Hello students and welcome to your learning today.

Once again, it's me Mr. Latif And today in our learning, we'll be looking at the first of the two Ids, known as Id ul-Fitr.

So a really interesting and important time in the life of a Muslim.

A time of celebration, and a time which really reflects the month of Ramadan.

So today we will be understanding what occurs on Id ul-Fitr and also how Muslims celebrate this event.

Now as always please ensure that you have the following five things for your learning today.

Your exercise book, or some lined paper, a black or blue pen, a different colour pen for any corrections, those attentive ears and that curious brain.

Now once you have those five things, let's get into our learning for today.

So as I mentioned just previously, your title for today is Id ul-Fitr.

And today we'll be understanding what occurs on this festival.

Very important day in the Islamic calendar for Muslims around the world.

And to also understand how Muslims celebrate this events.

So before we get into our learning today, just a reminder of the five things that you need.

If you need to get them, this is a great opportunity for you to pause the video.

If not, let's get into our learning for today.

Now let's look at Id ul-Fitr.

So what is Id ul-Fitr? Id ul-Fitr is the celebration of an Id, which is celebrated at the end of Ramadan.

And the festival is held on the first day of the following month after Ramadan, known as Shawwal.

Now a key way I will teach this and I explain to students how to remember the two Ids is Fitr, R at the end, R for Ramadan.

So it's at the end of Ramadan.

So the key thing with the Id ul-Fitr is it's the celebration that follows the challenging yet spiritual month of Sawm.

So remember muslims spend the month of Ramadan practising Sawm, which is one of the five pillars, it's that act of abstaining from food and drink and bad habits during sunlight hours.

And it's an act of worship as well.

So this is a festival and a celebration for the success that they've had at the end of that month.

So it's not in the month of Ramadan itself it's on the first day of the month of Shawwal, which is the month after Ramadan.

Which is the 10th month in the Islamic calendar.

So Id ul-Fitr is the reward after a very busy month of Sawm.

And how is it declared? It's a sighting of the new moon.

And this declares the month of Ramadan has come to an end and the month of Shawwal has started, which signifies a time of the Id.

So today we're going to be looking at, in a moment, how Id is celebrated.

Now, before we look at how Id is celebrated, just a small task I'd like for you to do.

I'd like for you to spend five minutes to answer this question: When is Id ul-Fitr celebrated? So for this task I've got some key terms there at the bottom as part of the word bank.

How did we do? Now let's look at our answer together.

So Id ul-Fitr is celebrated at the start of the new month, Shawwal, which is the month that follows Ramadan.

Remember Ramadan is the 9th month, while Shawwal is the 10th month.

The new moon signifies the start of a new month, And the first day of Shawwal is the Id.

It is a special and important day of festival.

And it is a day of celebration for many, if not all Muslims around the world.

So the Id itself within a country like the UK, many Muslims may ask their employer to take a day off, whether that's paid or unpaid.

And within Muslim countries, it is a public holiday.

So how is the Id ul-Fitr celebrated? Well, key thing here is an act of Sunnah.

And what that means is 'cause it was celebrated by Prophet Muhammad, all muslims are obliged to do so as well.

So the Prophet Muhammad celebrated the Id during his lifetime, and Muslims remember he was someone who performed the Sawm as well.

Now on this day it's actually forbidden to fast.

And the reason for that is 'cause Allah has commanded that you cannot fast on this day.

This is a day of celebration.

It is not a day to abstain from food and drink.

Before the Id, Muslims should pay the Sadaqat ul-Fitr.

Now this is a form of charity, and this links to establishing new habits for the new month ahead.

Muslims up and down the country or around the world should remember to remember the poor actually.

And they should purify any errors that they may have.

So, although it's a celebration for many who may have luxuries in their life.

For many Muslims who are poor, they may not be able to do so.

So the Sadaqat ul-Fitr is money that's given to the poor, which allows them to celebrate the Id as well, regardless of where they are around the world.

Now once the Sadaqat ul-Fitr is given, Muslims then perform the Id Salah in the Mosque.

Now remember Salah which means prayer is a special prayer for the Id.

Now before they prepare for the Id prayer, they wear their best clothes, they wear their best perfumes and they wash themselves in the morning.

It's Sunnah to walk from the mosque if you're able to do so.

And a sermon is said by the Imam after the Salah prayer.

So the Salah prayer is a very short prayer and afterwards the sermon may consist of many reminders.

The reminders by the Imam may be actually to remind them that actually they may not see the next Ramadan, that life is temporary.

So for them to ensure that for the following months ahead, that they should do good actions.

The Imam may do a sermon on remembering the poor and actually how it's significant in Islam to give the rice to the poor, give the rice to the orphans, and to visit the sick.

Now after the Salah, the Id Salah, many Muslims greet each other with a Id Mubarak, and this is the same.

So for example, in Christianity, where here, the statement Merry Christmas.

For Muslims to celebrate the Id the greeting is Id Mubarak.

As this greeting is said, Muslims may choose to hug each other, to kiss each other, friends or family, and also the eating of the dates.

