Hello everyone, Miss Barron here and welcome to lesson nine in our unit on instructions.

Now you can see that I am wearing my paper cone hat that I told you how to make at the end of lesson eight.

I wonder if any of you had a go at making one.

Now let's start today by singing our instruction song.

I think you know it's so well by now.

Ready to sing with me? Let's go.

♪ Instructions instructions ♪ ♪ How shall we do it ♪ ♪ I said instructions instructions ♪ ♪ How shall we do it ♪ ♪ Explain what it is for ♪ ♪ Explain what you need ♪ ♪ Explain what you do ♪ ♪ That's how you do it ♪ Brilliant, well done.

I had to work really hard then so that my hat didn't fall off my head.

Okay, so let's get on with the learning today, shall we? I'll tell you what we're going to be doing.

In today's lesson, we are going to continue writing our new set of recycled instructions, telling you either how to make a magic cloak, how to make a different type of magic hat, or how to make magic shoes.

In today's lesson, we are going to finish writing our what-to-do section.

So this is what we're going to do in a bit more detail.

First, we are going to retell that section of our instructions using our boxing-up grids to help us.

Then we are going to come up with a song because remember, we need a song at the end of our what-to-do section so that our item appears.

We are going to do some shared writing, and then you're going to have a go at writing one or two sentences on your own.

So this is what you're going to need.

You will need an exercise book or a piece of paper to write on.

You'll need a pen or a pencil to write with, and you will need your boxing-up grid and your writing that you've already done from lesson seven and eight.

So pause the video now and go and get those things if you need to.

Amazing job, well done.

You are back and ready to start the learning today.

So let's begin by retelling the sections that we are going to write today using our boxing-up grid to help us.

So I've got mine here with me and you should have yours there with you.

Now then remember, mine looks different from yours because mine is full of my own ideas.

Yours is full of your own ideas.

Now I am going to show you how to retell the section we are going to write today using my boxing-up grid to help me and you can follow because it's on the screen.

Now then, so I'm going to start with my what-to-do section.

How to make magic shoes.

This is what you do.

First, add the horn and the tooth to the Queen's bathtub.

Then mix it together with the snot of a tree troll.

Finally sing the fairy song.

And we need to come up with our song today, don't we? Now we are going to do that in just a moment.

So I would like you to pause the video now and tell your what-to-do section using your boxing-up grid to help you, because that is the section we are going to write today.

So pause the video now and do that.

So now you've reminded yourselves what you're going to write in your what-to-do section.

We need to come up with a song to finish that section, don't we? Do you remember when we gave our instructions for how to make a magic hat? We had to finish our what-to-do section with the song of a mermaid.

Now for your new set of instructions, you might want to do the song of a mermaid too, or you might want the song of a fairy or the song of a harp.

So we are going to remind ourselves what the song of the mermaid is, and then I'm going to teach you the song of the fairy and the song of the harp.

You might like to use my songs that I teach you, or you might like to change them to make them your own for your set of instructions.

Now, let's sing them, shall we? So that we can hear what they sound like.

Let's start with the song of a mermaid because we already know that song, don't we? From when we gave our instructions for how to make a magic hat.

So join in with me as soon as you can.

Ready? ♪ I am a mermaid from the deep blue sea ♪ ♪ Don't you want some magic like me ♪ ♪ My tail is full of magic you see ♪ ♪ That's why there's magic in the deep blue sea ♪ Let's sing it again.

Join in with me again.

This time, make sure you're doing the actions too.

Ready? ♪ I am a mermaid from the deep blue sea ♪ ♪ Don't you want some magic like me ♪ ♪ My tail is full of magic you see ♪ ♪ That's why there's magic in the deep blue sea ♪ So that is the song of the mermaid and you might want that for your set of instructions.

Now, let me teach you the song of a fairy in case you chose a fairy for your set of instructions like me.

So this is the song of a fairy.

Join in with me when you can.

♪ I am a fairy from the forest tree ♪ ♪ Don't you want some magic like me ♪ ♪ My wings are full of magic you see ♪ ♪ That's why there's magic in the forest tree ♪ Sing that song with me again.

So you'll notice, same tune and we've just changed some of the words, haven't we? So join in with me, try and do the actions too.

Ready? ♪ I am a fairy from the forest tree ♪ ♪ Don't you want some magic like me ♪ ♪ My wings are full of magic you see ♪ ♪ That's why there's magic in the forest tree ♪ Fantastic.

So you might like to use that song for your set of instructions.

Now, let's sing the song of a harp, shall we? Now you might like to use this one, so have a listen and join in with me when you can.

It's going to be the same tune.

Ready? ♪ I am a harp from the land of glee ♪ ♪ Don't you want some magic like me ♪ ♪ My strings are full of magic you see ♪ ♪ That's why there's magic in the land of glee ♪ Now, sing it with me again.

