Hello super storytellers and welcome to this English lesson.
My name is Miss Cashin and this is lesson three of this unit where we are writing an information text all about witches.
In this lesson you've already learned about the ice witch you are now going to create your very own witch.
And then we're going to label our witch with some descriptive phrases so we know what they look like and what's really frightening about them.
If you've watched some of my videos before, you might notice that I am somewhere different.
You might even remember where it is that I am.
Can you take a guess where I am? I am at my mum's house.
I love visiting my mom.
I was really excited to be able to do an English lesson here.
I can't wait to see the witches that you are going to create today, so let's get started.
We're going to start a lesson with a spelling activity.
Then we're going to create our very own witch.
We're going to use all of our imagination and creativity to come up with a really exciting creature.
Then we're going to read some descriptive phrases, all about different witches.
Then you're going to draw your very own witch and label your which with descriptive phrases.
I can't wait to see the witches that you create.
So these are the things you're going to need in today's lesson.
You're going to need an exercise book or a piece of paper.
And it would be amazing if you could get some plain paper, so you can draw an amazing witch.
You're going to need something to write with, a pen or a pencil, and you're going to need your brilliant brain, of course, especially for creating your own witch.

So let's get started with our spellings.
In our spellings today, we are learning about common exception words, which we looked at in lesson one of this unit.
Remember common exception words, words which are common.
We use them all the time, but they're exception words.
They don't always follow our sounds, and they don't always follow our spelling rules, so we just need to know them.
Let's have a look at our first common exception word.
Have a look with your magnet eyes.

I have only met one witch.
Super.
Now I think that only looks like it would be only, but it's only, so we to remember that long O sound.
Let's say the letters that are here in our common exception word.

Let's have a look at our next common exception word.

Now any starts with an A.
It sounds like it should start with an E for any, but it starts with an A, so we just need to remember that.
Let's say the letters.

So when you get to any think A-N-Y, fantastic.
Let's have a look at our last common exception word for today.
Ooh, have a look.
Can you say it? I heard so many super readers.

The ocean witch lives in the water.

Now, where is the unusual spelling in water? W-A.
It's got an A sound but it makes an O sound.
Water.
So we need to just remember that it has an A.
W-A-T-E-R, say the letters with me.

Right, we're now ready for our spelling activity.
I have got our three words here, but some of them that's are missing.
And they are some of those tricky letters that you have to remember.
So we've got only, any, and water.
See if you can fill in the missing letters, remembering when the spelling might not be what you think it is.

