Hello everyone.
This is my cat and he's come to join us today.
This is Mr. Cash.
Can you say hello to Mr. Cash for me.
He's saying hello to everybody.
Hello Cash.
He's going to do some maths with us today.
So today we are going to be learning to subtract a two-digit number and some ones.
We were learning all about two-digit numbers and today we're going to be subtracting.
Now let's have a look.
In today's lesson, the lesson three, we have the topic of addition and subtraction.
You will need a paper and some pencil.
There are times when you will have to pause the video to have a go at some of the activities yourself.
Now let's get started.
We're going to be looking at a quick starting quiz, some key vocabulary as star words, identifying the two digit numbers and ones, creating subtraction sentences and using two digit numbers and ones.
An independent task and answers.
And finally a quiz to see what we have learnt.
Now, I want you to pause the video to complete your start of lesson quiz.
Star words star words.
When I say the word, then I want you to say after me.
Subtract, take away.
Can you show me the action for subtract and take away is just one line.
And now we're going to have a look at the difference between difference between, Oh he wants to have a go with some of the star words as well.
Part.
He wants to have a go, can you say part too and whole.
Here we have four numbers.
Can you say the four numbers with me.
The four numbers.
Some of these numbers are two digit numbers.
Whilst we're saying them I want you to have a think of the numbers.
So nine 57, 22, 63.
Which numbers are two digits? Can you shout them out to me? Super.
You've remembered that a two digit numbers have two numbers.
So the two digit numbers are 57, 22 and 63.
Oh, did you get that too? Great work.
Now we have another equation, but this time it's subtraction.
Let's read it together.
49 take away three is equal to Here is a bead string.
What number is showing? Remember each colour makes 10.
So let's count in tens 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, but we need the number 49.
What could we do? That's right.
We could take one away.
Everybody.
Let's do it together.
Take one away.
Let's see.
Let's take it away.
There we go.
That's much better 49.
But this time we have to subtract three from our bead string.
We need to go backwards.
Why do you think we need to go backwards? Can you tell me.
Great explanations.
We need to come backward because we are subtracting and taking away.
So the number gets smaller.
So let's take away three.
One, two, three.
49 take away three.
Now let's look on the bead string.
Let's find out the answer.
Let's count 10 20, 30, 40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45, 46.
The answer is 46.
Did you get the same as me? Super counting.
Now let's see if you can help me with another subtraction equation.
This time we've got the part-whole model to help us.
How about this one? So 58 take away or subtract six is equal to Let's say it again.
58 subtract six is equal to What strategies could we use to find out the answer? Which ways would be the quickest? Can you shout them out so I can hear you.
Super work.
I loved your responses.
I think I heard a great one.
Use our number knowledge to find out the answer.
We can have a look at the ones.
We can look at eight ones takeaway or subtract six ones.
So let's look at the whole part-whole model.
Eight subtract six.
How can we take it away? Everyone show me eight fingers.
And now we need to take away six.
Are you ready? One, two, three, four, five, six.
How many are left? Two.
Did you get two ones as well? Super.
So eight take away six is equal to two.
Now we know that we need to find the answer to 58 take away six.
So we already know that 58 has five tens and eight ones.
But we changed the eight ones by taking away six.
Remember we've just taken away a six and we were left with two ones.
So now we need to change the eight ones to two ones.
Can you put to the eight ones? Now let's change it to two ones.
Super.
What do we need to do with the tens? Do we need to change them? No, you're right.
We've already taken away the six.
We don't need to take away anymore.
So here we've got a 58.
We've taken away the six.
So that leaves us with our two ones, but the tens stay the same.
We haven't taken them away.
So that means 58 take away six is equal to 52.
The five tens stay the same, but the two ones have changed from eight subtract two.
So the answer is, let's say it together.
52.
58 subtract six is equal to 52.
Here we've got a different number equation.
56 takeaway four this time.
So 56 takeaway four.
What is the missing number? How do you know? I want you to think for a moment and try and recap what we've just done.
Let's see if we can remember together.
In our previous subtraction sentence, we subtracted the ones and left the tens.
So maybe we need to do that again because we didn't need to touch the tens.
And we only took away the ones.
That means we need to find out what is six take away four.
To give us six takeaway four.
Can you help me to work that out? Super job.
Let's do it together.
So six takeaway four, let's take away our four.
One, two, three, four.
The answer is two.
Super.
Six take away four is equal to two.
Now that means if we keep the tens the same, we can still have five groups of 10.
The 10 stay the same because we're not taking away any tens only the ones.
So we've got two ones and we've got five tens.
What could that make? We've got five tens and two ones.
Could you show out the answer? I couldn't hear you.
Could you shout it out? Super.
Five tens and two ones makes 52.
So the answer to 56 subtract four is equal to 52.
Super job everybody.
I think you're ready for an independent task.
Here we've got 69 as the whole and the part is eight.
We need to find the answers.
69 subtract eight.
We've got some missing number equations as well.
I think you're super ready for that.
Once you've completed those, then you could go to task two.
Task two this time you've got 36 as the whole.
Then you need to fill out the equations.
Make sure you check your answers and look at the parts to help you.
Great work everybody.
Now let's look at the answers.
Before we look at the answers, I've got a super challenge for you.
Do you think you're ready for a challenge? Great work everybody.
Have a look at the missing numbers and I want you to sort those out.
Here are the answers.
Did you get to correct? Super duper on task one.
Did you get them correct for task two? Great work everybody.
And you did the challenge wow I am so proud of you.
Give yourselves a big whoosh.
That's the end of our lesson.
I hope you had lots of super duper maths fun.
Now I want you to complete your end of lesson quiz and thinking about all of the number knowledge and all of the skills you've just learned, and I will see you tomorrow.
Bye.
