instructions game.

How to trap a mountain troll.

So we're going to put into practise all the things that we've learned about how to give clear instructions in the past few lessons.

And to help you give your instructions for how to trap a mountain troll.

I would like to invite an expert, Professor troll trapper to tell you how he would do it.

Good day, everybody.

My name is professor troll trapper, and I am here to tell you how to trap a mountain troll.

This is very important at the moment because mountain tolls are causing chaos on the mountain.

They are eating all of the mountain animals.

They are bashing down all of the mountain trees with their heavy feet.

And when they stomp stomp stomp on the mountain, they are causing the ground to shake.

This is making earthquakes, which is hurting the people at the bottom of the mountain.

We must stop the mountain troll.

So, this is what you will need to trap one.

You will need the song of a fairy, a jar of peanut butter, and a big shovel.

This is what you need to do.

First, sing the fairy song at the bottom of the mountain.

This is the password.

Once you've sang it.

Then you can climb up the mountain.

Next, reach the mountain trolls cave.

You will know when you've got there because it smells really strongly of cheese.

After that, dig a big deep pit with your shovel outside the mountain trolls cave.

Finally, spread peanut butter all of the way from the entrance of the mountain trolls cave to your pits.

Mountain trolls Love peanut butter.

So when they smell it, they will follow the trail.

When they get to the pits.

The last thing you must do is push them inside.

They will fall to the bottom and then you will have trapped your mountain troll.

So remember trap the mountain troll.

It is very important to save the animals, to save the trees and to save the people at the bottom of the mountain.

But to be careful, mountain trolls are very dangerous.

They are stronger than you.

So you must keep your wits about you.

Make sure they have their back to you before you push them into the pits.

That is how to trap a mountain troll.

Good luck to you.

So now you've heard professor troll trapper, tell you how he would catch a mountain troll.

I would like you to give your own set of instructions for how to do it.

Now you might like to use his ideas or you might like to make up your own.

So remember, first you need to say why, why do we need to catch the mountain troll? Then you need to tell people what they need after that, what to do.

And finally, what to be careful of.

Now use these words to help you order the steps when you tell people what to do first, next, then finally.

So have a go.

You might like to tell the same set of instructions as professor troll trapper, or you can make up your own ideas for how to catch a mountain troll.

Pause the video now and have a go.

So let's get onto the main parts of the lesson now.

In lesson six, you made up a new recycled set of instructions for either, how to make a magic cloak, how to make magic shoes or how to make a different type of magic hat.

And you boxed up those instructions in a boxing upgrade.

Just like the one I have behind me here.

So if you don't already have that with you, then pause the video and going get it.

Otherwise let's get on with telling our new set of instructions.

Hello everyone.

My name is the Shoemaker and I just love shoes.

In fact, I've brought along one of my favourite pairs to show you, these are my gold shiny boots, and I just love them.

They even match my jacket See.

Now, not only do I love shoes but I love making them too.

I make big shoes and small shoes, shiny shoes and sparkly shoes, gold shoes and purple shoes like my hair, but the very best pair of shoes to make are magic shoes.

When you put them on your feet, they take you wherever you want to go.

One day, they might take you to a tropical Island.

The next they might take you to the mountains.

Another, they might take you under the sea.

They take you wherever you want to go, but I'm the only person in the world who knows how to make them.

So shh don't tell anyone it's going to be our secret but I'm going to tell you how to make them today.

This is what you need.

You will need the horn of a faun, the tooth of a shark, the song of a fairy, the snot of a tree troll and the Queen's bathtub.

This is what you do.

First add the horn of the faun and the sharks tooth into the Queen's bathtub.

Then mix it altogether with the snot of a tree troll.

Finally sing a fairy song and the magic shoes will appear on your feet.

When they're on your feet, you will just look fantastic and you will feel amazing.

You will feel on top of the world and like you can do anything because these shoes will take you wherever you want to go.

That is how to make magic shoes.

So I would like you now to have a go at telling your new set of instructions, using your boxing upgrade to help you.

Like I just did.

You might like to tell it to role too.

Pause the video now and to have a go at that.

Fantastic job retelling your new set of instructions, using your boxing upgrades to help you.

So now that you've done that, and now that you've got your box upgrades at the ready, you are almost ready to start writing, but before we do that, let's just remind ourselves what we need to include as writers.

So let's sing our song first because that's really useful to remind us.

So let's sing our instruction song ready, sing with me.

Instructions, instructions.

How shall we do it? I said instructions, instructions How shall we do it? Explain what it is for.

Explain what you need, Explain what you do.

That's how you do it.

Brilliant well done.

So that song reminds us of the four key things we need to do.

When giving instructions, we need to say what it is, what it's for, what you need and what to do.

So we are going to remember those things when we're writing.

Now, in the green box, are a couple of other things that we need to remember too.

So let's just go through those.

We need to remember these words.

First, next, then, finally.