We are now going to create our very own witch.
I hope that you've got your imagination and your creativity all ready to go so that we can start thinking about the witch that you are going to create.
Now, my witch lived in an ice world.
Remember that ice witches are most likely found on the North pole or the South pole.
So we are going to decide, where does your which live? And, and that will really help you to create that witch.
My ice witch had icicles for hair and transparent skin like ice.
So when we go through these things today, we're going to think about what our witches might look like based on where they live, and even what powers they have.
Now, when I draw my witch later my witch is going to be a boy.
So when you're thinking this through today, you might have a girl witch, or you might have a boy witch, or you might wait until you get to drawing your witch and you can decide.
Okay.
So the first picture I've got here is of a forest.
If you were creating a forest witch, what might their hair look like? Might look like autumn leaves.
Might look like bark.
It might look like soil.
What might their clothes look like? Well, that might be made of bark as well.
They might have clothes that make them blend in with the background.
Loads of ideas we could have.
I wonder what their fingers would be like.
Would they be like trees as well? In fact, I think Baba Yaga that we learned about in unit four, she was a bit of a forest witch.
So that's our forest witch.
You could create a forest witch today.
A dessert.
Dessert witch.
What might a desert witch look like? What might their skin be like? Can you give me some ideas? What may their skin be like? I heard some children say that their skin might be rough to touch like sand.
So whereas my skin is quite soft, their skin might be really rough and course.
What might their clothes be like? Can you give me some ideas? I heard some learners say that their clothes might be completely brown.
No greenery on it's at all, no life.
Just completely brown and quite dull.
I wonder what their hair might be like.
If they were a desert witch, what kind of hair might they have? Can you give me some ideas? I heard some learners say that their hair could be in a constant sandstorm on the top of their head.
That would be quite incredible.
So you've had some ideas for a forest witch, and for a desert witch.
What a sort of place is this? It's a city.
I live in a city.
I wonder what a city witch would be like.
What powers might a city witch have? What powers might they have? Can you give me some ideas? What powers might they have? I heard some learners say that they might be able to climb these really tall buildings.
I heard some learners say that they might be dressed in black with bits that light up on their outfits.
We've had loads of ideas for a city witch as well.
Let's have a look.
We've had a forest witch, a desert witch and a city witch.
An ocean witch, what an exciting idea.
Kind of like a mermaid, but a witch.
So, if our witch lived under the sea, what's kind of clothes might our witch wear? If they lived under the sea, how would you tell it was an ocean witch? Can you tell me? So many amazing ideas? I heard some people say that the ocean witch would have clothes made entirely of scales.
I heard some learners say that their ocean witch would be made of rock and coral.
They would be decorated in a beautiful, colourful coral.
I heard some learners say that they would have actual fish hanging off their clothes.
I wonder the ocean witch, what do you think their eyes would look like? What would that look like? I remember that my ice witch had completely white eyes, didn't have any pupils.
What might be ocean witch have? Can you give me some ideas? I heard some learners say that their eyes would look like swirling whirlpools.
So if you looked into their eyes, they're moving the whole time.
I heard some learners say that that eyes would be blue and then green, and then silver, a bit like the sea is always changing colour.
The last one, what might their hair be like? Can you give me some ideas? What would the ocean witch's hair be like? Oh my goodness.
So many brilliant ideas.
I heard a learner say that they might have hair made of seaweed.
Fantastic ideas.
Okay.
We've had a forest witch, a desert witch, a city witch and an ocean witch.
Four really amazing witches.
Let's see where our last witch might live.
Now, I've already had my forest so where did I guess this witch could live? That's right, on top of a mountain.
A mountain witch.
Baba Yaga lived near a mountain, but she wasn't a mountain witch, she was more of a forest witch.
So if a witch lived on top of a mountain, what special powers might they have? What might they be able to do if they were a mountain witch? Can you give me some ideas? So many incredible ideas.
I heard somebody say that they would fly, but not on a broomstick.
They would fly like an Eagle does because Eagles are often found on top of mountains.
So this witch might have actual wings.
I heard somebody say that they would be able to climb up those rocks, like they were just walking down the street.
So they could just walk up then they wouldn't look like it was hard for them to do.
So many fantastic ideas.
So now I want you to make a decision about your witch.
I've got two sentences here that you need to complete.
You might just say them out loud, or you might write them down.
So I am going to create a, witch.
So I am going to create a forest witch, or I am going to create a city witch.
They will live and then tell me, where is your which going to live? So have a think.
Which witch did you think was the most exciting? Or have you thought of a different place that you're witch could live? So pause the video to complete these sentences.

So, can you tell me? I heard so many incredible ideas.
We've got some forest twitches, some city witches, some desert witches, some ocean witches and even some witches that live on top of a mountain.
How amazing.