Join in with me.

♪ I am a harp from the land of glee ♪ ♪ Don't you want some magic like me ♪ ♪ My strings are full of magic you see ♪ ♪ That's why there's magic in the land of glee ♪ So that was my song of a harp.

You might like to use that for your set of instructions.

Now you can see that the tune is the same for all of the songs, and I've just changed a few words and phrases to make them different each time.

So you might like to use one of my songs or you might like to change it a bit more and make it more of your own.

So let's just sing all of them, one after the other, all the way through.

Ready? Sing with me, to remind us, let's go.

♪ I am a mermaid from the deep blue sea ♪ ♪ Don't you want some magic like me? ♪ ♪ My tail is full of magic you see ♪ ♪ That's why there's magic in the deep blue sea ♪ Fairy song now, ready? ♪ I am a fairy from the forest tree ♪ ♪ Don't you want some magic like me ♪ ♪ My wings are full of magic you see ♪ ♪ That's why there's magic in the forest tree ♪ Harp song now, ready? ♪ I am a harp from the land of glee ♪ ♪ Don't you want some magic like me ♪ ♪ My strings are full of magic you see ♪ ♪ That's why there's magic in the land of glee ♪ Well done.

So now, we're going to use those songs later in today's lesson.

But let's finish writing the first part of our what-to-do section first.

Okay, so now we're ready to start writing.

Make sure you've got your boxing-up grid in front of you, just like I have.

It's going to really help you with your writing today.

Now the first thing that we are going to do is to read back the last sentence we wrote in lesson eight.

That's really important so we know where we left off and where to carry on from.

So in lesson eight, we started writing our what-you-do section, didn't we? So read my first sentence with me.

First, add the horn and the tooth to the Queen's bath tub.

So that's the first thing you do in my set of instructions to make magic shoes.

Now you'll notice that I have done a small edit here.

I have changed the word Queen, which I started before with a small Q, with a lowercase Q to now have a capital Q.

And that is because I have the word the in front of it.

So because I've said the Queen's bathtub, that means I'm talking about one specific queen, one queen in particular.

I'm thinking about our Queen, the Queen of our country.

So she needs a capital Q.

If it was to a queen's bathtub, then I could just write a small Q because I'm talking about any queen, just a queen.

It could be any queen in the world.

But because I'm talking about our Queen, it needs to have a capital Q.

Now let's move on to our next sentence.

So what's the next thing that you need to do in my set of instructions? So this is the picture telling me what to do next.

Now what can I see in that picture? It's mixing it together with tree troll snot, isn't it? So my sentence is going to be, next I'm going to start it with the word next to show that it is the second step.

Next, and I'm going to choose the imperative verb mix.

Next, mix it all together with the snot of a tree troll.

That's my sentence.

Say it out loud with me, next, mix it all together with the snot of a tree troll.

Now count it on your fingers.

Ready? Let's go.

Next, mix it all together with the snot of a tree troll.

How many words is that? Go on tell me through your screen.

Well done, it's 12, isn't it? So next, mix it all together with the snot of a tree troll.

12 words.

I'm just going to write 12 down here to remind me.

Okay, now I'm going to start with the number two because it's the second thing you need to do.

Next, capital N to start my sentence.

N / e / x / t, next, finger space, mix sound it out with me.

Mix, mix it all, watch how I write all.

All, A double L, all together.

Now we can break this word down into syllables.

So to / ge / ther, three syllables.

To / geth / er.

Now let's do to, we know how to write to.

It's one of our tricky words, isn't it? To / geth / g / e / th / geth / to / geth / er / er / er.

There we go, spelt E-R.

Next, mix it all together with w / i / th with the, the, T-H-E spells the, the snot, sound it out with me.

S / n / o / t, snot.

Next, mix it all together with the snot of a tree, sound that tree with me.

Tree, t / r/ ee, tree.

Tree troll, troll sound out troll with me.

T / r / o / ll and it's two Ls on the end of troll.

And I'll cross my T.

What do I need at the end of my sentence? Well done, a full stop.

Let's read it back to check it makes sense.

Next, mix it all together with the snot of a tree troll.

Is that 12 words? Let's check.

Next, mix it all together with the snot of a tree troll.

Yes it is, those are my 12 words.

So that is my sentence.

Now you're going to write yours.

Now for your sentence, you might have chosen the snot of a tree troll like me, or you might have chosen the snot of a witch or the snot of a panda, or you might have had your own idea that's different.

You're now going to write your sentence.

So start with next or then, those words are in the blue box for you.

Then choose your imperative verb, I chose mix.

You could use that one too or you might want to choose stir.

Stir means the same thing, doesn't it? So next, or then, mix or stir it all together with the snot of a mm, whatever it is in your set of instructions.

So pause the video now and do that.

And now we're ready to write the third and final step in our what-to-do section.

