Hello super story tellers and welcome to this English lesson.

My name is Ms Cashin and this is lesson eight of our unit where we're learning about information text.

Can you remind me what information texts are we writing, what are they about? I had so many amazing learner's say that they are about witches.

And today you are going to start writing, your very own information texts for our amazing book, all about witches.

So let's have a look at which bits we're going to write today.

We're going to start stays lesson with a spelling activity, then we're going to use our box plan from lesson six.

If you have it to talk through two sections, the introduction and then the witch's appearance.

Then we're going to write our introduction and then we're going to write about the witches appearance.

So by the end of our lesson today, you will have already written two sections.

These are the things that you're going to need our lessons day.

You're going to need an exercise book or a piece of paper, and it'd be amazing if you had some aligned paper to make your information text extra neat and fantastic.

You could also get your box plan from lesson six, if you have it,.

You are going to need something to write with a pen or a pencil and you going to need, of course your brilliant brain, but hopefully you already have that.

So let's get started with our spellings, for our spelling learning today, we are going to consolidate and review a spelling that we have already looked at in one of our earlier units.

If you weren't here for one of our earlier units, that's absolutely fine, you can still give it a go.

So we are going to be looking at contractions, which is when we take two words and we contract them into one word and we use an apostrophe to show that that word is a contraction.

So let's have a look at this sentence and see if we can figure out what is the missing contraction.

Very scared of the ice witch.

Very scared of the ice witch.

I remember what the contraction is it.

I'm very scared of the ice witch, I am.

I am.

I am.

So I am as a contraction of the words I am and they become I'm.

Have a think, how do you spell I'm and where does the apostrophe go? Pause the video and see if you can write this sentence with the word I'm at the start.

Let's have a look at that spelling.

There it is, I'm very scared of the ice witch.

I apostrophe M We know that the apostrophe goes where the A would have gone.

Pause the video and see if you spelled this contraction correctly and give yourself a tick.

And if you made a mistake, you can correct it now.

There we go, I upset them in case they turned me to ice.

I upset them.

I remember I won't upset them in case they turned me to ice.

Won't, won't, won't.

And won't is contraction of the two words, will not, I will not upset them.

I won't upset them.

So our apostrophe goes where O would have gone in not.

Here we go, When I saw one, I believe my eyes.

What's the missing word there.

When I saw one, I believe my eyes.

Can you tell me? I couldn't believe my eyes couldn't.

couldn't, couldn't and couldn't is a contraction of the two words.

Could not, couldn't.

Now you're going to watch me talk through the introduction and a section about the witches appearance with my box plan and then you're going to do the same.

If you did lesson six of this unit with me, you will have your box plan and that is really going to help you today when you do your writing set.

I am going to talk through just the first two sections today, which we are going to be writing about, and they are the instruction and appearance.

So I'm going to fold over my box plan, so those are the only bits there's that I'm looking at.

Now why do I do practised talking through my box plan a few times.

So when you go and talk through your box plan, you might do it more than once, so you're totally ready for your writing.

So we're going to start with the introduction, and we know that the purpose of the introduction is to introduce the witch and my witch is an ice witch.

There are a lot of different witches in the world, there are forest witches, ocean witches, and even city witches.

There are kind witches, but also wicked witches.

One of the most magical witches is in the world is the ice witch.

And I am going to tell you about them in this information text.

Okay, I spoke to the present tense and we had some descriptive phrases there for my different witches.

So really pleased with that.

Okay, next we're going to talk about the appearance of my witch, we know the perhaps if the appearance section is to give really clear information about what the witch looks like.

Here we go.

The ice witch is very hard to see because their skin is almost completely transparent.

Their eyes are completely white, and they have thin grey lips, which never smile.

Their hair is made of solid, but delicate icicles.

They have sharp talons on their hands and feet, which they use to stand up in the snow.

They always wear completely white clothes so they are hard to see in the snow, but they never wear warm clothes because they love to feel the harsh wind on their face.

I'm going to write down harsh actually, cause I didn't have that before.

And that's an important part of why they like to ask summery clothes because they really, they don't want to wear or do anything.

They love to feel the harsh wind on their face and the snow crunching beneath their feet.

So I've just added that there.

Now that you've watched me talk through my box plan, it's time for to do the same.

Remembering you need to think about what you're going to say in your writing.

You can say it out loud and you can also jot down some key words or any other important information as you go through.

I've got some sentence starters as to help you and remember we're only talking through the introduction and the appearance section.

So our sentence then say, there are lots of, so you can say there is a lots of different witches in the world.

One of the most magical is or you could say one of the most interesting is or my favourite is.

Then we're going to move on to appearance So they have, what do they have on their face? What is their body like? And they wear.

so you can now pause the video and going talk through with your box plan.

we are now ready to start our writing.

So I'm going to write an introduction now that lets the reader know what the text is about.

So it introduces that witch.

And then you will have a go at writing your very own introduction.

I am all ready to write my introduction now, and I've already written my subheading, introduction and my first sentence, which I use my box plan to help me with.