To order key steps, in our what to do section, we also need to remember to use imperative verbs.

Don't we? remember from lesson four imperative verbs that tell people what to do.

For example, mix, add, pour.

We might use the verb stir.

We are going to need to use short sentences to be very clear and precise.

Precise means exact.

We don't want people getting confused.

Do we? And finally, we are going to use numbers and bullet points.

I'll explain what they are when we start writing, to order things that we need and steps to be taken.

So let's put that into practise.

Shall we? As we start writing.

Okay, so let's start writing.

I'm excited.

Now read my title with me.

How to make magic shoes.

Your title might read the same way, or it might read how to make a magic hat or how to make a magic cloak.

But I would like you to wait until the end, to write your title because first you're going to help me write my introduction.

Now, how should I start? I want to write it in role.

Just like I told it.

So I'm going to start by introducing myself.

Now I'm making magic shoes.

So I'm a shoemaker.

I'm going to start with hello, My name is the shoemaker.

So let's say that together.

Ready? Hello.

My name is the shoemaker.

Let's count on our fingers.

Hello, My name is the Shoemaker.

So that's six words.

So let me just put six down here.

Hello.

Now I know I need to start with a capital letter.

Don't I? Hello, capital H.

Hello.

It's spelt like this.

Hello.

Now that's actually one sentence on its own.

And one word sentence.

Hello.

Now finger space, capital M for My, My is one of our tricky words.

Isn't it? My, my name, finger space.

My name is the, another one about tricky words.

My name is the Shoemaker.

Now watch me write this.

SHOO MM A split diagraph E K.

And then R on the end.

My name is the Shoemaker.

So you might write, hello.

My name is the Hatmaker or hello.

My name is the cloakmaker, or you might write the same as me.

Hello? My name is the Shoemaker.

Now we're going to write my next sentence.

You're going to help me.

I want to say what kind of shoes I make.

So I think I am going to say I make or sparkly shoes and shiny shoes.

I make sparkly shoes and shiny shoes.

Say that with me.

I make sparkly shoes and shiny shoes.

Count it on your fingers.

I make sparkly shoes and shiny shoes.

That's seven words.

So capital I, I on it's own is always a capital.

I make, M A split diagraph.

K In the middle.

I make, what did I say? Sparkly.

Sparkly.

SPARK and then it's that's happy E sound on the end.

Spelt with a Y I make sparkly shoes.

And, so I'm going to join my two ideas with and.

I make sparkly shoes and shiny shoes, shiny.

shiny shoes and shiny shoes.

Full stop.

Okay.

So now you've seen me write my first few sentences.

You're going to write yours and you're going to do it involved like I did.

So you will start.

Hello.

My name is, and then either the Shoemaker, the Hatmaker or the Cloakmaker.

And you've got your key words for that in blue boxes underneath my video.

Then you're going to go on to say what kinds of cloaks, hats or shoes you make.

So just like I did, I wrote, I make sparkly shoes and shiny shoes.

You can choose from one of the adjectives in the blue boxes at the bottom of your screen, or you might have a different idea.

Now you'll notice that there are two of those types of sentences.

There's another one underneath that's because I would like you to write another sentence, which has the same structure, but I'd like you to choose two more different adjectives.

So I might then go on to say, I make gold shoes and pink shoes.

So I'd like you to write another one with two different adjectives to say what other types of shoes or cloaks or hats you make.

So pause the video now and write your sentences.

Brilliant job.

Now, I asked you to write a second sentence.

Didn't I? Telling us what kind of shoes or, or cloaks, or hats you make.

Now, Here's my second sentence.

Read it with me.

I make gold shoes and pink shoes.

Now let's read my writing so far from the start.

Read it with me.

Hello.

My name is the Shoemaker.

I make sparkly shoes and shiny shoes.

I make gold shoes and pink shoes.

I really like the repetition of those two sentences because I think it's catchy for the reader.

Now, I'm going to write my next sentence.

I'm going to write the best shoes to make are magic shoes.

Say it out loud with me the best shoes to make are magic shoes.

Let's count it on our fingers, the best shoes to make are magic shoes.

Eight words.

Now I've been forgetting to check the number of words haven't I? So I'm going to do that this time, the best shoes to make are magic shoes.

So capital T the best, sound it out with me, Best the best shoes we know how to write that by now the best shoes to make M A E split diagraph, K to make are magic shoes magic.

M A G I C it spells magic.

the best shoes to make are magic shoes.

And what do I need on the end of my sentence? A full stop.

Thank you for reminding me.

Now let's count the number of words and check they are eight.

the best shoes to make are magic shoes.

That's eight.

Isn't it? The best shoes to make are magic shoes.

Fantastic.

So I can put a little tick there.

Now.

I am going to write a sentence to say what they are for.

remember, we need that in our introduction.

Don't we? we need to say what the cloak or the hat or the shoes are for.