So let's just check our boxing-up grid so we know what that is.

Here it is on mine.

Finally, sing the song of a fairy.

So that's going to be my sentence.

Finally, I'm going to use the word finally to start my sentence because it's the last step.

Finally, and then here's my imperative verb, sing, telling people what to do.

Finally sing the song of a fairy.

So let's say that out loud together, ready? Finally sing the song of a fairy.

Count it on your fingers with me.

Let's go.

Finally, sing the song of a fairy.

How many words is that? Tell your screen now.

Brilliant, it's seven, isn't it? Right, so let's just jot seven down there.

So I'm going to now write the number three because it's the third step in my what-to-do section.

So what was my sentence again? Finally sing the song of a fairy.

Finally.

Right, watch me write finally, it's a tricky one to spell.

Capital F at the start of my sentence.

Finally.

Finally, finally sing, sound out sing with me.

S / i / ng, sing the, we are so good at spelling the tricky word the.

Now, finally sing the song, sound out song with me.

S / o / ng, song of a fairy, okay, you can sound out fairy with me.

Happy E sound, spelled with a Y like on the end of happy.

Finally sing the song of a fairy.

And what do I need at the end of my sentence? A full stop, don't I? Now, let's just check it's seven words.

Finally, so count on your fingers with me.

Finally, sing the song of a fairy.

Seven words, brilliant.

So that is my last step in my what-to-do section, but now I need to write the song of the fairy, don't I? So people know what to sing.

So you are going to have a go at writing the song yourself for your set of instructions.

Now you can see on the screen, I have given you some sentence stems to help you.

So ♪ I am a mm from the mm ♪ ♪ Do you want some magic like me ♪ ♪ My mm ♪ Is or are, ♪ Full of magic you see ♪ ♪ That's why there's magic in the mm ♪ So all you have to do is take those sentence stems and then fill in the blanks with whatever it is that you would like for your set of instructions.

So before you do that, let's just practise singing the three songs again.

The mermaid song, the fairy song, and the harp song to remind us.

So sing with me, are you ready? ♪ I am a mermaid from the deep blue sea ♪ ♪ Do you want some magic like me ♪ ♪ My tail is full of magic you see ♪ ♪ That's why there's magic in the deep blue sea ♪ Now the fairy song, ready? ♪ I am a fairy from the forest tree ♪ ♪ Do you want some magic like me ♪ ♪ My wings are full of magic you see ♪ ♪ That's why there's magic in the forest tree ♪ And finally the harp song.

Ready? Let's go.

♪ I am a harp from the land of glee ♪ ♪ Do you want some magic like me ♪ ♪ My strings are full of magic you see ♪ ♪ That's why there's magic in the land of glee ♪ Brilliant.

So you can use those as they are, as we just sang them or you might want to change them a little bit to make them more your own if you'd like to.

So I would like you to have a go now at writing your song for your set of instructions.

Pause the video and do that.

So here's an extra challenge for you today if you want to go above and beyond with your writing.

The challenge is, can you add an adverb to your sentences today to tell people how to do these things? Now, remember we came across adverbs at the end of lesson four, didn't we? I wonder if you can remember.

Now an adverb adds detail to the verb, the clue is in the name, adverb.

It adds detail or information to the verb to tell people how to do what we're telling them to do.

So let's have a look at some adverbs in the blue box at the bottom of your screen.

Gently, quickly, carefully, softly, sweetly, loudly.

So those are all adverbs that tell people how to do verbs.

So let's have a look at the first sentence on the screen and you can see there is a blank space and that's where you can put an adverb that would make sense in.

So let's have a look.

Next, mm mix it all together with the snot of a tree troll.

So we're going to put our adverb before the imperative verb.

Now how are we going to tell people to mix it all together? Are we going to tell them to do it gently? Are we going to tell them to do it loudly? Are we going to tell them to do it quickly? Which one makes sense there? I think I'm going to choose quickly for my sentence.

So my sentence is going to now be, next, quickly mix it all together with the snot of a tree troll.

I want people to do it quickly.

So that's going to be my sentence there.

Now let's have a look at the next sentence.

Finally, mm sing the song of a mermaid.

How do we want them to sing that song? Do we want them to sing it gently, softly, sweetly, loudly? Which one of those would you like to choose? I think for my sentence, I'm going to choose softly.

I want them to sing it softly.

So my sentence is going to be, finally, softly sing the song of a mermaid.

So I would like you to have a go now at your challenge, Which of those adverbs would you add to your sentences that you've already written before the imperative verbs? Pause the video now, and have a go at editing your sentences with adverbs.

So that brings us to the end of our lesson today.

I am really interested to read the song that you wrote for your set of instructions, and I can't wait to read them at the end of this unit.

So I will say goodbye to you for now and look forward to seeing you in our last lesson on this unit when we're going to finish writing our set of instructions and performing them in lesson 10.
