Hi, I'm Miss Davis.
In this lesson, we're going to be applying the four operations to different questions.
Drawing a diagram can help you to decide which operations to use when you're given a worded question.
In a carriage on a train, there are 47 seats.
The train has nine carriages.
How many seats does the train have altogether? Let's draw a diagram to represent this.
We've got nine carriages, each with 47 seats.
Could we use addition to work out this problem? We could.
But multiplication will be easier.
We're going to calculate 47 multiplied by nine, as there are 47 seats on each of the nine carriages.
So we have got nine lots of 47.
This gives an answer of 423.
On another train, there are 530 seats all together.
The train has 10 carriages.
How many seats are there in each carriage? There are 530 seats all together.
This is split across 10 carriages.
To calculate the number of seats in each carriage, we're going to divide 530 by 10.
This gives an answer of 53 Here are some questions for you to try.
Pause the video to complete your task and resume once you're finished.
Here are the answers.
For question one, you need to find the sum of 382 and 65.
In question two, you need to calculate 500 subtract 330 Here are some questions for you to try.
Pause the video to complete your task and resume once you're finished.
Here are the answers.
In question three, you need to add together 15 and 25 and then subtract this from 95.
In question four, you need to multiply six by 12 pence then take this away from two pounds.
And in question five, you need to calculate 98 multiplied by three.
Here are some questions for you to try.
Pause the video to complete your task and resume once you're finished.
Here are the answers.
In question six, you need to work out 128 divided by six.
In question seven, you need to multiply 14 by eight.
And in question eight, you need to multiply 3 by one pound 27 and then subtract this from five.
Here are some questions for you to try.
Pause the video to complete your task and resume once you're finished.
Here are the answers.
In question nine you need to multiply seven by 32 and subtract this from 632 pounds.
And in question 10, you need to multiply six by 188 and subtract this from 1400 pounds.
That's all for this lesson.
Thanks for watching.