So it's putting something sweet in your mouth afterwards.

Now the fun part of Id.

We can never go wrong with gifts, right? So Id is also celebrated with the giving of gifts.

So many would give gifts or cash to their friends and to their families and to their siblings.

And also they'll spend the day visiting friends and family.

So they'll go to visit their friends and families.

Maybe sometimes they may go and eat a meal there, or they may go over the course of the three days.

And there's a special feast in the evening.

And many people in the household will spend the night before, staying up late, cooking all the favourite things for their family, to ensure that there's loads of blessings in the feasts that they'll open up in the evening.

And also a key thing with the Id is actually celebrated in another way.

Muslims are reminded to remain steadfast in the days ahead.

And what this means is, you haven't worked so hard during Ramadan and you're like, "Oh, that was really hard.

I've done and dusted that, I want to go back to my old self, my old habits".

No.

The way you celebrate Id as well, is to remind Muslims to ensure that they're doing good actions consistently for the rest of their life.

So this is a key link there with the Ramadan.

With the Id ul-Fitr being celebrated at the end of the month of Ramadan, Muslims are reminded of all the good actions that they did, and the blessings received in the festival of Id should continue on for the rest of their life as well.

So the answer that you should have had, you should have had: Id ul-Fitr is celebrated my Muslims around the world.

Id ul-Fitr is celebrated with the paying of Sadaqat ul-Fitr before Muslims perform the Id Salah.

The Id prayer is done at the mosque and afterwards there is a sermon said by the Imam, which gives them daily reminders of actions and deeds that they should do.

On Id Muslims will wear new clothes and perfume and wash themselves before the prayer.

In the evening many will spend time with their family participating in receiving and giving gifts, and there is a feast at the end as well.

So if there's any corrections that you need to make I would advise for you just to rewind the video, to hear my answer again, if not let's continue.

So why is Id ul-Fitr important? Well it's actually a day of reflection.

It actually reminds Muslims to reflect on Allah and that Allah should be a focus of everything in their life.

Id ul-Fitr is a really important time for all to, for them to reflect that actually time is precious and it should not be wasted.

Remember, they've really utilised, hopefully, each day in the month of Ramadan.

They've realised that time is precious.

They've realised the amount of good deeds they can do during the sunlight hours and also when the sun sets as well.

So there's focus on time being precious.

Reminds Muslims not to be wasteful, not to be lazy.

Id ul-Fitr is also important 'cause it ensures, and it reminds them to act in a modest way and to act in a moral way.

And with Sadaqat ul-Fitr it reminds them that wealth is a gift.

Wealth is a gift from God and you should gift it to the poor and the needy.

So although they're celebrating and they may celebrate in a very luxury way compared to others, that they should ensure that the rice are given to the poor and the poor can celebrate and have a feast and some food on this day.

Now after Id ul-Fitr many Muslims may choose to do the Six fasts of Shawwal.

So Shawwal being the month after Id.

And it's equated that the fasting for six days in Shawwal equates to actually fasting forever.

Now what's really important and really interesting about the term Shawwal as a month, it actually means to "lift and carry".

So what an interesting name for a month after the month Ramadan.

To lift and carry.

So this idea that you lift and carry all the good deeds that you did in Ramadan into the next month and continued on in your life.

So this is a good reminder for Muslims, all the good actions that they did is to lift and carry them into the following months as well.

And that reminder that I said, that I've mentioned, Id ul-Fitr, the way you remember it is there's a R at the end, and it is the end of Ramadan.

So now what I'd like for you to do is the following.

I would like for you to make a storyboard.

And I would like for you to make a storyboard that shows all the actions and events that occur on Id ul-Fitr from the start of the day to the end.

And for this task you have 20 minutes.

Remember there's a sermon and reminders for Muslims on how to continue their good actions by the Imam.

The prayer is done at home, true or false? And it is false.

But this year, if you're watching this in 2020, the Id prayer was done at home in many countries due to the pandemic, as places of worship were closed.

But generally when it's not a global pandemic, the Id prayer is done at the mosque.

Of course gifts are given to each other on Id ul-Fitr by friends and family.

Id Mubarak is a greeting said on this day, true or false? And the answer is true.

This is the greeting that Muslims say to each other on Id.

It is as a public holiday in Muslim countries, in non Muslim countries a Muslim may ask their employer for a day off whether that's paid or unpaid.

There are five Id celebrations, true or false? And it is false.

There are only two Id celebrations during the course of the Islamic calendar.

So in summary, today we've learned one of the Ids, which is Id ul-Fitr, and this is at the end of Ramadan and it is on the first day of Shawwal.

And this of the two Ids take place in the Islamic calendar, and it's a celebration and a festival to mark the end of Ramadan.

Id Salah is prayed on this day, and Sadaqat ul-Fitr is given on this day.

And it's a day of homes being decorated, exchanging of gifts, a family meal, and ensuring that they're seeing their friends and family as well, and telling each other Id Mubarak.

So a lovely day for the Muslims in the Islamic calendar.