We are now going to read some descriptive phrases about some different witches to see if we can identify the descriptive phrase.
So when you describe your which today we are going to create some expanded noun phrases.
Now, when we create an expanding noun phrase, we always start with the noun.
And we know noun is a thing, a person or a place.
So I've got to noun here.
Can you read this noun? Can you tell me? Hair.
Hair.
And we know that it's going to be really important for us to describe the witch's hair.
So this is our noun, and we're going to add an adjective that modifies that noun.
That means it changes what the noun means.
If we had long hair, that gives us one picture.
If I said short hair, that gives us another picture.
So let's have a look.
Long hair.
I've added an objective to my noun, so now it is an expanded noun phrase.
This time I've added two adjectives.
You can do this for an expansive noun phrase as well.
This one says long, silver hair.
So that would be a really, really good one for a witch, especially in ice witch, you might have silver hair.
So here, I've got my two adjectives long and silver.
They've both modified my noun, hair, so I've got a different picture than I did at the beginning when the only thing I had was hair.
Long, silver hair, I can really imagine that witch's hair.
And I've got a comma in between those two adjectives.
I've got another noun here.
Can you read it to me? Nose.
Nose.
Point your nose.

So that's my noun, it is a thing.
I'm going to add an adjective to it.
Crooked nose.
Can you see that? Crooked nose.
That would be a great way to describe a witch's nose.
A crooked nose.
Now if I was going to put this in a sentence, I would say, the witch has a crooked nose.
The witch has a crooked nose.
If I was to do that sentence, a needs to be part of my expanded mound phrase.
A is a word which we call it a determiner.
So, a crooked nose is my expanded noun phrase.
If I wanted to, I could expand my noun phrase even more by putting in a crooked, water-filled nose.
That could be another way that I could add another adjective.
So now we're going to see some descriptive phrases about some new witches, and see if we can identify in the sentence where are the descriptive phrases.
I've got my first descriptive sentence here, all about forest witch.
So I'm going to read it twice and then we're going to look for that descriptive phrase, that expanded noun phrase.

The forest witch has red, golden hair.
That sounds beautiful like autumn leaves.
The forest witch has red, golden hair.

My noun is skin and I've used the adjective rough to modify my noun.
And there's actually a longer descriptive phrase here that you might like to use when you describe your witch 'cause like I said, rough skin like sand.
So I've of added as simile there as well so you can really imagine what the skin feels like.

This one was a little bit of a trick.
So there are two expanded noun phrases.
I've described the arms as long and stretchy, and I've also describe the buildings as tall.

So our noun in scales and we've described them a shimmering.

I'm going to start reading.

He can soar like an eagle.
Amazing.
I'm going to read it again.

There it is, enormous, strong wings.
I've described the wings as enormous and strong so I've put a comma in between them.
You have done so well at spotting descriptive phrases, so now you're going to watch me draw my witch and label it with descriptive phrases.
And then you will draw your very own witch and label it with descriptive phrases.
I have already drawn my ice witch.
So I am all ready to go with my descriptive phrases.
So I want to really think about his face first.
So he has hair made a long icicles, maybe delicate icicles, maybe shimmering or blue icicles.
I quite like delicate 'cause that makes it sound like there's a most of them.
So I'm going to put delicate icicles.
We know that my ice witch has long sharp talons and I really like that description.
So I'm going to put long, sharp talons.
And I have my comma because I have two adjectives in my expanded noun phrase.
Now I've got the transparent skin or the see through skin.
I'm going to put transparent.
And in that I can see the veins inside.
So transparent skin, and I'm not sure how to describe the veins.
I might say veins like wires.
Quite like that simile.
Gives me an idea of what the veins might look like.
I'm going to stop there, but when you described your witch you might look at the eyes, white eyes, the thin grey lips, the clothes and even their feet.
Now that you've seen me or my witch and label it with descriptive phrases, it's time for you to do the same.
Remember you can have any descriptive phrase that you would like.
So if you would like to have a simile, that would be amazing.
But most of our descriptive phrases are going to be expanded noun phrases.
And I've given you some examples here.
So you could describe their hair, their teeth, their eyes, their clothes, their arms, their lips.
So there are so many nouns that you could describe when you're thinking about your witch.
And I've also shown you there in pink that if you're using two adjectives in your expanded noun phrase, you need to separate them with a comma.
So you can pause the video now and go and draw your witch.