So I'm going to say, when you put them on, they will take you wherever you want to go.

Now that's a long sentence.

When you put them on, they will take you wherever you want to go.

Let's count it on our fingers.

When you put them on, they will take you wherever you want to go.

14 words.

Oh my goodness.

Right.

Watch me start the sentence.

Capital W when you put them on they will take A E split diagraph K They will take you where there's one of our spelling words.

Isn't it? When you put them on, they will you where lots of tricky words in the sentence where you want to go.

Right, let's read it back.

When you put them on, they will take you where you want to go.

Is that 14 words.

Let's check.

When you put them on, they will take you where there's all my 10 fingers.

You want to go 14 words.

Yes.

And lots of are tricky words.

Some of them are spelling words from this week.

So now it's your turn to write your two sentences.

So the first one will start.

The best to M make is or are.

So for example, I wrote the best shoes to make are magic shoes.

You might write.

The best clothes to make is a magic cloak or the best hat to make is a magic hat.

Then your next sentence will start when you put it or them on it or they will.

And then you can use the words in the blue boxes at the bottom of your screen to help you.

So remember the magic hats gives you what you want most.

The magic shoes take you wherever you want to go.

And the magic cloak makes you invisible.

Now I haven't written invisible in that last blue box.

I thought you could have a go at sounding it's out.

Do your best.

It doesn't matter if you make some mistakes, mistakes are what help to make the learning great.

Remember, so pause the video now and have it go of writing those two sentences.

Brilliant job.

Now we're ready to move on and give a bit more detail, a bit more information about what our magic object is for.

Now, the magic shoes take you where you want to go.

So I now want to list some places they might take you.

So first, I'm going to say one day they might take you to a tropical Island, tropical Island.

One day, they might take you to a tropical Island.

So finger space, capital O for one O N E spells one, doesn't it? one D a one day.

They, they might M I triagraph.

One day.

They might A split diagraph A K one day they might take you to a tropical or let's sound that one out together, T R O P I C tropical tropical ending A L one day, they might take you to a tropical.

Now Island is tricky.

It has a silent S after the I islands, there it is.

One day they might take you to a tropical island.

full stop.

Now, my next sentence is going to say, one day they might take you to the mountains.

So I'm going to start one day again.

One day they might, M I G H T might A K you to the mountains, mountains, tricky one spell.

Watch me write it, Mountains.

So one day they might take you to the mountains.

Oh, I need a full stop at the end of my sentence.

Don't I? And then I'm going to say one more place.

They might take you.

So I'm going to start this sentence with another, watch me write it Capital A another.

Another, Another day they Another day they They might M I Take you, now I want to say Under the sea under the S E E, see So , let's read my last few sentences.

One day, they might take you to a tropical Island.

One day.

They might take you to the mountains.

Another day.

They might take you under the sea.

Now it's your turn to write your sentences, adding a bit more detail about what's your magic item is for.

So if it's a magic hat, your sentences will be about what it can give you.

If it's magic shoes, they will be about where they can take you.

And if it's a magic cloak, your sentences will be about what you can do or where you can go when you're invisible wearing it.

So there are some words in the blue boxes at the bottom of this screen, to help you.

If you need them, you might like to use completely different ideas.

The words in the boxes are sea as in under the sea.

lollipops, fireworks, Island.

The word I used in my sentences.

Mountains.

Again, I use that word Didn't I? take and give.

So I would like you to have a go at writing your three sentences now.

Pause the video and do that Amazing job you are back and ready to move on to your final sentence, which is your independent sentence.

Now I would like you to write a final sentence, which starts, learn how to make my magic.

So hat, shoes, or cloak, and you will be and you're going to finish by choosing one of the feeding words in the blue boxes on the screen.

So you might choose the word amazed.

You might choose the word astonished.

Astonished means the same as amazed.

You might choose the word delighted.

And we know what that word means from monkeys and hats.

Delighted means really, really happy.

Doesn't it? And finally impressed.

Impressed.

So have a think about which one of those words you will use.

So my sentence might be, learn how to make my magic shoes, and you will be astonished.

Pause the video now and write your sentence.

Remember to five finger check it afterwards, and finally just like all great writers.

We need to edit our work.

So first you are going to read it back.

Then, you're going to think about SAD standing for swap, add, delete.

Is there anything you would swap, anything you would add or anything you would delete, take out and finally, five finger check your work.

So pause the video now and do that.

So that brings us to the end of our learning today, writing the opening of our new set of instructions.

I've really enjoyed today's lesson.

I wonder what your favourite moment was.

My favourite moment was writing about the different places.

My magic shoes can take you.

I wonder what your favourite moment was.

Can you tell me now? tell me to your screen.

Say my favourite moment was go and tell your screen.

Fantastic to hear.

Well, I'm really looking forward to the next lesson.

When we're going to continue writing our set of instructions.

We're going to be writing about what you need next.

So see you in the next lesson.

Bye.
