Hello, super storytellers.

And welcome to this English lesson.

My name is Ms. Cashin, and this is lesson nine of our unit, all about information texts.

We know that we have been learning lots about giving really clear information about witches.

You have already created your own witch, and we've already written our introduction paragraph in lesson eight.

And we wrote about the witch's appearance in lesson eight, as well.

Today, I am very excited because we are going to write about the witch's habitat.

That means where they live.

So let's see what we're going to get up to in this lesson, so we're ready to write our next part of our information text.

We're going to start today's lesson with a game.

Then we're going to have a really careful think about our witch's habitat and the choices we've already made about it.

Then we're going to talk through our habitat section with our box plan from lesson six.

If you don't have it, that's absolutely fine.

Then we're going to write our habitat section so that our readers know all about where our witch lives.

So in this lesson you need an exercise book, or a piece of paper.

And it would be amazing if you had some lined paper so that your writing is fantastically neat.

You could even get the piece of paper that you wrote your instruction and appearance section on, so that you could carry on your writing.

You might also want to get your box plan from lesson six.

You're going to need something to write with, a pen or a pencil.

And, of course, you're going to need your brilliant brain.

So if you need to go and get any of those things, you can pause the video now and go and get them.

Well done, superstars.

Let's get started with our game.

I've got here our tongue twister that some of you might have done with me in lesson two of this unit.

Let's see if we can remind ourselves.

If two witches we're watching two watches, which witch would watch which watch? If two witches we're watching two watches, which witch would watch which watch? See if you can join in with me and we'll see how fast we can do this.

If two witches we're watching two watches, which witch would watch which watch? If two witches we're watching two watches, which witch would watch which watch? If two witches we're watching two watches, which witch would watch which watch? If two witches we're watching two watches, which witch would watch which watch? If two witches we're watching two watches, which witch would watch which watch? If two witches we're watching two watches, which witch would watch which watch? It's so hard to do.

I wonder if you can sing it with me.

So you're thinking not just about the words, but also the tune.

We're going to learn the song together.

My turn and then your turn.

So I'll sing it and you listen, and then we can sing it together.

♪ If two witches we're watching two watches ♪ ♪ If two witches we're watching two watches ♪ ♪ Which witch would watch which watch ♪ ♪ Which witch would watch which watch ♪ One more time.

♪ If two witches we're watching two watches ♪ ♪ If two witches we're watching two watches ♪ ♪ Which witch would watch which watch ♪ ♪ Which witch would watch which watch ♪ Brilliant singing, I'm going to do it the whole way through.

And I'm going to see how fast I can sing it.

And you can join in if you would like.

So I'll start slow and I'll build it up.

Okay, here we go.

♪ If two witches we're watching two watches ♪ ♪ Which witch would watch which watch ♪ ♪ If two witches we're watching two watches ♪ ♪ Which witch would watch which watch ♪ ♪ If two witches we're watching two watches ♪ ♪ Which witch would watch which watch ♪ ♪ If two witches we're watching two watches ♪ ♪ Which witch would watch which watch ♪ ♪ If two witches we're watching two watches ♪ ♪ Which witch would watch which watch ♪ ♪ If two witches we're watching two watches ♪ ♪ Which witch would watch which watch ♪ ♪ If two witches we're watching two watches ♪ ♪ Which witch would watch which watch ♪ ♪ If two witches we're watching two watches ♪ ♪ Which witch would watch which watch ♪ Oh my goodness.

Now that we've warmed ourselves up with a game and a song, we can have a think about our witch's habitat.

Remember you have made your own choices through this unit about where your witch lives and what sort of home they have.

So I'm going to ask you some questions about that now.

And we'll see what our answers are.

Here is my first question.

Where in the world does your witch live? Have a careful think.

Where in the world are they? Are they in a forest? Are they in a desert? Are they in a city? Do you know which country they're in? Where in the world does your witch live.

Can you tell me? Wow, super storytellers, we've got so many different witch's from all over the world.

Our book, "All About Witches," is going to be amazing.

Here is my next question.

How do they create their home? Now I know that my witch, the Ice Witch, creates their home by clawing away at the snow and the ice with their sharp taloned feet, and creating a burrow.

So how does your witch create their home? Do they make it themselves? Do they use special powers? Do animals make it for them? Do they use some kind of spell? Have a think.

Okay, how do they create their home? Can you tell me? Our witches are so creative.

And they have so many different sorts of homes.

I heard somebody say that their witch creates a home in a tree that they bite with their teeth.

So many amazing ideas.

Last question, just to remind ourselves of those choices that we've made.

What is the inside of their home like? Now I know that the burrow under the ice that the Ice Witch lives in sounds like quite a sad place to live, but we know that they decorate it with those beautiful, intricate patterns in the ice.

So think about your witch.

What is the inside of their home like? What does it look like? Have they created any of it themselves? Is it a nice place to be? Is it not a very nice place to be? Have a careful think.

Okay, what is the inside of their home like? Can you tell me? So many amazing ideas, some really colourful witches' homes.

Some really dark witches' homes.

Some are really big, some are really small, some are really cosy, and some are not nice places to be at all.

