Hi everyone and welcome to a history lesson with me, Miss Emms. Let's get started so we can see exactly what we're going to be doing today.
Okay.
So in today's lesson, this is our key question.
Where does our food come from? And this is lesson two of two.
So hopefully you've already been able to watch lesson one where we thought about how food has changed over the last 60 years.
And today we're going to be thinking about were in the world our food comes from.
And you're learning with me, Miss Emms. So, our agenda.
We're going to start off with some star words.
So some important words that we need to understand, in today's lesson.
Then it will be a quick recap of the unit so far.
So of the things we've learned about so far in changes within living memory, and then we're going to move on to our timeline and then where our food comes from, before we have an end of lesson quiz to see what you've been able to remember from today's learning.
So you'll need three things in this lesson.
You'll need some paper, you'll need a pencil and you will need your brain.
You've got your brain, it's ready.
It's ready to go.
You need to get your paper and your pencil.
Pause the video now to go and get those things.
Well done.
So, these are our star words.
My turn, your turn, star words, star words, star words.
Well done.
The first star word is food.
Your turn.
And food is the main topic of today's lesson.
We're learning about where our food comes from across the world.
That's our next star word.
My turn, your turn.
World.
Well done.
And then, the last star word is continents.
You may have learned at school already that there are seven continents in the world.
We're not going to be thinking about Antarctica today.
Because there are not a lot of permanent residents in Antarctica.
So we're going to be thinking about food from the other six continents.
Okay? Right, a quick recap.
So we learned that this is how music has changed over the last 60 years.
We used to listen to music with cassettes, then CDs, then MP3 players, and now smartphones.
And we learned about toys and how toys have changed.
We learned that toys used to be made from wood and then plastic was more of a popular material to make toys from.
And finally, electronic toys, which are the most modern.
And we arranged these toys from oldest to most modern.
We had the rocking horse the most as the oldest followed by the LEGO, well done, followed by the video or computer game.
Good job, everyone.
After that, we learned the options for eating in restaurants and ordering food to be delivered, have increased or decreased over the last 60 years? Tell your screen, you're right, increased over the last 60 years.
That means that we have more options now for eating in restaurants and ordering food to be delivered, than we did 60 years ago.
Okay.
So here is our timeline.
We've seen this in our lessons already, so I'm just going to show you quite quickly.
So you can see that we are in 2020, today, and we are thinking about the last 60 years.
So a period of time that is within living memory.
That means that we can ask our grandparents, parents and carers about which foods they ate.
And here is a timeline of the last 60 years bringing us up to the year that we're in today, which is 2020.
Okay.
Let's move on to thinking now about food from around the world.
And we are going to have a look at some examples of foods from around the world.
Now, lot's of people have moved to England from all over the world, and that's amazing.
That means that we are able to enjoy food from all over the world.
We're going to have a look of some examples of really popular dishes or dishes that come from different parts of the world.
Okay, we're going to start off with North America, the continent of North America.
So here you can see a map of North America.
Now in North America, you'll recognise and probably quite enjoying quite a lot of the foods that we talk about in today's lessons.
And that doesn't mean that you can't have a burger that's from a different continent, but generally the hamburger or beef burger is a food that has come from North America and is very popular in North America.
So we've got burgers, we've got fried chicken.
That's come from North America, as well.
And a dish that you might have tried called macaroni cheese and also a dessert or pudding, brownies.
So these are four examples of foods that have come largely from North America and you might be thinking, "Wow, I love a lot of those foods".
So we have North America to thank for a lot of those foods that we enjoy now.
Can you name one food which comes from North America? You're going to say it to your screen.
Hmm comes from North America.
Off you go.
Great, well done.
Here's a reminder of what you could have had.
Okay.
Not lets think about South America.
What's the continent? South America, well done.
So again, there were lots of options, but some of the foods that are popular that have come from South America, something called ceviche.
So lots of seafood.
This is an empanada, pastry that's filled with delicious things inside.
We've got chorizo.
And steak.
So these are four examples of foods that have come from South America that generally, we like to eat here today.
Can you remember the name of one food, which comes from South America? You're going to say hmm comes from South America.
Tell your screen, well done.
A reminder of the options that you could have had.
Okay, well done everyone.
Let's move on to Africa, the continent of Africa.
So let's have a look at some of the foods that have come from Africa, which we like to eat.
We have got lots of very delicious rice dishes.
And this one is called jollof rice, another rice dish here that we've got, and you can see that there are meat and there are pieces of meat and vegetables in this rice dish.
And lots really delicious types of marinades for chicken.
So you can probably recognise picture of these chicken drumsticks.
And in Africa, there are lots of different.
In the continent of Africa, lots of different ways of serving these chicken drumsticks.
And then we've got meat, stews.
Again with vegetables, but lots of different, really delicious meat stews that have come from the continent of Africa.
Have a look carefully before I test you on the next slide.
Great.
So can you name one food, which comes from the continent of Africa? You are going to say hmm comes from Africa.
Your turn.
Well done.
And here's a reminder of some of the foods that you could have said.
Amazing, well done, everyone.
Let's move on to Europe now.
So the United Kingdom is part of Europe.
We're you going to have a think about some foods that are popular and have come from different parts of Europe.
Pasta, again, I eat quite a lot of pasta.
I'm sure you might eat some pasta too.
Now pasta is a food that's come, traditionally, from Italy, a country in Europe.
As well as pizza.
So you've got pasta and pizza.
You might have had a croissant before coming from France in Europe.
And then some really delicious sausages coming from lots of different countries over Europe, but traditionally Germany.
So here you've got four different types of foods coming from different parts of Europe.
Have a careful look.
Great, well done.
Can you tell your screen now, can you name one food, which comes from Europe.
You're going to say hmm comes from Europe? Your turn.
Amazing.
And here's a reminder of what you could have had.
Great, well done.
And now on to Asia.
And we're going to look at some of the foods that come from Asia that we love to eat in this country.
We have got some delicious noodles, sushi.
Okay, a bowl of, this is called ramen.
So bowl of soup that has lots of delicious things inside.
Vegetables and noodles.
And another kind of noodles and this one is called pad thai, a delicious dish that's really popular in Asia and has come from the continent of Asia.
Okay, have a look carefully.
Great.
Now, can you tell your screen hmm comes from Asia? Pause the video and tell your screen now.
Amazing, well done.
Here's a reminder of the different foods that you could have said.
Great.
And finally Australasia, the continent of Australasia.
Let's have a look.
These foods are popular and come from Australasia.
Australasia.
We've got a really delicious dessert, it's called pavlova.
So made from meringues, cream and fruit, pavlova.
Your turn.
Roast lamb is traditionally a dish that comes from Australasia.
Fish and chips, traditionally a dish that comes from Australasia.

Have a careful look.

Now, can you name some food which comes from Australasia? Tell your screen hmm comes from Australasia.
Well done.
Here's a reminder of what you could have had.
Fantastic.
And now it's going to be time for your end of lesson quiz.
You've tried really hard today.
You should feel really proud.
Give yourself a big awesome cheer, my turn first.
Awesome.
Your turn.
