Pupils' understanding of the importance of India and the way in which it was governed, will be built upon through their future studies of the East India Company (Y8) and the growth of Empire (Y9).

Pupils will already have an understanding of the Empire and conquests from their studies of medieval Mali (Y7) and the expansion of English settlers in the Americas (Y8). Pupils will also have an understanding of the importance of trade, as informed by their knowledge of the trade links developed across Europe during the Crusades (Y7).