Well done, superstars.

Now you're going to watch me talk through my habitat section with my box plan.

And then you can have a go at doing the same.

If you did lesson six of this unit with me, you will have your brilliant box plan, which tells us what we're going to write in each section of our information text.

Now in lesson eight of this unit, we wrote our introduction.

And we wrote about the witch's appearance.

In today's lesson, we know already we're going to be writing about the habitat.

And the purpose of this section is to tell the reader where the witch lives.

And I've got some words to help me.

I wrote, "they love, they dig," so I'm in the present tense.

I wrote, "sharp talons and beautiful patterns." So now I'm going to talk through my plan.

The Ice Witch usually lives in the North or the South Pole.

They love it in these parts of the world, because it's always cold.

Sometimes they fly to other countries when it's snowing there.

They dig burrows to live in with their sharp talons.

Inside, they decorate their burrow with beautiful, intricate patterns.

Now it's time for you to talk through your box plan.

Remember to have a careful think about your witch's habitat.

Talk through what you want to write.

And you can even jot down some extra descriptive phrases if you would like to.

I've given you some sentence starters here to get you going.

I've got, they live in.

Their home is.

And inside their home.

So you can pause the video now to go and talk through your box plan.

Well done, super storytellers.

Now you're going to write your habitat section.

So I'm going to write mine first, and then you will have a go.

I've got my subheading habitat here and I've got my box plan.

So I know that I'm going to start with explaining where in the world they are, because that is the purpose of my habitat section, to give the reader lots of clear information about where the witch lives.

So I'm going to start with, Ice witches usually live in the North or South Pole.

So Ice witches usually live, capital I for ice.

Ice witches, so here's witch, and I want to say witches, more than one witch.

I'm going to add E-S.

Ice witches live, oh, Ice witches usually.

Live in the North or South Pole.

And I need a capital N for North, because it's the name of a place.

Ice witches usually live in the North or South Pole.

Full stop.

They love, that's what I wanted to say next.

They love living there because it is so cold.

Okay, they love.

One of those tricky words we just need to know.

T-H-E-Y.

They love living there.

Because it is so cold, full stop.

Okay, I said where in the world they are and why they like it.

Now I'm going to talk about their home itself.

So, they dig burrows under the ice with their sharp talons.

They dig.

They dig burrows under.

Under the ice.

And I want to say, "With their sharp talons." With, one of those tricky words we just need to know.

W-I-T-H, with their, T-H-E-I-R, 'cause it's their talons.

With their sharp talons.

Let me read that back.

They dig burrows under the ice with their sharp talons.

And then I'm going to finish off with inside.

They decorate or, oh, I thought of a better verb I could use.

They carve, that tells me that they're doing it with their claws.

Inside they carve beautiful patterns.

Inside they carve.

Beautiful, B-E-A-utiful.

And I want to keep that word intricate that I've been using.

I really like that, beautiful, intricate patterns.

And I've got a comma there for my.

Oh, hang on, try that again with better handwriting.

I've got a comma there for my two adjectives in this expanding noun phrase.

Oh, much better Ms. Cashin, full stop.

Okay, I'm going to read it back.

Ice witches usually live in the North or South Pole.

They love living there because it is so cold.

They dig burrows under the ice with their sharp talons.

Inside they carve beautiful, intricate patterns.

Now it's time for you to write your habitat section.

And I've given you the beginning of a sentence here.

The mm witch lives in.

So I said the Ice witch usually lives in the North or South Pole.

When you go through, make sure to use your box plan.

And there's a toolkit here to help you as well.

So think carefully about your capital letters and correct punctuation.

Usually a full stop.

Read back each sentence and think, "Does it make sense?" Have I written in the present tense so it sounds like what is happening is continuously happening? The Ice witches or your witch is alive right now.

Have you included descriptive phrases, and the most important question, does the reader know where the witch lives? Because the information you've given them is so clear.

So pause the video now to go into your habitat writing.

Well done, superstars, you have written all about your witch's habitat.

Absolutely fantastic.

I wonder if you have the energy for the challenge when we're going to see if we can improve one sentence in your writing.

I'm going to have a go in a moment.

And I'm going to be thinking about, have I got all my correct punctuation? Could I add any description? Could I extend any sentences using a conjunction, like, and, but, so, or because? And have I written in the present tense? I've decided to extend this sentence.

Inside they carve beautiful, intricate patterns.

Using the wrong pen there, silly Ms. Cashin.

There we go, there's my lovely pen back.

I'm going to extend it with the conjunction 'because,' so I'm going to cross out my full stop.

Inside they carve beautiful, intricate patterns because, and I'm going to say, "Because they enjoy looking at them." So the Ice witches created a lovely home for themselves.

So when they're at home all day singing their song, they can look at that beautiful pattern.

So I'm going to say, "Because they "enjoy looking" They enjoy looking at them.

And then I've given my reader a little bit more information about the Ice witch.

Now, it's time for you to see if you can improve one of your sentences.

So pause the video now to go and read through your habitat section one last time.

Well done, superstars, you have worked so hard in today's English lesson and your information text must be absolutely amazing now, well done.