There are lots of different witches is in the world.

What's my next sentence? I remember there are forest witches, ocean witches and even city witches.

There are capital T.

There are forest withes.

I'm listing different sorts of witches.

So no need use of comma there are forest witches, ocean witches, and even city witches even Oh I remember even is one of my tricky words I just need to know it it doesn't follow our sounds at the beginning.

It only has one E.

There we go, there are forest witches, ocean witches and even city witches.

City, witches full stop.

There are kind witches, but also wicked witches.

So there are there are kind witches.

Then I'm going to use conjunction, but, to compare them to the wicked witches, but also wicked witches.

Okay.

So I have written one, two, three sentences telling my reader about witches, but I haven't introduced the ice witch yet.

So I'm going to say, I am going to tell you about.

I'm going to tell you that's one of our tricky words, you just need to know Y-O-U I am going to tell you about one of my favourite witches, one of the most interesting witches, the most fascinating witches or I like to say a magical witch.

I'm going to tell you about a truly magical witch.

I'm going to, oh, I haven't said ice witch here.

I am going to tell you about a truly magical witch called the ice witch.

Called.

Called, the Ice Witch.

Oh no, I put a capital I and a capital W for ice witch because it's the name of the type of witch, but it's not, it's not an actual name or a title, is it? The ice witch might have their own name.

So we're going to cross those out and correct them.

I'm going to read it back to myself now and check if I'm happy that I've got my capital letters and full stops in the right place.

And that it's in the present tense.

There are lots of different witches in the world.

There are forest witches, ocean witches and even city witches.

There are kind witches, but also wicked witches.

I am going to tell you about a truly magical witch called the ice switch.

Now that you've watched me write my introduction, is time for you to write your introduction all about your very own witch.

so I've given you the first sentence here that you can use if you like to.

It says, there are lots of different witches is in the world.

There's a toolkit here to help you with your writing as well.

Think to yourself have I got my capital letters and correct punctuation.

So usually a full stop.

When you read it back to yourself think does it make sense? Am I in the present tense and in pink I've got our most important question.

Have you introduced your witch? So make sure you've got your box plan and you can pause the video now to go and do your writing.

Well done, super story tellers, you have done your first part of your very own information text.

Now I'm going to write my appearance section and then you will write your appearance section.

So I've already written my subheading, appearance, and I've got my box plan to help me.

So I'm going to start with the ice witches transparent skin.

So am going to say, the ice witch has transparent skin, So they are very hard to see.

Okay, the ice witch, capital T.

The ice witch, has I want say in the present tense, the ice witch has transparent skin, their skin is like ice really, isn't it? Cause ice is transparent, has transparent skin.

And then again, you use the conjunction, so to extend that sentence, the ice witch has transparent skin.

So, they are very hard to see.

They that's one of our tricky words.

We just need to know T-H-E-Y.

So they are very hard to see.

full stop.

The ice witch has transparent skin, so they are very hard to see.

Now I'm going to move on to their face.

So I say, they have completely white eyes and thin grey lips.

I really like thin grey lips because that expanded noun phrase has two objectives to build a really clear picture of what the witch looks like.

Okay.

They have, They have H-A-V-E another one of our words We just need to know.

They have completely white eyes.

Completely, white eyes and thin thin grey lips.

full stop.

Okay.

What about their clothes? Their clothes are always white they've got a sharp talons.

I can even describe that next.

So I'm going to say, their nails are like sharp talons or their nails are sharp talons, which they use to dig through the snow.

Their nails.

So their T-H-E-I-R because the nails belong to them, Their nails are sharp, sharp talons which they use to dig in the snow.

So I'm going to extend that sentence again.

W-H-I-C-H, which they use to dig in the snow.

Full stop.

Now that you've seen me write my appearance section, it's time for you to write yours all about what your witch looks like.

So I've given you some sentence starters to help you, the witch has, so you could put the forest witch has, and then I put they wear, so you can remember to talk about their clothes.

Here's your toolkit.

Remember capital letters and correct punctuation, usually a full stop.

Think to yourself does it make sense? Is it in the present tense? How have I used those brilliant descriptive phrases so that my reader knows what the witch looks like? And that's in pink, cause that's our most important question, that is the purpose of our appearance section.

So you can pause the video now to go and let your reader know what your amazing witch looks like.

And I'm going to think about the present tense.

So I have added a few more sentences to my appearance section.

So let's have a read of what I added.

They wear white clothes, they never warm clothes.

Their hair is made of delicate, beautiful icicles.

I'm really pleased with that expanded noun phrase.

I've decided that I am going to improve this sentence.

They never wear warm clothes.

And I'm going to extend it with a conjunction.

So I'm going to put a star here and I'm going to rewrite it here.

And I'm going to use the conjunction because.

They never wear warm clothes, they never wear warm clothes because, and I think that's going to be a really great and extra information that I'm giving my reader.

They never wear warm clothes because they love to feel, feel the harsh wind.

So I've improved that sentence.
