Welcome back to unit on time.

Today, we are going to be converting between weeks, months and years.

So it's that time again to put on your hats, tighten your ties.

And tell the computer, now I'm a mathematician.

Let's get started.

Here is our lesson agenda for today.

First, we're going to quick do now, before doing our exploring, converting time, and then independent task and quiz.

But before we get started, please make sure you have the following resources.

For this lesson, you'll need a pencil, a piece of paper and a ruler.

Here is your do now.

On the left-hand side you can see there's a column for the 12 hour clock, and on the right hand side, you can see there's a column for the 24 hour clock.

What you need to do is to convert each time either from 12 hour to 24 hour, or from 24 hour to 12 hour.

Let's go through these answers together.

So 12:28 AM is going to be 02:28 'cause remember the hours from zero all the way up to 12, are morning and 13 all the way back to 23, and then changing to 24 and 00 is our evening.

14:02 is going to be 4:02 PM.

Please remember that PM is very important because it tells us it's in the afternoon.

11:12 PM becomes 23:12, 12:08 AM becomes 00:08 and last but not least 07:28 becomes 7:28 in the morning.

So in this lesson, we are going to be using these facts.

One year is equal to 12 months, and one week is equal to seven days.

How many months in a year? How many days in a week? Oh, I can't quite hear you then you need to be a little bit louder.

How many months in a year? How many days in a week? That's right.

There are 12 months in one year and seven days in one week.

So what we're going to do is in many tasks is we're going to match up the equivalent times.

Let's have a look at the first one together.

One year.

We know that one year there are 12 months so we can match up one year and 12 months.

Do the rest on your end.

So pause this video, and do some matching up.

Great job.

So our next one is 36 months.

Now, if I know there are 12 months in one year then if I add another 12, it becomes 24 months.

So two years is equal to 24 months.

So it's three years is equal to 36 months.

Now another way of doing this is doing a 3 times table, because if we want to work out how many months there are in three years we would do 3x12 and 3x12 is equal to 36.

One week.

Hmm.

How many days in a week? Well done.

There are seven days in a week.

How about how many days in two weeks? We just have to do 7+7 or 7x2 which is equal to 14.

Here we have 21 days.

Well, if we know that in seven, sorry.

In one week there are seven days and two weeks have 14 days and three weeks is going to be 21 days.

Here we have 28 days.

Well, 21+7 is equals 28.

So it's going to be four weeks.

24 months.

Well 24 months is just 12x2.

And there are 12 months in one year, so we know it's two years and last but not least 48 months in four years.

Great job everyone.

So here we're going to teach some converting in time and we need to convert three years and two months into months.

Well, I know that in one year there are 12 months.

So in two years there are 24 months because we've just done 12x2.

So in three years.

We're going to do 12x3, which is equal to 36.

So in three years, there are 36 months, but have we finished? Mm-mm.

We need to add on that two months.

So 36+2 is equal to 38 months, therefore, three years and two months is 38 months.

29 months in years.

Well, we know there are 12 months in one year.

We know there are 24 months in two years and we know the difference between 24 and 29 is five months.

So the answer is two years and five months.

So we need to convert seven weeks and four days into days.

We know one week there are seven days.

So in two weeks there are 14 days.

So what we need to do is in seven weeks there are 49 days because 7+7+7+7+7+7+7 or 7x7 is equal to 49 and then we need to add four more days so it becomes 53 days.

So seven weeks and four days in days is 53 days 45 days in weeks.

So we know there are 14 days in two weeks.

Use this to help yourself to answer.

So if there are 14 days in two weeks there are 28 days in four weeks.

There are 42 days in six weeks.

Have we got to 45 yet though? No, we have not.

The difference between 42 and 45 days is three days.

Therefore, 45 days in weeks is six weeks and three days.

So what you need to do for your independent task is that you're going to convert days into weeks weeks into days, months into years and years into months you're going to complete this table.

You can see here that I've completed the first question for you.

26 days is the same as three weeks and five days.

So pause this video and complete the cut table.
